Even though I'd watched the trailer I felt like I had no idea of what to expect before I started this and I'm so invested in the story now. I love the different subjects it tackles when it comes to finding yourself, accepting yourself, learning how to grow up and deal with different situations. It's dark and heavy but also light and healing. I doesn't feel like a typical BL however I love the queer representation so far and I'm really looking forward to how it continues.

I soon disovered why the show is called SOUL MATE. I love how different RYU and JOHAN (not me) are while still being able to relate to each other and their similar feelings despite their very different circumstances. I also love that the two first episodes took place in BERLIN! That's so cool. I can't wait to see what happens now that they will go back to KOREA and JAPAN respectively and how they will meet again.

I hope and think SUA and SUMIKO will stay in touch in BERLIN so maybe they will meet there again in the future? I hope it happens soon. I'm gonna go watch more episodes now, I just had to write this first. Anyway I hope you check it out and watch it with me, I highly recommend it (just as I recommend LOVE IN THE BIG CITY since they're not stereotypical BLs if that's not your jam). Let me know all your thoughts in the comments~ 💙

I just noticed something I want to comment on: in the beginning of ep 1 from the first scene of RYU in Berlin where he sees a dad yelling at his son for being gay and how the church hates him - that son is the one who starts the fire in the church, right?! I didn't think of that until just now because I'm rewatching ep 1 for myself lol I think there will be so many things I notice that I didn't the first time. That's why I said in one of these reactions that I think it's a show worth rewatching. ANYWAY

kay

"i'm just like you. that's why i was at the church, i was lying to myself. but, i'm not anymore." the way i'm loving this!!!

i think people can get really weird about bromance and bl shows. i understand the history behind why “bromance” as a label can feel uncomfortable or even dismissive, but sometimes the way it gets applied now feels just as strange. there are shows that aren’t even “implicitly” queer or marketed as bl, but the relationship between the characters is clearly written with emotional depth, chemistry, meaningful conversations, and sometimes even confessions, yet because there’s no kiss or physical contact, people reduce it to “just friendship” and accuse it of queerbaiting and that feels a bit absurd to me like, you’re watching the tension, the connection, the way they talk to each other, the way the story frames their bond, but since there’s no kiss, suddenly it’s nothing, they’re just friends; meanwhile, there are plenty of heterosexual shows where there’s little to no physical affection, and no one questions whether they’re “just friends”. it’s like saying stay with me or a shoulder to cry on aren’t bl just because there’s no kissing, even though the narrative is full of romantic and explicit emotional confessions; i know this is a much more complex conversation than this, and i’m sure there’s a lot of context and history behind why people feel strongly about it. honestly, i’m not even sure where i fully stand on the bromance debate myself, sometimes i agree with the criticism, sometimes i don’t. it really depends. at the end of the day i just like to enjoy shows and stories for what they are without overthinking them too much

THANK YOU I agree completely. They do get so weird about it. People have lost the meaning of queerbaiting if that's what they're calling shows like this. I got triggered by stupid comments on Twitter but in the end it just made me love this show so much more so it's okay. The fact that sexuality is basically never mentioned in this show is kind of refreshing in a way. Love is just love which I think is how it should be. The only reason queer people need to come out is because of everyone assuming they're straight so if we all just stupid assuming anything at all we can all just love who and how we want :))) anyway I really appreciate your perspective, thank you 💙

don't worry, taecyeon will be a problem for me as well..there's just something about tanned, natural skin tones that really get me🙂‍↕️ also, you mentioning how much you cried under almost every video is scaring me a lot because i cry at literally anything and everything😭 i'll might have to limit myself to 2 episodes a day so i don't get completely dehydrated
