i would compare where we are in the story to the same place as Slime. The world building and character foundations are in place to a degree, and now we are getting to the good stuff.

Justus is actually kind of the most well-adjusted of Ferdinand's retainers if you can believe it. They're all a bunch of psychos (Ferdinand being number 1 ) and we love them for it. We've already seen the top boy student twice this season. Very briefly each time though. With this episode, people should now understand part of the reason commoners have 0 chances against the nobles. The archduke can kill any of them at any given moment by destroying their registration medals, regardless of where they are. This is literally like living with a sword hanging over your head.

The anime kinda underplayed how traumatized Rozemyne was. She was seeing their faces every time she closed her eyes. Dad giving her the cloak only helped a little. So no, she did not sleep well that night.

Overall I think they did a fantastic job adapting this episode. There was a great interaction between Rosemyne and the Mayor that wasn't shown though. The mayor makes a plea for his innocence and instead of going right to Ferdinand stepping in, she realizes that if she fails to make the case for him being responsible and the town stays loyal to him that they will all be wiped out. She traps him by using the orphans as an example saying that if one of the orphans attacked one of his children without knowing who they were if they would be deserving of punishment. He falls right into it saying of course ignorance is no excuse which she then turns right around on him saying ignorance is no excuse for attacking the monastery either. Then Ferdinand seals it by saying that the mayor did know better because he does regularly deal with nobles like he did in the anime. I think that little extra bit of Rosemyne actively trapping him using her words is a nice moment for her character growth and being more actively involved, but I'm very happy with how much they did show.

Richt had already been the Assistant Mayor, so he was the natural successor.
