Hey! I’m so excited to listen to this. Can you please get the button added back to your Patreon page that allows me to add this podcast to a podcast aggregator? Every other podcast I subscribe to through Patreon has one, and this one did until very recently

Christopher Small

Regarding the Iranian state’s willingness to show the dead on television: i think they just figured the framing had changed. The efforts to co-opt the protests were so overt this time around that at some point a row of dead protesters stopped being “victims of a brutal state crackdown” and started being “collateral damage of an attack on the country.” And if that was the case, broadcasting the chaos and death was a win-win for convincing the Iranian mainstream that maybe this wasn’t their cause, and wasn’t worth the risk

Cathode Ray Dude

Hope the people succeed regardless of foreign interference. Fuck theocracies.

Ghordo

The fact that that carved up map has "Arabistan" as two noncontiguous territories that would just so happen to inherit a big petrochemical plant (western blob) and Iran's shipyards in and around Bandar Abbas on the Strait of Hormuz (eastern blob) is one of the most telling bits on that map.

.

Western capital interference has never, ever worked out in regular people’s favor. Not calling you out specifically but I don’t know how many times this same playbook has been used and it has caused absolute fucking misery and genocidal levels of death and pain for people to condemn the interference first and foremost before anything else.

Scott

Hey how is everyone else listening to the War Nerd lately? Just on the Patreon app? I don’t see a link to add this to a podcast app anywhere

Any good sources for updates/summary of the Al-Nusra regime offensive against the SDF happening right now? It sounds like the Kurds are melting away but these mostly seem to have been Sunni-dominated areas that they took from ISIS and never had a chance of keeping once Sunni Hitler started to push.

Ian H

Just look at the current state of Rojava to see the fruit of even the most "well-intentioned" western interventionism. The only answer is Yanqui fuera de todo el mundo, Yanqui fuera siempre.

.

Just look at iraq, Syria, Libya. Any western leftist needs to first and foremost oppose western sanctions/intervention regardless if the government isnt what you want. Fuck off. Put that energy in changing your own fucked up country. End the western empire headed by the U.S. Let the people of other countries try to change the direction of their own country without interference. It’s that simple.

CR

Just thinking about Greenland. Why is NATO so mad? Last time I checked, Turkey still occupied Cyprus. And I’m sure that caused a far larger loss of life than a military takeover of Greenland will.

The Real Spiro Agnew

I have gotten 2 root canals in the past year, and neither of them were my fault 😢 so I empathize John. Stay strong! 💪

StingrayMD

The US pretty much told the SDF to withdraw from West of the Euphrates and the SAA just kinda walked in

William

Ahh. Mark’s only complaint is wintry conditions. John’s only ailment is a fucked up tooth. Nature is healing

Jeff Normal

Maybe I’m just getting really fuckin insane in my old age…but does Greenland (and Canada) need nukes? I probably just need a snack

CR

Is Patreon giving you all the business about the number of paying patrons vs. number of listeners, too?

James Whale

Im not a alarmist but im quite confident a micro civil war is going to emerge in usa in next 2 years. I have been following this forever and the signs are all pointing in that direction. Id love an episode going over potential scenarios. Im sure you two are thinking about them.

Google Hushabye Vally

Sorry but this is insanely naive. No country that's in the West's crosshairs will ever be able to have a revolution on its own terms. If these people 'win', it will get 100 times worse for Iranians. Nothing good came after the fall of the USSR, nothing good after the fall of Gadaffi, nothing good after the fall of Assad. It happens again and again. This is a geopolitical reality wheather you like it or not.

StingrayMD

Great episode as always!

jonnie

A fellow teeth grinder. At least i have a good jawline

Terry Dunk

Unless you mean continued episodes of random, stochastic violence like mass shootings or assassinations, not a chance.

JoR

Like Terry said above, I don’t see any type of organized conflict happening. Even on a small scale. We’re so depoliticized and both sides of the political spectrum are extremely individual centric/disorganized. I thought maybe Hispanics would possibly fight the deportations with force more. But if that isn’t happening, who the hell on the center/left is gonna fight ?

JoR

I feel like it’s pretty simple. No one in NATO owned Cyprus. Someone in NATO owns Greenland. If little ole Denmark gets its land taken, what’s gonna stop the USA from taking whatever valuable lands or assets UK/France has oversees? NATO is basically a mafia in a lotta way, it’s bad for business for the boss to steal from the capos so brazenly

Hana

And Iran, Venezuela, Mexico....

Hilary is Pant-suited Syphilis

Yeah a “civil war” where the right and the centre right align to crush migrants and labour maybe so not really a civil war just an intensification of the present.

James Whale

Thats more what I mean than a conventional civil war. Also a battle between states and federal with the potential suspension of the upcoming elections because of use of insurrection act.

Tristan

They gotta hand that map back in, you cannot go around naming a place Arabistan! Call it Elam or something if you wanna be crazy, but Arabistan?? Cmon man

Doug Cartel

America has spent a lot of assets these last ten years and so I think it's getting easier to scare trump with the specter of burning aircraft carriers sinking into the sea with all the blame on him Maybe

Lord-Admiral of the Pyrenees

I don’t think talking about the 1979 Iranian hostage rescue debacle is relevant. I wish the hosts were a bit more humbled given the recent string of US/Israeli victories exposing their opponents as bumbling losers. I can’t believe John would say something like “Iran is no Venezuela” at this late date. The last couple of years have shown all these countries are paper tigers.

Hilary is Pant-suited Syphilis

It’s amazing that we’re witnessing the results of an earlier regime change effort in Syria with the darlings of the pro-regime change “left” in the west (the type who would hurl Assadist as an insult), the YPG and Kurd civilians, now being forcibly pressed into the Sunni Islamist state or ethnically cleansed at the same time they cheerlead for what could only produce a similar result in Iran. Highlighting they’ve learned nothing and that they’ll continue being useful idiots on the side of western imperialism.

Steve Mathews

You say Iran's not Venezuela, but I remember when you were saying Venezuela was a fearsome opponent.

Boobs123

Same with Hezbollah, the Syrian Kurds, even Hamas. All of them were paper tigers.
