[Botany] Monster - Petrikore (Patreon)

You know I really like rocks and I can NOT resist doing a rock tree. Petrified wood is essentially all mineral since mineral has replaced the water/cell content of said wood. They're beautiful.

Also the name is super fun and plant-themed (petrify / petrikore / petrichor). :D

A petrikore is an awakened petrified tree, though sometimes a treant that is petrified may also become a petrikore. Such a plant retains properties of both plant and construct thanks to the mineral content infiltrating its entire body. The leaves have long since fallen and withered, leaving behind only a stony trunk and roots. Rusted metal and brilliant crystal shine where its body has cracked open to reveal its mineral interior.

Petrikore lurk in petrified forests among the graves of other trees. They tend to be neutral, largely unaware of their current state, lashing out only when disturbed. Such petrikore attacks spawn for eerie stories about the graveyard of trees, especially for victims who fall to the petrikore’s fossilizing roots. Inexperienced adventurers often mistake the presence of a petrikore for a gorgon’s or medusa’s lair, but seasoned veterans can easily recognize physical marks left by grappling roots.
