Judging from the shell casing, I'm pretty sure Viktoriya picked up the rifle that Anson used to shoot Grantz, which is why it was strong enough to penetrate Anson's defenses and even go through him. The random soldier from EP1 survived and I don't know if that makes him super lucky or unlucky, given the horrible conditions soldiers faced. Tanya has learned history and knows what move the Republic is about to pull. Tanya's genuine crashout at failing to end the war is pretty heartbreaking.

The scene with Brest is inspired by Dunkerque in WW2. After managing to isolate a huge part of UK/France troops in Dunkerque, German Army command was forbidden to attack for 3 days by Hitler. There are multiple theories for why he did that from making UK his ally to he was afraid of the speed how the german army moved. End Result was a giant rescue action that brought the whole army back to UK. If they had attack UK would have lost majority of his land troops and would have most likely surrendered

the trench gun is an early shotgun from ww1. It was used by american forces when they entered the war. To my knowledge in the real world there was never any treaty banning their use. The germans however did argue they were inhumane weapons and constituted a war crime. In tanya's world we have no idea if there was a treaty banning them.
