I very much hope this series keeps going for as long as possible. It's been eye-opening and an absolute delight.

Slatterys was cool and John should try singing Cookie Monster death metal instead of hippie music. I recommend all shall perish

Ted Wassanasong

I binged the series over the last few days, what an excellent end to the week

I greatly enjoyed the new Top Gun. I realized at some point, I think I'm pretty much over my insufferable lefty "whining about how reactionary media is reactionary" phase. It's very freeing to stop caring about all that and just take in the spectacle of airplanes zooming around and blowing each other up. That said, Hot Shots is clearly superior to both the first and second Top Guns.

Ooh! One of my favorite battles of the US civil war! And a question regarding the war in Ukraine: a complete shit show compared to what? If it is such a shit show how did the initial Russian offensive fail to take Kiev? Personally I expected very little from the Ukraine armed forces but what this year has showed that at least they done something right. That, or Russian were stopped by some grandpa with a hunting rifle. You tell me.

Yay, finally, the the single most pivotal battle that decided the fate of the whole Civil War!

@1:04:30 But couldn't the Confeds have taken Baltimore? ;-) And Baltimore developed specifically as a "Northeast seaboard" city, rather than as in origin as a Chesapeake tidewater-piedmont tobacco slavery town like Richmond, with a commercial orientation towards the Northwest (as in the B&O Railroad, (the first commercial RR) that offered that region the nearest access to the sea.

On Ukraine: The propaganda distortions in war reporting are amplified in part, beyond the expected military secrecy, by the fact that this is an "arms war" between the world's two leading arms manufacturers and exporters in the world: the US and Russia. Hence reportage must also function as marketing, where "one's own" weapons but always be spun as invincible wunderwaffen, the "other side" as junk. This is *capitalist* warfare between capitalist states, where one side would love to capture the world's arms markets of the other. This btw is perhaps one reason why both Russia and the US don't want to commit their current generation weapons, for fear that they might be exposed as inoperable beta junk. Poof goes that market!

I found a thin, paper-back copy of "Civil War Stories" by Ambrose Bierce for $1.50 last summer. Im binging the whole thing before the next episode

Mick Lynch was on UK television recently. They asked him about his political heroes, and without hesitation said "James Connolly." The presenter had no idea who he was, but let Mick give a quick synopsis of Connolly's life.

Movies were discussed on this episode. I agree with John/Gary about Die Hard. When I was a kid, I just liked the movie for the violence and for Rickman. I didn't dislike Willis' character, but I definitely did not like him.

**I have to remind myself that on Patreon Enter means submit your comment.***** There was talk of the new top gun movie. I'm pretty sure top gun back in the 80's and in the present day is used as a recruiting tool. I will admit that as a child I liked the original. That can be blamed on my very pro-US upbringing, and my own love of dogfights. The latter almost definitely born out of playing certain computer games growing up.

it's just your jealously due to your lack of garbage plates lmao

Is there any point that you all could push the civil war episodes into a separate podcast so we have a good civil war podcast on like iTunes or wherever that we don’t need to sift through the patreon feed for?
