Recorded: November 21, 2024

For once, the timing-gods delivered two major events hours BEFORE we recorded: ICC's arrest warrant for Bibi Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant; and, following a series of escalatory policies by Biden in Ukraine, noted "bluffer" "coward" Vladimir Putin responded by detonating an IRBM missile on Dnipro.

You did it, you talked about the news

Jethro Mojave

Only acceptable use of AI man this episode cover has me actually crying of laughter

Matt Colston

John, if you ever get near Surrey, I live in the US in Bellingham. Let me know.

Alejandro Pepsi

I just got a Maine coon 2 weeks ago! He is 12 weeks and already close to the same size as my 6 yr old lynx point who is pretty small but still baby is so big!

Samson

I will find you and hug you

William

More like baby netting-ya-who, amirite folks

JoR

I know this is probably a minority take but I relish the "non-guests" episodes. I understand guests are extremely valuable, but sometimes we just need the classic dynamic of John and Mark only. Even if it's just once a month.

Philip Girvan

The old Nerder’s luck is finally beginning to turn.

drizzly_november

My sources say the death penalty is being considered for Bibi. I am pro-life and take no pleasure in reporting this.

Jessie Cherbak

I had a big fluffy boy several years ago, had to be at least part Maine Coon. Cuddle monster that one

NYCM&AHole

Honestly I’m so mad at the Dem leadership I hope Trump does lock them up and put them against the wall. And I hope he sends the dipshits in the press along with them.

Doug Cartel

Some are saying the ballistic missile attack was a reply to NATO announcing the deployment of IRBMs to germany in 2026, dont really know for sure.

Dark Belden

I was in Amsterdam the day after the racism riot and it was really surreal to see the locals seethe at the news. Every person I heard talk about it was so pissed about how it was being portrayed. I know that the media is full of shit but to see an event get distorted in real time was something else.

Martin Billheimer

The film, "And that's someone I love...' is The Long Goodbye.

NYCM&AHole

I prefer the long kiss goodnight which is totally 9/11 pilled and full of the best Sam Jackson one-liners you could ask for

NYCM&AHole

Honestly hate Biden so much I want him and the entire state dept and the ghoul speakers to die in a plane crash but not on impact. I them to survive impact but be injured and eaten alive by the wildlife. Or burned to death in the crash which they all deserve. Just thankful that I’ll be vaporized with nyc when the russkies hit. I’ve seen threads enough times to know that the living will envy the dead

Doug Cartel

Theres this thing I've been coming back to a lot which is looking at nazism through a christian lens- i.e. to them, the Original Sin of Judaism is statelessness because they are anathema to the Blut und Boden horseshit the nazis worship, and so shunting the diaspora into israel not only allows you to keep them in a manageable, very nuke-able strip of coastal land, it also absolves them of that original sin and makes them all Good Jews, the kind nazis can stand to shake hands with when asking them for weapons etc.

Jacob

Keep in mind all longer range ballistic missiles are hypersonic since they fly in a high arc into space and back town to earth.

MoldyTolge

The thumbnail image is making me hoot and holler, great emergency ep

The world's gerontocratic political class needs to be Logans Runned. It really seems like theyre all lost in 40 years ago.

Jeff Normal

How about a good rugby team ending?

JJ

Most of the foreigners willing to fight in Ukraine have gone to fight in Ukraine already. There is no manpower reserve to be tapped.

CR

Biden isn’t odd. He’s fucking EVIL. It’s that simple. Always has been. For at least 35 years to my personal recollection.

Allen M

I think VP is getting desperate for the win, and nothing has worked. Ames, you sound silly about the landmines when the entire place is already covered in them

NYCM&AHole

Too bad we had to start shit with China otherwise the pentagon could’ve tried their robodogs of death. They’re inexpensive enough that it’s not a disaster when law enforcement shoots one because they like to kill dogs

Jeremy

hearing mark say "it's the same fucking thing as vietnam" in relation to the media spin is really relieving to hear. anyone who's read "Kill everything that moves" by Nurse or "Operation phoenix" by douglas valentine will read these books and almost want to throw up with how similar it is

Jeremy

The erasure of ukranian success in the soviet union is disgusting.

