Everyone prepare themselves for this inevitable shitstorm.

Minerva Ravenclaw

I wonder if they've never watched movies about the Holocaust or that specific time in history... Are superb movies Like Sophie's Choice, Life is Beautiful, the pianist Schindler's list, the boy in the striped pajamas and many others, are they also propagandizing Nazism? I wonder maybe they avoid all these types of movies at once...

Mr.Atkins
>>106822865

My entertainment is officially the comments. I didn’t even watch the last video. I just read the comments and got my laugh on. The ironic part is that they will probably stop watching before all the deep emotional human based stories (what nerdy said he wants the most) happen.

KratosRager
>>106822865

I watch cause it’s still inherently Attack on Titan and it’s an amazing show but also to see their increasingly shit takes.

Mr.Atkins
>>106822865

I was watching for their shit takes but after a while it just became way too annoying. But then after you gave your warning a few reactions ago I cancelled my subscription to their patreon. Im only here until my last payment runs out so im entertaining myself with peoples comments. BTW thanks for the warning you gave. I would have been mad if I wasted anymore money.

mohamed rafee

HAHAHAHA I can’t believe how they derive into so much conclusions without evening getting into 40% of the actual story

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106822865

they just said that this is an unrelated story to the three previous seasons and can't understand what Was the point of the three previous seasons ... They also said that their questions were not answered... And everybody sucks. And it's obviously Nazism

Daniel Garcia

They definitely don’t understand the show they are more focus on complaining for every little thing that they don’t like and that’s it I think this show is to complex for them, I just watch their reactions to AOT, do they complain like this with all the other shows? Or for them all the other Tv shows are perfect and as someone told them that AOT is one of the best they made a decision of finding any little “mistake” and try to prove something ? Anyway , I will continue watching their reactions xD

Minerva Ravenclaw

Guys, Reiner, Bert and Annie are Eldians like Greisha. But they were brainwashed since they were kids. I won't spoil more. But no the show does not in any way encourage Nazism or racism. It just highlights these issues just like other shows and movies, in a way it tells you that racism is bad but it exists nonetheless. And yes shitty people exist and the world can be cruel. This is life maybe not for everyone but yea part of it is like that.i don't understand how you understood that they're are somehow encouraging these things ... Historia is a not a superior race she's royal blood ... Ackermans have awakened powers for a reason... If you watch s04 you'll know.

David

Everything in this episode went over their heads. They need to be spooned fed. OMG! These 2 are cringe man.

Jayden Connor

The whole reason you guys are watching are to see peoples reactions right? this has gotta be one of the most unique takes so I don't get why your so upset tbh. like let them watch and if they hate it then they hate it lol

KratosRager

Clarus looks pissed at the end.

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106824638

No they don't react the same to other shows, I've seen their reactions to Mando and The Last of us... No nitpicking whatsoever. Just here so yea I don't get it. I'd totally understand these questions coming from someone who doesn't watch Fantasy genre

Minerva Ravenclaw

And yea Elves in LOTR are considered superior race ... They are blond and have blue eyes ...

royh

I wasn't sure what to think about the reveal for a very long time (I was reading the manga at this point so the story came out very slowly), but I came to really like it. I hope you end up feeling the same. P.S. Part of the fun of watching your videos is recognizing/remembering similar reactions that I had. I absolutely felt some of your apprehension around this point.

L8er Bìtch

Honestly, I legit rooting for you guys, and I'm genuinely disappointed, I've watched EVERY single episode you guys posted on YT, and I have fiercely defended you in the comments, but by God you guys are disappointing, not only do you neglect to pay attention, you don't even know what literacy is, for example y'all saying "renier and Annie are Marleyns".....no, they're Eldians, brain washed little kids being forced to kill their own kind, even tho the story takes heavy inspiration from the Holocaust, this isn't a Jewish Nazi story, but I guess it's a sin to take inspiration?, And "there's superior bloodlines" ......what? It's literally a fictional world, WHERE THERE'S A GOD LIKE BEIGN THAT CAN MIND WIPE PEOPLE AND CREATE GIANTS, or you guys going on about "why does reiss stay out of power if he can mind wiped people" .....idk.....maybe the fact that the Titan power has to be passed every 13 years , and it would raise hella eyebrows if every king mysteriously died after 13 years, they Choose to stay in the shadows because they didn't want people catching on I'm genuinely frustrated by your lack of attention and your lack of understanding towards literacy

