Such a beautiful, special and personal album and even though the songs are so different they all feel so very much him. I'm not super familiar with his personality but I feel like I have gotten a good idea of him through listening to his songs. His lyrics are so beautiful and really resonate with me on many different levels and planes lol as you can hear from me rambling, trying to make sense of it 🫠

Listening to all the songs felt like a journey with ups and downs and the last song really tied everything together from what I had felt all along while listening to these songs. I'm really interested to hear him talk more about this album, let me know if that video I mentioned would be good for me to react to! And let me know all your thoughts in the comments~

🔵 HOPE YOU LIKE IT 💙 LOVE YOU ALL 🩵

YAY! to give you some context behind YUN: Namjoon named the song after the Korean painter Yun HyongKeun. The voice you hear in the beginning is actually Yun and it translates to "According to Plato's humanity, it's the human essence to seek truth, goodness, and beauty. It's the sincerity in truth, the moral goodness, and the beauty. But in my opinion, you have it all when you have the truth." Yun is actually the one who said that "you should firstly be a human before you do some art" which is obviously the meaning behind the song. The album cover actually has one of Yun's paintings in the background! Yun was known for fighting for the political freedom of South Korea through the Japanese occupation and constantly advocated for Korean independence which led to him being arrested and he was set to be executed. He was able to escape execusion but was captured by the North Korean army where he was forced to become part of their secret military. He was able to escape but then was imprisoned again by the South Korean government for suspected allyship with North Korea. Everything Namjoon does is so intentional and his brain is just INSANE

LMAO the "stain" he's referring to in Still Life is not that kind of stain HAHA that lyric "look at your chain" compared to "look at my stain" is him referring to people flexing their wealth which is something that is beneath him because while they're buying fancy things he's over here CHANGING THE INDUSTRY AND LEAVING HIS MARK ON THE KPOP AND MUSIC WORLD. so he means like a permanent stain that you can't get rid of, he has forever left his mark. BASICALLY it's kind of like he believes success should be measured in the things you create/your impact not by how wealthy you are or what superficial things you buy/own.

okay that's so smart lmao i ruin everything 🌝 i was really struggling to find the word INTENTIONAL as well while discribing his lyrics, like every line feels so intentional, substational and significant that theres so much to decipher from every verse. i also wanted to say but forgot that i totally agree with the human first, art second thing. and even after that the art somebody creates is always first and foremost for the artist themselves and everyone else second!!! ok i just needed to get that out thank you. thats my stain

Closer is THAT song! some faith lore LMAO but last year i was in a TERRIBLE situationship and at one point i would just listen to this song and CRY LMAOOOOOO because she was sooo real like "i can't get close enough to you, i feel it most in the nighttime even though that's when im closest to you" like how real is that?? like physically you couldn't get any closer but emotionally you'll never find that connection

continuing on with my "namjoon is a genius" change pt.2 is obviously a "part 2" because he has a song called "change" featuring Wale and that song is so positive and is essentially like "the world needs to change for the better" now he's out here with a COMPLETE different song that takes the idea of change and makes it sarcastic and pessimistic WHILE STILL BEING A TRUE EMBODIMENT OF THE WORD/CONCEPT OF CHANGE

you watching the music video while crying and also making objectifying comments--we love a man who can do it ALL

faith

no you summed it up BEAUTIFULLY!!!! you know it’s a good album when it allows for this kind of discourse!

forg_tful, closer, and no.2 are the b-sides that i routinely go to, outside of wildflower and still life, and i think a big part is that i love how joon's voice blends with female artists ✨ his voice is very versatile, like you mentioned, but his singing voice ??? i melt 💙 such a beautiful album with great lyrics, and such a beautiful era we got from namjoon 🫂 miss him so much