zeeee - Chillswitch Engage

I think my cats have some siberian in them. They are so chill and personable, very cool with being picked up and stuff, very cuddly and affectionate. One is in my profile pic

I doubt things would be any different if younger people were in charge. The system is doing what it's designed to do. It can't do otherwise.

a clash of purple

It's no use hating the functionaries and handmaidens and enforcers of the empire. If what you're talking about happened and they all died, their replacements would carry out the exact same agenda. Working collectively, humanity built a diabolic machine over the course of the 20th century; it's programmed to render Earth unfit for human habitation before the end of the 21st century. You can call it capitalism, or nationalism; in fiction it's been personified in the form of, say, Saruman or Skynet. Almost everyone is a part of the machine, and it encompasses several different ideologies and every extant nation-state. I don't know how it can be stopped before it destroys the world through climate change and nuclear apocalypse. I certainly don't think that having younger or smarter or saner or nicer people working on its behalf would make any meaningful difference.

a clash of purple

The talk of Biden in the bunker made me think of the scene in Dead Zone when Greg Stillson (played by Martin Sheen) locks himself in at Camp David and launches nukes in order to "fulfill his destiny." "Mr. Vice President, Mr. Secretary, the missiles are flying. Hallelujah. Hallelujah."

NYCM&AHole

I understand the pointlessness of it; I just resent their smugness and condescenscion as they get us all killed in a nuclear exchange

jbwhat

40 years ago, there would be no pushback on any of this. It wouldn't be in the imagination of 90 percent of the population that Israel could be wrong or that Russia was anything but evil. The idea that people could openly refer to themselves as socialists, and be taken seriously just wouldn't happen. Most of these old leaders were functionaries back then. It's obvious that Biden is still lost in the cold war. Some things have changed. I don't know if "the system" would change course, but it is changing. I don't think Israel is going to survive this. Especially when they open Gaza and the real damage gets cameras. If Israel falls, and other people take over, things could change. Whether it's fundamental or aesthetic is another question. It just depends on who's in charge. We fundamentally changed under FDR, but that got hijacked by the Dulles types. Honestly, this all feels like we're looping back to the 20s. I don’t know if we have the intelligence or fortitude to make a huge change, though, anymore. We're pretty spoiled and lazy.

Podconsoomer

There’s Palestinians journalists filming the death & destruction inflicted on them every day. You don’t need to wait for “non-biased” western journalists to come for you to see how bad it is

Guy Bannister, PI

43:50 the movie is the long goodbye with elliott gould, maybe my favorite ever made

jbwhat

I know that. I'm just saying that when Israel can't control the narrative, anymore. I think that's coming. I picture something like South Africa. It hit a tipping point, probably due to media attention due to the boycotts, the Sun City stuff, all the films and songs. The narrative changed and they became a pariah state. It took a long time for your average South African supporter, or normie who doesn't pay attention to the news, to say it was fucked up.

JoR

51:00 mark. The saddest thing about the lack of negotiations on the Ukraine war is, from the beginning, NATO leaders aka the Ukranian elite circle-jerked (and I don't use this term lightly) themselves on the prospect of total victory. So much so, that when Ukraine had legitimate advantages, say, before the counteroffensive, that negotiations may have gone well from their perspective . Maybe that's too optimistic. But now they're in a position where they're gonna be screwed in negotiations. Even if the keep Kursk for long, will it matter? Brings me back to the Syrian war (full transparency this is not a perfect analogy but here I go): remember how often Russia made the SAA and the Syrians negotiation cease fires and other breaks? Even though it would piss off the SAA and maybe their Shia allies? Well, look at the results many years later. We don't even think about Syria because of how decisively the Syrians won. But when you think about the US and how we "advise" allies, that never comes into play. Ukraine? Fight till the last man, you'll win! Israel? Literally do WHATEVER you guys want, we'll back you. The British weren't this crude, at least for the most part. They seemed to also strategically hold their proxies in place for the most part. TLDR: if I'm a country looking for support for a war or crushing an internal rebellion, I really wouldn't trust the US. Depsite all the money and material they can give you, the US has too many conflicting interests in mind when it comes to these conflicts.

j

Would hope past guest Jack Murphy would listen to this… on a podcast recently he emphatically claimed Putin doesn’t have the Balls to escalate… I fear he echoes to many in the intelligencia or aspiring would be’s.

