Regarding G2 and Luffy using it a little more carelessly than you'd expect based on how Lucci described it during their fight, I look at it similarly to Gear 3 where the debuff is based on the time spent using it. When he uses G3 for the first time fighting Lucci after he turns back he remarks how he used it for x amount of time and now has to hide for that long before he changes back to normal so we know there is a direct correlation there. Gear 2 is extremely taxing on Luffy's body but, it's not simply activating it and using it that is taxing, it's prolonged use of it that is likely doing long term serious damage. When he fights Blueno he's in G2 for a few minutes and after the fight exclaims how his body can't keep up with it yet but, he eats some meat and gets over it pretty quickly. When he's fights Lucci however, he spends far longer in G2 and the consequences are so severe he can't even move and ends up sleeping for three entire days (who knows how long he would have slept had Garp not woken him up). I always considered him jumping into G2 for a quick attack and going back out of it as a means to mitigate those repercussions. Another possible explanation could be Luffy constantly getting stronger with every island they explore and as a result the negative effects of G2 are less severe. Referencing back to what he said after using G2 against Blueno, he specifically says my body can't keep up YET, so it's possible Oda's reasoning is simply that as he is progressing through the Grand Line and becoming stronger the repercussions of using G2 are diminishing so he starts using it more frequently (Or maybe he's just hopped up on Iva's adrenaline shot who knows). Whoops, this was way longer than I meant for it to be, I swear I'm not a massive One Piece nerd.

Also don't forget he's hopped up on Ivan's adrenalin hormones.
