Nigel I think you have to know that Woojin left in the midst of preparations. The guys were completely shaken up because all the recordings, the choreography, their unlock tour and even the MV for Levanter was done... frankly they were even recording new era of 2 kids room eps and he's there in some and all of a sudden he wasn't. The rest of them definitely didn't know Woojin had plans to leave and that's why they struggled so much. In such short notice they had to rerecord all the songs and practice hard to fill in the space that he left behind. It's why so many Stays have a love/hate relationship with Woojin. He up and left so suddenly and without explanation, it's not so much that he betrayed the boys and left, it's more so how he left them pretty much helpless.

no you're right they were kinda hinting at speaking on him leaving but they obviously couldn't outright say it, this was my first actual comeback with skz so it was really a sentimental album for me and was my favourite until noeasy came out lmao but this album and era will just always be special to me because it felt like they were turning a new page in their careers especially with it being the end of the clé series!

The video for the you can STAY vid is actually from their first tour after WJ left. Double Knot was recorded before he left so they weren't able to reshoot in time. But their unlock tour was a really emotional time for everyone. I'd definitely suggest watching the DVD if you can find it! They talk a lot about how they felt after he left. STAY had made them a special video that they showed at the end of the concert. That's when everyone started crying lol

also to clear up: double knot was a pre single released 2 months (oct 2019) before levanter dropped (dec 2019), woojin left a few weeks after double knot dropped so that's why he's in the mv and the first lyric video, and as they said the production for levanter was put on hold too... the english version for double knot was released a month after levanter was released (jan 2020) and skz dropped their first re-recorded album of their old discography in march 2020! hope that helped a little lol... OH and the re-recorded albums are called SKZ2020 and SKZ2021

This is one of my favorite albums as well. You can sense in the intro how hard of a time they were having, and they allude to the reason indirectly. Woojin left about a month or so before their comeback, meaning they had to re-record, edit videos and rearrange choreography for 8 instead of 9. I can’t imagine the stress they were under. I highly recommend (either on your own time or for a reaction) watching the District 9: Unlock in Seoul ments. I'm normally not as into the English versions of songs bcuz I always love the originals so much, but the English version of Levanter is an absolute gem! It's equally as beautiful as the original and both versions are in my all time favorite songs list. I hope we get to see you react to it 🥰. You'll love it!

Levanter really is a special album, you will need to check out mixtape 5 (also known as hoddie season) at some point if you don't end up doing skz2021 because by that point you would have already heard all the other tracks.

Our lightstick is called nachimbong, it's a wordplay on the word "compass" in Korean (pronounced nachimban) and the word "rod" (pronounced bong), we all know how stray kids love a nice wordplay! It's got a loose spinning compass as an indicator of being "stray", they touched on the topic in several of their songs. However, a new nachimbong version was released recently (literally last month) and the compass doesn't spin anymore (it has a screen now btw!) which could be a way of them trying to say they're not stray anymore, they finally made their name known, found their path and music color and will continue in their new-found road ❤️

It’s been 101-103. Awful. I love this album and Double Knot is still to this day my favorite song from SKZ. SKZ did a performance video for English double knot and the choreo is 🔥 Levanter English version is my second favorite. It is so beautiful and touches my soul. I love , love this album. As for Woojin, you can see the pain in this intro and it breaks my heart to see them so sad. I won’t say anything else about WJ. As the saying goes…If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

And yes exactly as you said, they always made the music they liked with zero external influence, even when they were widely disregarded, ridiculed and harshly criticised for making bad "noise" music. This might come as a surprise considering all the bangers they made since before debut but they only started being really popular in Korea recently. Ever since their early days they refused to alter their style to appeal more to the Korean general public, they kept doing their thing and eventually got the recognition for their creative music style. I'm just so proud I feel like I'm gonna cry now lol

YESSSSSS I KNEW YOU WOULD LOVE THIS ALBUM 😭💙 it’s so good, and the choreo for levanter & double knot both go so hard (the dance breaks 🤌🏼). i love when certain lines make you lose your shit haha it’s such a difference from when you thought skz didn’t have substance (dw we know you’ve taken that back by now), to now going on passionate lyric break downs. levanter is skz’ most underrated title track imo, our queen deserves so much better 🥲 and the english version is also beautiful!

https://youtu.be/xaVLFR9W4NM Nigel I highly recommend this video they basically saw a fanmade project and it's their speech they did in their first tour after woojin left but just trust me on this one like u have to watch this they were really emotional and it gives u a glimpse of their struggle during this come back because of how things went down with woojin and all that things were incredibly hard for them since they even had to rerecord their song and change some choreo and stuff just to fill woojins spot cause he left them helpless cause how he left was kinda unexpected when 2 weeks left before their comeback which is also why stays opinion on him varies so due to that they were under a lot of pressure and things were dark like no updates from them (skz are usually active on updating stays in social media, live and pics) I wasn't there tho but I can't even imagine how it was for stray kids and stay ( I'm a baby stay too idk much that's why I'm not saying much🥲 but what I know it that u gotta watch this video )

I agree with you about Stray Kids message. These guys do what the best writers do -- write what they know. We follow them on their journey of becoming Stray Kids, questioning themselves and who they are to self-discovery and determination to achieve dreams. As they continue to struggle to succeed and deal with self-doubt, during this time for the next album or two, you see them find their sound and confidence and start to fully own who they are. They begin to embrace being different and embrace criticism by saying "hate all you want," we won't be anything other than ourselves. We will make music that we like. Which all leads up to now where they are owning being the Stray Kids fully. The albums are their journey from boys to men and as artists. I find it very inspiring.

