T

Congrats on beating chapo and TA to the trump assassination drop. Old guys still got it.

Basil

GC

I am sure this will be essential listening as we descend into the stale hell ahead. Many thanks!

T

If trump had half a brain he’d recruit a few dozen loyal ex special forces operators and form his own praetorian guard.

Pat

Read Ames’s “Going Postal” for the first time a few months back and highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t

ploob

🤕🤕🤕

Antipaganda

He'll do that properly after he's elected.

CR

People were saying RFK Jr had a bunch of Mossad guys protecting him until today

j

Anyone see his roman salute as he walked off stage?

CR

It’s usurprising when we step back from it all to realize that the invulnerability of the secret service has all been security theater since 1981. Everything is theater. Once again, Baudrillard is right.

NYCM&AHole

Bring the Sumatran rat monkey to New Zealand and let it loose on Peter thiel’s property

CR

But the illusion is broken now.

OvO Hoot

The major fuck ups here appear to have been local PD. Obviously the secret service aren't invincible but they were not the weak link.

Antipaganda

Come on. The Secret Service can't rely on local yokels to protect the President. That's insane. If they did, that's a different sort of massive incompetence.

JoR

Regarding Mehlhorn's comments, it's definitely representative of the general centrist concensus on the assassination. I think the biggest reason the media is so depressed on the topic is that it basically made trump a shoe-in to win now, if he wasn't already. The assassination was like watching Gannon's second pick six in the SB. Yeah, you knew they were losing anyway but there was some hope, until this happened. Also, with Vance, the only thing I saw in the news for him was all the comments he previously had on Trump, one comparing him to Hitler. Another (unfortunately) smart move by Trump: pick a VP your people will hate, the old Nixon trick lol

blazed uncle

Here’s my guess: Guy’s a loner, goes to work in a nursing home, befriends someone who’s more genuinely kind to him than any non-family person ever has been, then that person starts a sentence with “somebody should do something about…”

Michael Branes

"election" reference at the end! nice one!

OvO Hoot

Yes, it's a different sort. They're victim to the same neoliberal rot as everything else. It's just one more core government function that's been offloaded onto local cops.

fw

The Task and Purpose guy rushed to get a whole video out analysing their response and the service's history, he includes a few choice quotes from mil personnel about the cops too, very much in a subtle aid to the buck passing john mentions - his analysis of the shooting has a lot of maps, diagrams of the lines of sight (he counts 18) etc

Michael S. Judge

There are way more guns in circulation, but luckily we use most of them to commit suicide, which is now a more common cause of death than car wrecks

David in Brooklyn

Antipaganda, the responsibilities are divided. A security perimeter is established and the Secret Service has direct responsibility for everything within it. The local and/or state police are responsible beyond it, and that's where the shooter was.

Jonathan Penn

A good episode that calls for some response.

Jonathan Penn

A) The U.S. has at least 400 million guns in circulation(best guess I could find quickly). Sooner or later one of them was going to be pointed at a president or presidential candidate; B) "Stochastic" and how that term is being used evokes the wonderful line from "Princess Bride, " " I do not think that word means what you think it means,"; and C) A low level civil war? Several years ago, after yet another mass shooting event, the NYT ran a story titled, "A Partial List of the Mass Shootings in the USA this Year." A partial listing! The US averages more than one mass shooting a day. We are already in a low level civil war. It is almost certainly going to get worse. To quote another line, "Fasten your seatbelts. It is going to be a bumpy night."

Joe S.

A civil war implies at least two sides. Whose side do these mass shooters think they're on?

Jonathan Penn

Joe S.- you are right, of course. Perhaps the two sides are those of us firing and those of us ducking?

RDB

Secret service has 2 jobs: monitoring facebook for drunk posters vaguely threatening politicians, and tracking down counterfeit bills. And they’re only good at either one of those half the time.

Ander Pierce

A lot (it's hard to say how many without deep review of sources like National Gun Violence Archive) of the mass shootings (defined as more than 3 injured or killed) in the US occur as the result of low-level gang violence and beef.

LPO Crane Jefferson

Love the calls for peace and nonviolence while they genocide the Palestinians.

CR

The episode still isn’t appearing on the rss feed yet

Anthony Schiappa

I'm of Appalachian origin and did my tour in the Ivy League. John is 100% right. Hillbilly Elegy is basically Vance doing the "white but claiming otherness" routine, indulging the elites in their most lurid ideas about the region to get an in. It's "A Million Little Pieces" redux.

Kawaii Leonard

What is the French term Mark kept using? something dix-ans

Boris Petrovchich

On Gaza Trump is as shitty as Biden’s cabal although Trump would probably have red lines - craven and corrupt had none…

Mark Ames

désolé, won't do it again

Mark Ames

thanks, fixed it

zeeee - Chillswitch Engage

Trueanon released an episode today that's not even about the assassination, straight up trolling us I reckon

Alec Rosekrans

“Sois-disant” meaning so called or self-styled

blazed uncle

As we love to say here in the states now: the only thing that can stop a good thought with a gun is lots of self-directed bad thoughts with a gun.

