KpopPrince

The reason I love this chorus is because it's unrelenting. Almost oppressive in the way it builds pressure over and over, which could turn off some people. It just makes the release so satisfying after all the repetition, like exhaling after holding your breath.

YES you describe it so well! It took a couple listens to grow on me but goddamn now I love it and maybe that's probably because it feels like I'm getting choked by the chorus 🌝

This was released 6 days after "Feel My Rhythm", so we got Korean and Japanese comebacks in the same week. It was originally supposed to come out the month before, but was delayed for production reasons. I love that this song gave you a "Chi Mat Ba Ram" moment. I went back and listened to some of their earlier title tracks and the chorus reminded me most of "Ice Cream Cake." Like KpopPrince said, "it's unrelenting." They're always trying something different, but still maintaining that Red Velvet sound. Thank you for the day of RV reactions!

So glad you got to finally listen to Wildside! Definitely one of my most favorite Red Velvet releases of recent years. I think this song was extremely cleverly composed and arranged, because the main topic of the song is no longer being afraid of change, of feeling that you're worthless and diving into your true self. The chorus hits you like a truck the first time and is stressful and unrelenting because it's almost like confronting the unhappy truth that you don't want to realize - that there's a better person hidden in you all along and you have to fight to understand it. Of course, the more you listen to the way it hits you, it suddenly becomes refreshing and addictive, because that's right - this is the REAL you, and you get used to this you that you've always wanted to be. I highly enjoyed how the soft points musically were also the soft points lyrically, being about the personal insecurities and despairs, as well as the hopes and affirmations of the voice of the song. Then it just comes all out to remind you of how unshakably and boldly you can live if you are true to yourself. Also I love the music video as well, because I have a feeling that while the girls are trying to "break" into a place with lots of jewelry and pieces of art, these symbolize the trials one faces to confront their real selves. (PS I think the purpose of "Let's go down the street" is in reference to the first time it is sung, because the rap afterwards is "I didn't go anywhere, now I can go anywhere" - basically now they can move forward on the path they choose, rather than being paralyzed in fear.)
