monogatari second seanson, let him cook

Jaron Clark

From my perspective, Nekomonogatari Kuro is a story about the many different meanings of the word love, especially in relation to Araragi. This arc is Araragi learning the difference between them in a way. In my opinion Araragi loves Hanekawa platonically, but not romantically. The arc begins with him trying to figure out whether his feeling were romantic or not through the conversation with Tsuhiki. At this point in the story he's only seen the cheerful, perfect, righteous girl that she has shown him. He even has a conversation with her in Kizu on this very subject: "I just don't get it. I'm not sure I could go this far if I were in your place....But you can. That scares me. Creeps me out...I just don't get why you'd go so far for me...it's like you're a saint." In his eyes she was perfect, too perfect even. Especially for someone like him, because we've had plenty of hints about his self-loathing nature by this point. He was attracted to the idealized version of her, like the kind of romantic attraction you feel to someone you barely know but they seem so perfect from the outside. I'm sure most of us have been there... and oftentimes, those sorts of people end up not being actually worth pursuing. They are most often the people that are masking their true selves. By the time he had the showdown with Black Hanekawa, (who IS Hanekawa) idealized versoin of her is shattered. He is disillusioned by her hypocrisy and realizes by now her perfect student president persona is a facade, something she plays up to cover up her inner baggage. She is a kind girl, but she only lets that part of herself be known. She pretends that her true feelings don't exist. Oshino's argument was that her hiding this part of her is potentially what prevented her from forming real attachments with her family. That there was no "right" person in that scenario. Yes, her parents are most likely shitty people but we only hear HER perspective. The truth is, we don't know what led up to it. Did she egg it on because she wanted to have something to latch onto to say "see, aren't I so unfortunate? Wasn't I right?" Thats what Oshino was worried about. Hanekawa's fault lies in the fact that deep down she DID feel her life was unfair and wanted to take it out her frustrations of her misfortune on people. Normally this is would be a form of deeply buried "intrusive thought" for her that she represses by playing up the role of a perfect goody-two-shoes. Many of us have thoughts like this, but know better than to act on them and have the self-awareness to recognize that they are wrong. Sometimes though, we hit rock bottom and we let all that bottled-up stress loose at once. This is what Black Hanekawa represents. Her bottled up stress and feelings that she doesn't want to admit are unleashed and she tries to shift the blame onto the "oddity" (alternate personality) when it's her fault that she is trying to pretend that she doesn't have these problems. Her fault that she pretends to be a paragon of a "normal girl, perfect girl" and downplay her issues. More importantly for Araragi, she puts him on too high of a pedestal. Think about that from Araragi's perspective while keeping in mind how he thinks about himself.... It freaks him out, because as we've seen Araragi DOES NOT think he deserves anything like that. He doesn't understand his self worth, and the fact that Hanekawa treats him so highly scares him. He doesn't want or need someone that will suck up to him and ignore his flaws and gas him up. Now thinking about all of that, doesn't it make a lot more sense to why Senjougahara fits him so well? She has never held back in pointing out his flaws and putting him in his place. As for his sexual desire for Hanekawa... he definitely lusts after her of course, but that part of him harbors no actual romantic feelings (re:Tsukihi conversion of lust vs love.) The platonic part of him "loves" and cares for her deeply as a friend who has been through a lot with him, but he can't bring himself to "love" her romantically. I think he uses his attraction for her as an excuse at the end of this episode when talking to Oshino, to hide how much he cares for her and as a way to remind himself that reciprocating her feelings won't end up well for either of them. He does love Hanekawa, so much so that he would die for her. After all, there's no rule saying that platonic love can't be stronger than romantic love...

I aint reading all that. I'm happy for you though. Or sorry that happened.

Hold up this writing is fire???? Good essay man. I have to agree that if Araragi and Hanekawa ended up together, it would not end well for either of them. It's why I think that Senjougahara makes significantly more sense, especially as you get further into the series. Ppl who think Araragi should be with Hanekawa is just cope.

Ghastly Yōkai

I'm so hyped for Monogatari 2nd Season.

Thalassinos

That explains why senjogahara was so afraid of Hanekawa confessing to Araragi in Nise

Idk I come from a culture where it’s common to get slapped if you’re giving attitude to your parents or something like that. I can’t believe you can’t think of a way a parent is in the right to slap their highschool aged kid.

Since when is there a “white hanekawa?” I only remember “black hanekawa.”