Michael S. Judge

Now see, I always been jussa simple Leesiana crawdad, half French Cajun, half mama-don't-know-what, so y'all can't jus be lumpin' me in with all them other white folk like we mixin' up a roux for Aunt Simone's gumbo ... but with that said, the United States has a moral responsibility to invade, subdue, and rebuild the nation of Iraq.

Boobs123

There are always second amendment people somewhere at Trump rallies, and I bet Secret Service have begun rolling their eyes after eight years of "hey, there's a guy with a rifle over there!"

Farah

what was that interview with a major Democrat donor where he talked about having already sunk a lot of money into the Biden camp, and wants to take the risk of a loss because he wants an ROI into his investment? if someone could link it that would be amazing!

Peter Z

Baron Harkonnen - brilliant

Doug Cartel

I havent seen anyone try to justify the totally useless strategic bombing campaigns by saying the french were just a tiny sliver of humanity but all right

Doug Cartel

Nursing homes are like a front seat to the destruction of our "civilization", you get to watch these nursing homes get bought and sold by equity firms every 6 months and the staff get cut and the food gets worse and you realize the entire economy works this way, just wall street firms squeezing money out of failing entities

Doug Cartel

Would the de-politicization of the american people have anything to do with the lack of political violence? I mean how many people both pro and anti socialism talk about it as if all it is is taxes and public utilities?

Jimmy B

(Annibale voice) ok

luls

I dont even think its de-politicization in the traditional sense, i think the increasing complexity and ubiquity of the capitalist system takes such a psychological toll on the average individual that they often lack the time/energy/will to martial any of their intellectual/organizational capital into direct resistance. Couple that with the consumer economy and the attention economy and you get people willingly/serruptiously diverted away from direct action. Plus historically you never see any real change/blossoming of revolutionary spirit until the breadlines start so i dont think its a surprise that most people choose to be hampered by the status quo instead of taking leaps of faith

Hans Anders

“People who don’t use their own name lack courage” - luls 🤣

tabbyswipe

The shooter also was googling bidens next speech. He just wanted to kill.

Backofhouse4

Is it useful to throw the Pelosi attack into this analysis?

Kevin Walsh

The Germans committed plenty of war crimes in Western Europe. I don't know why the idea that the RAF and USAAF might also have committed some crimes is so surprising. We know what they did, and we know that they went on to do worse in Korea.

Kevin Walsh

As a former wrestling fan, I know that the poster chapter:verse is John 3:16.

Jimothy Realname

I actually met Annibale in Italy. I greeted him respectfully: "Commendatori, bongiorno!" and he asked if I was from NATO and said that we cut their ski lift cable.

Farah

you bloody legend! thanks so much

William

Holy shit get a real life. No way I’m reading all this

Mark Ames

"luls" isn't even a subscriber, they joined a day earlier as "free" and we happened to open this show up to "free" followers. You don't get to post cowardly anonymous attacks on our guests here, especially if you're a skinflint. Violation of basic RWN guidelines.

JoR

I'm disappointed you didn't use the Exile method of editing his comment into something completely different lol

William

Thank you for your service

William

Tardy boys were early to the case?!?

William

This guy had no case for doing what he did. People have fucked politics, sure, but this is almost the opposite of your classic right wing strategy of tension attack. SS stupidity or malice; the result was the same, so not sure if it’s worth hashing it out. The only thing this did show is that NOBODY wants to die for this fucking turd. The police took no chances, the supporters of Trump took videos instead of any action- I think this finally puts to bed the whole “ciViL waR” argument. None of these boomers are going to spend a night in a foxhole unless it’s air conditioned

William

I’m sure

William

First time?

JoR

I kind of thought the opposite. Only going by the crowd behind Trump, it seemed like every single person was anxiously waiting to see how he was. Me? I'd be fleeing, but despite being in a crowd where a guy was shot and dying, everyone seemed to be still, confirming the fate of their only hope in life lol. Granted, I also think a civil war is beyond improbable

luls

Looool i had to look up skinflint and tbh im surprised that was the "I stuck up for courtney love"-old timey-tough-guy word u went with. I do appreciate the implication that my transgression might be looked upon more favorably if i had the greenbacks, overall B- retort

Brian Howden

The whole concept of political assassinations being curbed due to school shootings is an interesting intellectual exercise. But: A.) violence on school campuses is political, if indirect. Especially if public. B.) the high-profile killings of 60s-70s (JFK, MLK, etc) were State backed at the very least…not the public. They were not ppl acting alone “just killing for no reason”. C.) Since Reagan there’s no national politician that’s been in any way a threat to establishment interests…or even the APPEARANCE of US empire