Minerva Ravenclaw

Man seriously you just got to this reveal how did you formulate this idea that the show is encouraging racism or not tackling this subject in a good way?? Literally you just got to this reveal, watch s04 then form a proper review then we'll accept it because how can you know if this subject is being tackled the right way from a 20 min episode... You always jump to conclusions in a very irrational way

Marco

Somehow I expected a more in depth discussion from you guys. I’ll keep watching though, just for the takes! Hope to see you watch season 4!

L8er Bìtch

"The Arien race and the Asian race are superior " I cannot believe what I'm hearing, like are we watching the same show? Did they miss EVERYTHING? Like Claroose...are you paying 0 attention?! The reason why the Asians can't be mind wiped is because THEY'RE NOT ELDIANS, THEY'RE NOT TITANS, that power only works on the "subjects of Ymir" only on eldians, no other human being, I'm fucking sick and tired of this shit I'm hearing, I'm with everyone that says, stop watching the show, it's clearly too smart for your tiny ass brains to handle, ......you can't even process the world building information it's giving you let alone UNDERSTAND the political structure of the world or the commentary the show is trying to make

Wangus

I feel like they should have watched this episode again. In fairness, it does throw a lot at you and it is easy to miss things in this one. I've seen several reactors actually rewatch it before giving their final thoughts. And C+N did miss a fair amount. For instance, their question about why Marley wouldn't just openly attack with blimps is explicitly answered. Again they are getting angry at a lot of assumptions that they are making that are just jumping the gun. And also, because they haven't been able to connect with the show previously, they somehow don't see how this could possibly be connected. I'm really not sure what questions they actually have about the characters that they were expecting to get answers to. Reiner, Bert and Annie maybe? But this does address them somewhat at least. But yes, the show is serious. Yes, the show is a tragedy. No it's not super fun anymore, but that doesn't mean it isn't really, really good. I also think they should continue. Honestly, some of the things Clarus mentions do get played out going forward. I don't actually know if they will like it or not. Probably not. But I'd be interested in seeing if they understand why the story was told this way once we go forward. Yes, the previous 3 seasons were a prologue that sets the stage and establishes the show's core themes. Season 4 is where we get to see everything play out. And I truly do not get the idea that Historia and the Reiss family are supposed to be the Aryan master race. That just simply isn't something even remotely ever implied. Or that the show itself is calling Eldians devils? That's clearly a slur/propoganda that the Marleyans are using.

Marco
>>106824937

Agree. Getting upset over someone not enjoying a show as much as you do is cringe. Just stop watching the damn reaction…

Jayden Connor
>>106826003

You could argue that they only feel this way because of the shows failure to communicate its themes clearly. I don't think it's fair to say they are stupid for coming away with a different opinion yeah?

Hiro

I actually really enjoyed this discussion and was engaged throughout. I do see your respective points and get it. I'm not a Jew but my ethnic group was also targeted for a genocide as well in the late 20th century (the Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda where many of my family members were killed) so all of these themes and imagery were as blatant as for you as it was for me. I'm not sure if it was best for Isayama to ground his series so tightly to the real world in that way, but that's a matter for another discussion that has wildly varying opinions. I am a fan of Attack on Titan however I'm not one of those fans who thinks its the best series of all time, or that its not without its flaws like many of your detractors. I do have to say though that from completing the series in the manga, Isayama doesn't have the intention of justifying this racism/fascism theme, but I can see how you reached your conclusion at this juncture. And yes, I personally found numerous problems with the ending of the series which left me deeply unsatisfied too, which colors my perception of the overall story.

KratosRager
>>106826003

You don’t have to be quite so extreme with your response. And the Ackermans are actually Eldians.

