I definitely liked this more than their first single. It’s got more depth, more fun, and it’s more refined as well. Also, in regards to the tonality of the song, that comment on YouTube about the African melody was spot on. However I’ve noticed often when a song has that flavor (the post chorus of OMG’s Windy Day comes to mind) it’s a double harmonic major scale. That scale is often attributed to Southern Indian Classical and/or Gypsy music, tho apparently a lot of Greeks claim it’s actually from their ancestors. It is probably most commonly referred to as Arabic (or Hijaz), however. Part of the unique flavor is that western scales are generally divided into major and minor, but double harmonic major combines elements of both giving it a dark yet celebratory feel to western listeners. All this is to say, referring to it having an Arabic feel is not far off here, and is even more accurate other times you’ve said it. But if you wanna sound super pretentious, you can just go “ohhhh.... double harmonic major? Yes, quite nice, quite nice (sips red wine), now where is my monocle?”
