Goodbye Genghis. May you find peace in the external embrace of Tengri.

JoR

Very sorry about Genghis. No joke though when I read "we say goodbye to" in the email notification I was thinking the absolute worst... Lmao

Jimothy Realname

I am willing to contribute to a crowdfund for a gigantic stainless steel statue of Genghis. Rest in peace, kitty.

Nick

Sorry to hear about Genghis Mark. Given that this show highlights the darkest and most cynical things humans beings do to one another, petting a cat seems like a nice respite from that. You gave him a great life.

The bloodlust on Reddit to start world war 3 and annihilate Russia and support Israel made entirely by the admins and mods who toe the nato and Atlantic council line is fucking appalling since it’s one of only 4 websites left. The propagandists, useful idiots, edgy teens, nafo aligned psychos, and basically liberals want a direct war with Russia so much it’s disturbing. The funny thing is how most of these people probably shat on millennial dispensationalists during the bush admin but want their boomer/Xer eschaton so much in a way that makes the most batshit believers of the Left Behind books look like peaceniks.

RIP Genghis. Prayers for Katherine's brother. You know, I'm a relatively new father. My son is just past 18 months now, and people really, I think, undersell just how much more devastatingly tangible and near the concepts of death and mortality become after 18 months of the most wonderful experience you can have. One of the crueler ways the ebb and flow of existence manifests itself. Stuff like this really gets me now. But it's like having a good cry, or a healthy exercise wherein confronting it for a short spell loosens the dopamine flow just a little bit when your done. Helps with perspective.

Ander Pierce

Very cute cat 🥰. Looks a lot like my JoJo (Jotaro Jostar).

Damn yall I thought John rested in peace

Blorst of times

I’m sorry to hear about Genghis. Always enjoyed seeing pictures of him. Rest in peace.

Dorst Savijeski

Same with the idf/war cabinet. They decided 7-8 months ago how to punish "Ghamas" for getting over their ai turret enhanced wall and other defences. 120 hostages still not located. I don't think leveling Gaza anymore will get them out. Shorter: obviously no rapport regarding what happening, and what the goal is for this "ethnic cleansing", only that it got decided a long time ago. Edit: comment on Biden running this and the total f lack of being honest about what's happening "strategically"

RIP Genghis, if you meet a cat named Nergal in the afterlife, tell him I said hello.

RIP Genghis. The older I get the more I tend to push aside more and more my dismissive type of atheism and embrace a hippy Matt Christman type spiritualism and belief in a Brahman or “God” made up of all things, including all who live and all who have lived and to which were all reunited with when we die. No punishment, no reward. Only Nirvana.

I'm always amazed at the incredible hubris of the elites in the US empire but the democrats really stand out for their sanity defying hubris in a system already out of touch with reality. I think so many of their disastrous decisions stem from this as they're so high on their own supply they've completely lost tether with reality, and in such a way they literally can't find their way back, or even realize they need to.

Joshua Garcia

I’m sorry for your loss. My 17 year old cat means a lot to me. He’s still here!

JoR

Good point on reddit. World news is completely indistinguishable from any YouTube or yahoo comment section. But I'm not sure if it's just "the mods". I think it encompasses a very vocal section of Americans and westerns, basically the "silent majority" of centrists and even left leaning folks. Granted maybe not an actual majority but you get the point. As John rightfully points out, most people genuinely do want to participate in a sanctioned "2 minute hate", and for them, that involves saying anything about Russia and the Palestinians.

Mark Ames

Well said. I had a very similar transformation after our first born, especially with the scares we had in his first few years. Endless low-grade terror & a strange emotional fragility I hadn't known before.

