Light's end is so much more humiliating in the manga. He doesn't get to leave that room. Mikami denounces him as a false god because there's no way a real one would have lost and so he turns to begging Ryuuk for help who plays along at first before revealing it's Lights' name he's writing. He dies screaming and crying that he doesn't want to die. And honestly, deserved. Justice for Naomi!

I really hope you get to watch Fullmetal Alchemist as well, Brotherhood is up there with DN for me when it comes to favorite series. (the 03 anime is also very good but I would recommend Brotherhood if you've never been exposed to anything FMA)

In manga, ryuku told Light heaven and hell are not exist. The Heaven hell thing is just a little joke. But anime cut that out.

You don't learn this in the anime but there was another person who actually beat L who's name was beyond birthday. He was originally L's back up's back up but he basically went insane from the stress and ended up committing a string of murders that was impossible for L to solve. He was also born with shinigami eyes.
