(We don't really know tho) Simply killing Gluttony might indeed mean those memories are gone forever, can't risk it.

After the Patrache hint, I'm starting to think we've got this backwards. What if all of the current characters go back in time and THAT'S how the witch of envy stuff happens? Like if instead of Flugel becoming subaru, Subaru goes to the past and becomes Flugel. Likewise Emelia goes into the past and becomes Satella. It would explain quite a lot.