Manifique Tae

SEASON 4 is out here the best season so far of AOT AND UNDERSTADABLE we gotta ssee the whole season 4

Jacob Jacobsen
>>106823173

I don't think I've watched those specifically, but I've never watched a movie set in nazi germany that leaves certain aspects of Nazi propaganda ambiguous. I don't think they have a problem with either the racism, or original sin part, they have a problem with the fact that its both and is umcomfortably close to groups in the real world.

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106823173

But I mean racism exists... Like it or not it's out there. There are Plenty of movies that show the ugly side of racism in a very horrific way, 12 years a slave, The Green book for example. Which are brilliant movies, but they don't encourage racism, they just show you how ugly it is. That's the message of AOT, I don't understand how they interpreted otherwise. Or at least they should watch s04 so they can form a proper review

L8er Bìtch
>>106826203

The thing that's incredibly frustrating to me is how claroose is going on about "they're saying the Jews are devils", "there's superior races" when the show is literally stating the complete opposite........Eren Kruger literally says "the one truth I've learned about this world is there is no Truth, anyone one of us can be a god or a devil, all it takes is people to believe it"..........what about that statement backs the shit they're ranting about? Or the fact that they're making it a real world thing......like my G, Nazi Germany didn't have an elite unit of Jewish people serving in their military, Nazi Germany didn't turn people into flesh eating monsters, and the Jewish people weren't giants with super powers, they can't even differentiate between taking inspiration from real world events and implementing them in a fictional world, they're literally talking about the world of the show as if it's not even fiction They literally do not understand literacy

David
>>106826382

I believe this to be the case also. But good on her for backing her man up.

Wangus
>>106826382

Nah. If anything, on this one, I think she influenced him more-so. He wasn't quite as hot about the episode while watching and seemed to be engaged with a lot of it, but she was clearly fuming the entire time. But it's normal for the opinion of your friends/loved ones to effect your opinion when you watch something together.

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106826382

Good on her for backing her man up? What kind of character is this😅 if I don't agree with my partner I better be true to myself honestly...

L8er Bìtch
>>106826003

Yes , claroose said "the Asians can't be mind wiped too" referencing that the Ackermans can't be mind wiped too, and saying it was becouse they're a superior race

Wangus
>>106826398

I don't think they are going to like it. But I'll watch it if they do react just to see. I'd be thrilled to see them turn around. Just seems unlikely given how black and white they want things to be presented.

Wangus
>>106826003

But most most reactors I've watched spend a lot of their commentary digging into the themes that each episode or arc is exploring. And, with the popularity of the show, I think most people who enjoy it are connecting with those themes as well. Saying the show is failing because a few people don't pick up on things sometimes is a bit ridiculous. That's not to say Nerdy and Clarus are stupid. Not at all. I just think that a variety of factors made it hard for them to really meet this show on its level and give it their full attention and engage with it as something other than a silly action anime.

ZQ.Yellow

First of all, I appreciate that you focused on watching this episode. Also, I think most viewers can see that the Eldia and Marley is inspired by Jews and Nazis, but why do you think it encourages Nazism? Secondly, you might think that all your questions will be answered when Season3 ends, but this is just a preconceived notion you got from the comments. The show is still ongoing, it's too early to make some conclusions here.

L8er Bìtch
>>106826003

The themes of the show are intentionaly muddy, idk if you watched season 4 but... nothing about season 4 is clear cut, and this is exactly the point I'm making, it's fiction, it's a fictional world using real world events, not the real world with fictional elements, the whole Jewish/Nazi thing only extends out to the arm bands and "internment zones", nothing else is the same Spoiler warning, do NOT READ, claroose and nerdy We, who have watched season 4 now that Paradise is literally just a fascist as Marley.....were Jewish people facist in our real world?....like ever? But the people they think are Jewish "stand ins" are literally Nazis themselves, it's literally 2 Nazi factions, and Ik they don't know about this, but the fact that they concluded that the show is making racist points makes me doubt they'll ever see that, they'll be too stuck in the real world thing so much they'll forget it's fiction.

