The temple used to be a kind of unofficial brothel for the nobles and that's also the place were the most lackluster nobles were sent. All kinds of shady deals were made. The religious stuff is kind of a spoiler for later on so won't say much about it, but basically, no one cares about religion or the gods anymore right now.

I don't think it's ever said outright but I'm pretty sure that Taue Fruit is simply an growth phase of Trombe. They absorb mana from their surroundings and once they have enough they morph into what we know as Trombe. The same thing as a flower bud and a flower in bloom, just more exreme and magical. As to where Taue Fruit comes from, it and fey plants in general are never fully explained. Maybe they're put there by the gods, maybe they just are what happens to plants in a magical land, we don't know.
