In scotland we say "mud sticks" meaning if someone gets accused of somthing bad or gossip circulated about somthing you mighta done... it won't wash away. People will remember what was said about you regardless of innocence or guilt. Hence "mud sticks" I dont know if other countrys say this but they might have something similar