Mark Ames

or Hendrix doing the Star Spangled Banner

Mark Ames

turns out you're not the only one. If one of us dies, you can be sure our names will make it into the episode title

NYCM&AHole

I mean he is setting Biden on fire in a figurative sense, though at this point I’d hope if Bibi did that to Biden literally I would hope Biden would reinstate a maximum bearhug policy

NYCM&AHole

Or maybe Bibi just hates Biden because Biden is from Scranton and Bibi is from Philly

Mark Ames

They can live longer too. Genghis was as spry as ever at age 15-1/2 before the cancer hit, actually up to his 16th bday. Could've lived another 5 years easy if cancer hadn't drawn his number.

konradingus

Young Joe Biden reminds me of Frederick Chilton from Silence of the Lambs

With the talk about Iran …. This interview is interesting…. First half is about how Anglo American intelligence infiltrated a Iran political movement trying to overthrow current regime…. And the infiltration was not to help.. time stamps in the Show notes…. The rest of the interview is more esoteric so on one’s own discretion but all very fascinating.

Joshua Garcia

Age is only a number. A younger cat I had, had to be put down due to kidney issues. I thought he’d outlast the older one. We treasure our moments together.

T

Your cat has given your son a great gift. Learning to process the grief of loss is an important lesson, and to learn it so young will help him later in life.

Evan

Beautiful opening, Mark. Your story about the conure riding Shuba like a sandworm made me smile.

a clash of purple

I almost said 'RIP Genghis,' but then I thought his namesake Temujin probably wouldn't want a peaceful afterlife... Though maybe Genghis the cat was more easygoing. So I'll just say RIP Genghis, unless you would rather Rest In War, in which case RIW Genghis.

Bodie Tack

Sorry for your loss Mark. We lost our long hair cat Moe to cancer a few months ago. He was a great hunter who loved being outside as well. We also struggled to know when it was time to say goodbye because he would perk up and become his old self again whenever he was outside. With untreatable and late stage cancer its never "too soon", so don't doubt that you made the right decision. We humans truly don't deserve our pets, we can only be grateful for the time we get to share with them.

Jason Thompson

I’m too chicken to read it myself, but apparently there is this infamously bleak philosophy book about death called “The Denial of Death” written by this psychologist in the 1970s who was dying of cancer. It was an influence on Thomas Ligotti, the not-dead-yet horror writer who in his book “The Conspiracy Against the Human Race” (spoiler: it’s us conspiring against ourselves by convincing ourselves there’s an afterlife) apparently took a lot of the same ideas and did it in his usual flowery prose-poem nihilist style. RA Lafferty’s short story “Fog in my Throat”, which I have read and which freaked me the hell out, goes to the same place in much fewer pages. Uhh… some light reading, I guess?

Isaac Suárez

Great episode! To your point about the non-reporting on the Lancet Study- after a quick google news search about the Lancet study, this horrendous piece from “The Forward” is one of the first results. This piece was written by a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. “The political contest being waged over the number of civilian deaths in Gaza is making it harder, not easier, for us to actually understand just how many civilians have been harmed through the past nine months of war, and in what ways. Those who study civilian casualty counts, as I do, understand that they are one of the many metrics needed to understand the true human cost of a conflict. They cannot present the full picture on their own. By emphasizing political objectives over scholarly ones — say, trying to prove that Israel is committing a genocide — the combatants in this war of words are impeding the process that typically produces reasonable estimates of civilian harm. Often, the discrepancies between the outcomes of those processes and initial estimates are glaring. It was originally estimated that about 200,000 people were killed during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War. Three decades later, the officially accepted number is less than half that amount. The fatalities associated with the Congo wars were initially estimated at 5.4 million by a humanitarian NGO. However, an academic review found that a rigorous study would have only tallied half that number of deaths. In the latter case, the academics ultimately concluded that the numbers were inflated for fundraising purposes.” It goes on, never getting any better but those first three paragraphs are an astonishing display of subtle genocide denial. RIP Genghis. Keep up the good work. https://forward.com/opinion/631386/the-lancet-gaza-casualties-israel-war/

I remember the first time I realized I could die (though on another level of course I still don’t realize it). I was 7 or so watching a Godzilla movie on TV and thought “hey! What if *I* were one of the people in those collapsing buildings??!!”

Jack Ross

Today I learned that we’re going to have to put my girlfriend’s cat down, what a day for RWN to release this ep. It really helps my head state a lot listening to your experience and is very comforting. Thanks Mark.