Ok so the reason why Woojin was in Double Knot and not Levanter is because Double Knot was released as a single first before Woojin left. In fact, the reason why Stray Kids were struggling so much at the time is because Woojin left right before they were about to have the Levanter comeback. Its why the album was pushed back. All the music videos for the Levanter comeback were already shot, the music was recorded, the promo pics/album pics already shot and printed and then out of nowhere its revealed that Woojin is no longer in Stray Kids. Everything that has been recorded/shot for Levanter now had to be redone. Music videos have to be redone/ edited, 3racha and the rest of skz had to rerecord the entire album and then redo the entire structure of the songs to fit 8 members instead of 9. On top of that, they also had to rearrange their choreography and relearn it with different positions since the og choreo was made for 9 not 8. They had to do all of this while also having to pick up the pieces after Woojin's departure. The reason why Levanter is such a sentimental album to Stay is because once the news of Woojin's departure was released, Stray Kids went dark. They stopped posting on all social media for weeks. Chan's room was abrubtly halted, no lives or updates from them at all which is unheard of for skz. Stray Kids are usually very active on social media. They update regularly and go live at least 2-3 times a week so when skz went dark, Stays were VERY worried. The fandom was very anxious as there were no updates at all so when skz finally came back with Levanter it was a huge relief. It was such an uncertain time for everyone and Stray Kids suffered a lot. Channie, our poor Channie, he blamed himself for everything and apologised to Stay for not being able to keep the group together. Hyunjin broke down in tears on stage begging Stays to not leave, he was so overwhelmed. To this day we dont know why Woojin was departed from Stray Kids or the circumstances surrounding it, but it was a very dark and difficult time for Stray Kids and Stay. All of this is why Stayville feels some type of way regarding Woojin. There's a lot of negative feelings/memories during that time and we never got any answers or closure. This album is basically a reasurance from Stray Kids to Stay that their journey isn't over and are still here and to not worry, that they'll continue on. Thankfully, they found their footing and became even stronger and released their next album which was their first full album Go Live with God's Menu which kickstarted their career and cemented them as the pioneers of 4th gen and created the malatang genre

Levanter has been my favorite album SINCE IT RELEASED in late 2019/ early 2020 up until 5Stars that just got dropped... if that tells you anything about anything. In Life and Noeasy are the closest ones that have ever threatened to unseat it but since those were full albums I usually ended up having one or two songs I didnt love on them. Levanter, my queen. She deserved better than what she got

This is why I always feel kinda bittersweet with him. He could've waited after the album release or before they even started recording everything. It was such a bad timing and a stressful period for the kids, that even if he followed his heart to be a solo artist, at least he could show a little respect for the rest of members because he put in jeopardy all of their dreams as well, like he wasn't the only one trying to be someone in the industry. I'm happy that he's happy now being a solo artist, and the kids are achieving every single thing they've been dreaming of and keeping rising the bar flawlessly every comeback ✨️ but yeah, it's bittersweet thinking about him...

Stray kids really rerecorded all their discography so there's ot8 versions of all the songs that were released back when woojin was in the group. and yeah skz are talking abt woojin in the intro bc his departure impacted them a lot mentally and even for the group since he left just 2 weeks before their comeback so they had to redo everything and they were scared to lose stays bc of this. that's also one of the reason why some stays don't want to support woojin !

The boys in the intro was still hurting with everything that happen and woojin leaving...the fact that he left 2 wks prior their comeback was not right at all...all JYPE announced he left personal reason...anyways the boys had to post poned the rrlease and redo do the songs and line distribution...everything took a toll of them mentally and emotionally..and if i was not mistaken they were also preparing for their 1st concert too....there are videos out there of when this occurred and their ment...their biggest fear was of losing STAY cuz of this...i love them boys to the moon and back...

Gabriella up there already said everything but yeah, even though I wasn't really there you can tell by videos around that era and especially their reactions in the introduction that they had a hard time with his departure. That is why some old stays don't like to talk about wj and why gods menu+ stays (that had/have zero affection towards him) kinda resent him.

This is a fantastic summary. One thing I would add is that when they went dark, they also didn’t celebrate Lee Know’s birthday (October 25) — the announcement of Woojin’s leaving came a few days later (October 28) — so according to STAYs at the time, that was the most concerning tell that something was wrong. I can’t imagine how uncertain everyone must have felt.

this era was a transitional phase for them in a few ways. you can really feel the elephant in the room in that intro video though, it was so stressful and tense for them and us back then because we were so worried about skz and their future as a group after wj left, and they were worried about us leaving them :(

if you wanna cry, the mv for you can Stay was their District 9 concert. Their first concert after WJ left. Watch the ending statements of that concert. Specifically Hyunjin's part, that had me in tears!!
