The first plant monster for this month! I've already designed a generic carnivorous plant (Giant Fly Trap from Jungles of Huapaca), but I knew this compendium needed some sort of fly-trap-type plant anyway. Coming up with a name was fun too, because I was thinking, "We named our plants after real objects. So in a fantasy setting, what monsters could they name their plants after?"

I used a slightly different process for this art - alt linework and brush - and I think it looked better? I also paid a lil more attention to amby (occlusion), SSS and underlight and I hope I can carry that over to item art in the future.

Dragonsmouths grow in dense forests and damp caves, capable of survival without sunlight. This carnivorous plant is a type of man trap with large leafy jaws and a rough stalk armored by hardy thorn-like coverings. Its appearance remains a mystery to botanists, though folk tales tell of their cultivation by ancient dragons, its leaves selectively bred to resemble that of a dragon. Whether there is truth to such tales remains unknown.

Pungent Aroma. A dragonsmouth hunts by releasing an attractive scent designed to lure prey to its vicinity. This scent is different for every creature and always smells pleasant, ranging from sweet fruits, fragrant flowers, or even a warm ocean breeze. The flower, disguised as a colorful tropical plant, simply lays in wait for unsuspecting victims curious enough to approach, maw poised for a quick strike.