Mary Jordan

I’m sorry about Genghis, but I’m glad he had a full life. I listened to this episode and about 30 minutes later found out that a friend died suddenly today. He went to the gym, came home, took a nap and didn’t wake up. He was in his early 60s. It’s always shocking and terrible.

CR

Reddit’s head of policy is an Atlantic Council spook

CR

2020s U.S. being like 1990s Russia is not complete with our own Yeltsin at the wheel. It makes me wonder what’s going to happen in November given what we did to keep him in office. Or who our Putin will be.

Yairo Martis

LMAO. NATO is literally selling Ukraine a "bridge". Bleak.

Schaeffer Mallory

Rest in peace Genghis. I think a lot about how the finality of death means the life you live is very real, in that it begins and ends at fixed points. Anything eternal, could it even exist, would impossible to define concretely. Anyway the point being that to die is to have lived, and living seems sort of like a miracle to begin with - and it sounds like Genghis really got to live, especially out there in the woods.

You don't see a Parkinsons specialist seven times if you don't have Parkinsons.

"The species is inconsolable" another great Dolan line

nicholson nodding all the way through the schopenhauer section :) the whole story about the poodles is that he used to get another one right after the last one died and always gave them the same name, "atman" - the soul, while cursing them "human" when they did something wrong. it was his way of remembering that the same being looks out at the world from all the different eyes ... apparently he also taught his dogs to go grocery shopping for him with a basket in their mouths, with money and a shopping list inside ... once his landlord kicked him out of the house because he didnt like dogs so schopenhauer moved to the identical building next door. so many good schopenhauer storys :)

Jordan Cohen

This guy is right wing a kook. Maybe what he is saying about Iran is accurate, but hard to take him seriously given his background.

Damnboooi

On the last topic of how stupid and un-Machiavellian the ruling class is: Susan Collins (senator from Maine) said she thought the Jan 6th attack at first was Iran. Like some episode of 24.

William

Zelensky going into the the nato meeting to sign the Join NATO papers, except he’s let into the virtual insanity room

GC

Great, difficult episode, this. A humble request: history of failed assassination attempts and the political sequelae thereof? I know there's Ep60, which I'll put on in the meantime. Yeesh.

JoR

A few weeks ago they mused about the lack of assassination attempts in recent years. RWN truly influences world events

GC

That giant fuzzy hat is suddenly on his head and no one knows where it came from

a clash of purple

Lack of assassination attempts? Howso? RWN has even had to do a couple emergency episodes because of recent assassinations: General Suleiman, Shinzo Abe, Prigozhin, Khashoggi, Navalny... Do you mean of American politicians, specifically?

JoR

Yeah I think they meant Americans specifically. And even most you mentioned were mostly state related assassinations. I think they were also referring to more "grassroots" assassinations

jkjkjkj

I'm so sorry to hear about Genghis passing Mark. Losing a pet is so hard :(. I hope you feel better with time

j

I can definitely see where he could be dismissed as a kook… the development of how intelligence asset worked him is pretty textbook…. That’s why I shared it here… delving int his epistemology and metaphysics is a discussion in and of itself…. At least also useful in seeing a possible psyop angle to the entire UFO stuff….. also seemingly relevant in current times.

Genghis is adorable rip

Mark Ames

added to my reading list, it's all your fault!

Mark Ames

Thank you. Sorry to hear about your girlfriend's cat.

Mark Ames

That's scary, I'm sorry you lost a friend!

Raphael Brieger

It's a very interesting read, and dealing with the topic in a more analytical way as is done in the book has a demystifying effect, which can make it easier to handle.

Jason Thompson

between the two books you mean “Denial of Death” I assume? I haven’t read either but I have read Ligotti’s short stories and assume the Ligotti book is done in his usual florid horror style, only it’s “philosophical horror”. Like he basically came out and said “this is what I actually believe and is the underlying belief behind most of my stories which involve demons or monsters to soften the idea”

Jack

lol