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106826003

I believe the factors that affected their reactions and affected our feedback to their reactions, upon observation: they had very high expectations, they are not very familiar with anime (maybe), they honestly don't pay much attention and tend to talk during important scenes, their attitude since day 1( like laughing, not taking most characters seriously, mocking character decisions), not accepting the fantasy elements in the show (although they seem to accept it in other fantasy shows) and they had a sense of egoism (mainly Nerdy, like he doesn't take fans explanations into consideration as we are always wrong and he's always right, especially by hinting that he's a pro critic because he watches lots of movies and series, as we don't do that too...) sorry but that's how I perceived things😅 no offense, I still Respect both and I believe they have every right to express their genuine opinions and we have every right to criticize.

L8er Bìtch
>>106826003

I agree with you, and I do apologize for calling them stupid, that's uncalled for, but man it's frustrating seeing them make criticism that isn't even there if they actually tried to understand what the show is

L8er Bìtch
>>106826203

My bad on that one, but still, they're jumping the gun, they don't even trust the show, even tho it has delivered every time

Jayden Connor
>>106826003

I'm just saying assuming they are paying Attention its a lot of Information at once so its hard to decipher a clear theme. Especially considering how complex aot themes are ya know

L8er Bìtch

And just to be clear I'm someone who agrees with most of their views about Erwin, and seasons 1-2, but man this is too much

KratosRager
>>106826138

They’re also under the assumption that Marley has planes, which they don’t.

Jayden Connor

I will, until the day I die, defend this Nazi romanticising, alt right dog whistling, too close to home history, racist propagandising AOT take lmfao

Wangus
>>106826138

Yeah. I think they meant blimps. But even so, there are a lot of assumptions made about Marley and Eldia that just seem to be based on a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the what this episode is saying. Also, I am frustrated that they don't seem to put some very simple things together sometimes. Like that Marley is referred to as a nation. Not the ONLY nation. So they treat the presence of an Asian as thought it is a plot hole? And don't just connect the dots that there is at least one asian nation somewhere in that world. That sort of thing. Like just basic things where if the show isn't explicitly explaining it, they refuse to connect any of the dots on their own.

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106826003

@L8er bitch I totally understand your frustration... I get frustrated too because most the things they say are really illogical to what the show is presenting, I'm a very pragmatic person so I can't tolerate such interpretations😅

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106826003

@Jayden Connor, true true but at least they should've tried to understand more or to analyze properly I mean after all they are reacting online, some reactors take notes, others rewatch the episode so that they can discuss properly, some reactors pause scenes so they can process things ... Here there's no effort whatsoever, not even to understand minor obvious things ... Anyways, it is how it is

Sketch

I really like watching your reactions of AoT because they're pretty different to like any other reactor I've seen and that makes it interesting. However I don't like the idea that this show encourages Nazism or is anti semitic in some way. I think that take is and has always been ridiculous.

diggs

eren is called the Attack Titan

Jayden Connor
>>106826003

nah I totally get it, and whilst there are lots of misunderstandings, I can see how overwhelmed with so many different new directions aot is going in it is sorta like whiplash or whatever. I do feel as though they make a good effort to in their own way discuss the show like other people so I disagree but I think they might dislike the themes and how they are presented. I doubt they'll like the rest of aot but who knows

diggs

i wish someone would have told yall from the begining what the show is really about the show is an ANTI-war show really thats what the storyand heart is, its an anti-war show