JoR

I am definitely curious on how accurate Mark's reflection on the intelligence/elites response to this escalation is. From what I can tell, a lot of people aren't "scared" at all and want more escalations lol

Red Herring McGuffin

given their frequent use of the hannibal doctrine, propping up isis, and brinkmanship with iran you don't have to say israel is the greatest threat to diaspora jews, you can just say jews

Tom Warner

i imagine this was not the intention but ngl you made the new education secretary sound totally cool

NYCM&AHole

Yeah but you gotta make it mumblecore and an old man trying to make a clever remark - like “now we’re solving our electoral differences with the battlebox”

j

That’s what I fear,, that they are so high off their own propaganda that they don’t comprehend reality, which would explain how it has as of date. The alternative isn’t better, they want escalation at any price. An independent geopolitical analyst I follow names Tom Luongo has an interesting theory. He thinks that Europe and especially England over over debt and Ukraine or plundering Ukraine was the solution… now the time to pay up is here and forfeiture seems unavoidable, unless things change drastically… hence escalating,,, otherwise pound and euro dump..

Gary Wall

Lollipop Farms Mentioned 🥳🥳🥳🥳

fw

the settlement is for sure being attempted - they smuggled a settler into gaza to survey the land that was recently caught out. But will they succeed? people in the north of gaza are facing exterminatory violence on mass scale but not 'cleansed' or empty at all. infantry keep leaving horizontally to the point of exhaustion and air-only doctrine doesn't win anything, something israel has already tried and failed at too

etienne

it's adorable how you guys still think the majority of people are anti-war and being goaded into it or being overruled, since the last few years I'm fairly convinced that the vast majority of people are RABIDLY wishing for illegal offensive war and completely unable to envision any peace or de-escalation process until they're being CONTINUALLY reminded of how war is bad for specifically themselves and the people they know.

JoR

You're completely misinterpreting their point, or at least Mark's. The American public isn't necessarily anti war. But they're anti "wars we fight". There's a general anti-interventionist mindset that is relatively prevelant with conservatives. Do they want to "turn Iran to glass"? Yes. But they don't want whatever the hell the Democrat elites want: infinite amount of money sent to Ukraine, long occupations with no goals or strategy. Trump campaigns on what his people want. In general, they want to support Israel, but they also want this "shit" to end. They certainly don't like the Ukraine adventure, despite the fact that the Ukraine war has NOT " bad for specifically themselves and the people they know."

etienne

people really fucking love war is what I was saying

julio

the point about the unmooring of US opinion and moral standards and the election stuff... very worth writing a standalone piece on

JoR

Yeah I can agree on that. But they also sick of our new brand of wars lol.

Gary Wall

My thoughts on Ukraine is that, I think Biden is attempting to give Trump his own Afghanistan.

Doug Cartel

Remembering the time Anne Applebaum insinuated that the only reason Soviets hated the Nazis was because of Stalin's propaganda and then when they actually entered germany they broke down crying the first time they saw a piece of bread

JoR

I don't necessarily disagree, but even if we truly "lose" in Ukraine with anyone care? It's not like Afghanistan when we had a humiliating withdraw of actual US soldiers.

j

👏👏👏

a clash of purple

Americans don't have many consistent or intelligible beliefs about anything.

Ben H

Yes, a great cat movie too (thinking of all the cat talk up top)

Shawn van Leeuwen

A note on the so-called 'non-persistant' anti-personnel landmines that Genocide Joe has authorized for Ukraine. From Alex Jordan at Responsible Statecraft: "But as arms experts at the Friends Committee on National Legislation have pointed out, drawing a distinction between persistent and non-persistent landmines is “dangerously misleading” because of the well-documented failures of the self-destruct and self-deactivation features that supposedly make these weapons “safer” for the civilians who stumble across them years after a war has ended. In fact, the “smart mines” the U.S. deployed in the Gulf War failed at a rate 150 times higher than the Department of Defense claimed." https://responsiblestatecraft.org/urkraine-landmines/
