Guest: William Hogeland, historian & author

A special July 4th episode, the War Nerd recovers the lost history of how the Declaration of Independence came about with  historian William Hogeland (guest on RWN EP #63 and RWN EP #85), author of Declaration: The Nine Tumultuous Weeks When America Became Independent. In this telling, the American War for Independence is partly a typical insurgency, but unique in that the British were unusually soft on the colonists . . . We learn about the armed, populist working-class  coup in Pennsylvania that made the Declaration of Independence possible, and their unusual alliance with the scary elitist Adams brothers . . .

Afterwards, Ames & the Nerd discuss the Iraqi victory in Mosul, Seymour Hersh's new article on the alleged sarin attack in Syria, and Al Shabaab's split. . .

Total Time: 2:24:40

Buy William Hogeland's fantastic new book "Autumn of the Black Snake: The Creation of the U.S. Army and the Invasion That Opened The West" along with his history of July 4, "Declaration".

Hogeland was a Radio War Nerd guest on RWN 85 on the creation of the US Army and the forgotten US-Indian wars of the early 1790s. Hogeland was also our guest on RWN 63 on the Whiskey Rebellion & the things they don't teach you about America's Founding Fathers...

First of all it's always a pleasure to listen to William Hogeland.

Second I would like to recommend to get Dr. Daniele Ganser on the show for Nato Stay Behind Armies or Gladio as they were named in Italy.

Karl Knight

Play Neu's Hallogallo during your musical interlude sometime. That's a good track.

Woah... so the Americans weren't asserting their "civil" rights but the special privileges due to Englishmen as opposed to colonized subjects. Wowwwww

Fire, Fury and Drones

Seconded! I learned about the gladio program reading a book on the Turkish deep state by danish/Kurdish journalist Pola Rojan. It played a big role in the troubles and coups in Turkey in the 70's and 80's. That is a theme that is worthy of an episode as well.
