Great reaction! Important things to remember about nobility: 1. They do not value life - not the way we do. 2. They do not see commoners as fellow humans. They see them more like animals - like cattle. Ferdinand killing Arno would be like putting a dog down because it bit your guest. Or like a farmer killing a cow because it got a disease and didn't want it to spread. One of the many reasons commoners are terrified of nobles is because a noble can kill a commoner for any reason with no repercussions - none at all

Ferdinand had Bridgette eat lunch for Rozemyne's sake. She does not know she was a commoner - none of the nobles do. She just thinks she is Karsted's daughter hidden in the temple (cathedral). Rozemyne must hide her commoner background from her. Damuel knows she's a commoner and knows her family. So Ferdinand was being kind to Rozemyne by sending Damuel in.

With Crunchyroll it seems that depending on exactly where you watched episode 2 it either had the updated OP or not. When I watched it on desktop last week they had updated the OP, but apparently it was still the old AI OP on mobile for example.

A little extra context for Bookworm since the anime skipped it and are not likely to go back and talk about it. Arno had a bad relationship with Fran because in the past they had the same master, Sister Margaret, the previous orphanage director. Sister Margaret had been abusing the young boys in the orphanage and Fran was one of her favorites. Arno had always been jealous of Fran kind of in a similar way to Delia thinking he could gain social status if he replaced him. When Sister Margaret's crimes were revealed she ended up committing suicide. Fran's obvious relief at finally being free of her, and not trying to help her/protect her angered Arno causing him to do everything he could to undermine Fran going forward. All through season 3 we can see Arno trying to sabotage Fran and make him look bad so he will get fired or worse. He was usually fairly subtle, although he always had a look on his face that told you he was up to no good. His worst offense is when he purposely lies to Fran about Ferdinand not being in the temple, and then doesn't go and tell Ferdinand what just happened. By omitting that information he put Myne at risk leading to her almost being kidnapped and taken by another duchies noble. Especially since she had been adopted by the archduke using the magical contract, Arno essentially had committed treason against the duchy by intentionally harming a member of the archducal family. It's kind of crazy to just throw in his execution as part of the end credits skit, but that basically means they aren't going to go into any more detail on Arno and Fran's past and why Arno did what he did. The thing with Bookworm is that it seems very wholesome and happy on the surface but it is A LOT darker than the anime portrays it. The anime generally shies away from the really dark stuff or off screens it, but we have already seen multiple executions, and the complete disregard for commoners lives is evident.

Worth noting that Damuel has a very important role now. Since Rozemyne as the Archduke's adopted daughter basically always needs guard knights with her the fact that Damuel already knows she's a commoner allows him to stand in as her guard in situations where she want to have closer interactions with her previous commoner connections.

To add on to a previous comment, Arno did everything he could to torture Fran. He suggested Fran to be Mynes attendant because he knew that Fran was afraid of female blue shrine maidens just like how Wilma is afraid of men. He also suggested giving Myne the orphanage directors chambers because that is where Fran was abused/assaulted by sister Margaret. This is why Fran was uncomfortable with the furniture at first and why he was also frustrated with being Mynes attendant on top of feeling abandoned by the high priest. This is also why he told Delia about the babies adoption as apposed to Fran or Gil. Because he knew Delia was a spy and it would cause the most harm to Myne and by proxy Fran. There was a lot more he did but it was always subtle.

Arno was Ferdinand's attendant, which means to understand his Lord's intentions and act accordingly. Even though Ferdinand said to not disturb him, Arno was supposed to notify Ferdinand of the emergency. But because he was hating on Fran, he let the shit happen. Plus more spoilery stuff in the background that got him sent to the distant skies.

When it comes to Damuel, it was basically either let him stay on and act as a guard knight in private because he knows Myne’s past or killing him to tie up loose ends so that the secret doesn’t get out. He’s the least skilled among all of her knights but he can do stuff for her that others can’t. Still, it’s pretty tough. It’s basically stay and get better or die. And Ferdinand is ruthless. You’ll see more of his diabolical smile as the series go on. Best character in the series. Regarding the temple, it’s basically a brothel for nobles, that’s why it has such a bad reputation and no one wants to go there. Brigitte has her own circumstances that made her willing to take on the job anyway.

Ferdinand not eating her snaks is some real anime bs. "masochist" bro... the anime might have skip so much of her struggles but the things she had to endure to get where she is now. but she had to adapt to survive all the pains of he constant overwork. _the Arno stuff__ The anime is wild for dropping the Arno side story like that. in the LN Ferdinand just said to Rosemyne: "I have distanced myself from him" later Fran says "I guess it was finally his time to climb the stairway" Its only so much later we get what that really ment. But Arno did alot of really not good stuff that the anime did not have the time to explain, it must have pissed Ferdinand off alot when especaly after it resulted in "mynes death" it sounds brutal but the more you undstand of the world the more sens Ferdinands dession here. Ferdinand dose not want anyone around him he cant trust, and betraying his trust is gona be the last thing you do.