diggs

also the Eldians were more like the Roman Empire

diggs

lol yall ended up being to woke to enjoy the show lmao didnt see that one coming

Hiro
>>106826203

I get what you're saying since I have finished the series (in the manga) myself, but the issues with the themes of racism/fascism that were introduced is a legitimate point of contention. The reason why is that the show is now ushering in the idea that subjugation, as well as the genocide of a group of people, can now be justified based upon their "history" and characteristics "for the good of humanity/the nation/etc". And committing subjugation and genocide on the Marleyans if you're the Eldians, or on the Eldians if you're the Marleyans is now THE logical course of action rather than some extremist point of view. This should be considered absolutely revolting and sickening as an idea. Yet here we are. You may think that this is just fiction, but the power of storytelling is the most powerful force in human communication. If you're going to tell a story where you're making a blatant analogue to real world experiences and people who DID suffer, then you need to be very careful with how you proceed. The fact that there are certain 'races' which are functionally different and "superior" or "demonic" depending on the point of view in this story can be a very problematic theme that people take issue with, especially if you're writing a story where people can start JUSTIFYING persecution and genocide. Like I said, I'm a fan of Attack on Titan. And I know Isayama didn't have the intent of promoting racism/fascism. However he did choose to directly engage those themes by using real-world analogues, and he instead directly made the justifications of those stereotypes true ('Eldians are monsters') rather than the untrue propaganda of the real-world examples. So essentially the series asks a question, "What if Nazis were right about the Jews being the source of their world's evil?" And that -while it can make a compelling story -also introduces problems which I can't fault Nerdy/Clarus for taking issue with. Beyond that this discussion was interesting, because while I do enjoy this story, I do agree with Nerdy and Clarus that the story itself is no longer "fun". It is most definitely well-written (at least until the ending) with some amazing story-telling, but this is functionally a different type of show that's not as "fun" as previous seasons. It is just as engaging however.

ZQ.Yellow
>>106826003

Yeah, they missed so many important details and foreshadowing that even after watching this episode, it would be difficult for them to connect all the clues. That's why when they were watching Season 2, I said that the dub would be more suitable for them.

Le Thai

I have no ideas what you guys are saying at all. What are you guys trying to say? I am more confused as to your dissatisfaction of the show. Please spell out the exact problem of this show? I am so stupid that I need explanation. What is so bad about this show? What did Hajime Isayama write that pisses you off so much? Either you guys are so superior in your intelligent (or rather narrow minded) that whatever you are saying just don't make any sense to me. Can anyone out there clarify for me what they are trying to say? "Please someone find me"

kai

I enjoy a lot of your discussion/insight even if I don't agree with all of your points. I was just curious, I can see the parallelism between Marleyans and Nazis in the story, but I was wondering why you thought the show was justifying it? I feel like the Marleyans are clearly evil from what they have shown at this point, and the Eldians who supported the Marleyans were either indoctrinated/brainwashed. So I was wondering if you would explain a little more on how the show seems to justify/support it?

kai

Also, you both expressed disappointment on the information/basement reveal and you wished it was something different, and that it doesn't tell us more about the main characters we have been following up until now/and that learning titan history wasn't the reveal you were anticipating. I'm curious what you meant by that? I feel like the basement addressed the biggest question(s) for me, was (1) what is the world outside of the walls like, and (2) what are the titans/where do they come from (3) who the enemy really is. Plus, the show has always been dark/tragic, so I anticipated the basement to reveal something to that extent as well. So while the reveal is awful and deeply unsettling, I'm curious the dislike for it? I felt like it made me more excited for s4 to see how they would fight back knowing the information they do know.

Ekubochan

jeeeeeeeeeeesus christ some of the worst takes i've ever heard about this show...and that's saying something

flyingbread

I think you guys should just read the wikia synopsis of the show or have us spoil the ending for you. This ep is revealing his father's origin, the origin of where did all those titans are coming from, where Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie are from. We know now who Zeke is. It also reveals why the royal family is important, that humans still exist outside the wall. And this is only the first part of the lore reveal. It reveals a lot of info and still bringing up new questions, but you guys are frustrated that the show doesn't reveal EVERYTHING in season 3. ???????????????????? Don't you guys even read BOOKS? In which, the author takes dozens of volumes to reveal any stuff???? What book are you guys reading so that all of your answers are revealed hafl way through. If your goal was to incite frustration for more engagement, it worked, but you just seem like you haven't read any kind of fiction. I don't know what kind of show you guys expect when you are supposed to be fantastic book reader/reviewers. Fantasy books are ALL about having a shitload of lore content and reveal them through thin narrative threads.

Raikon

Oh boy! I was not expecting this reaction from them. They might as well stop watching now if they are going to continue equating Marleyans to Nazi's and Eldians to Jews in their heads. They will absolutely throw a fit when they get toward the end of season 4. I don't see them moving past this though unfortunately and their reactions are going to become unbearable as a result. I can already hear it. If there is ever a moment where they are suppose to sympathize with a Marleyan characters, they will now be closed minded about it because they're Nazis and are the bad guys. Same if an Eldian is ever portrayed in an unfavorable light they will speak up as to how they are playing into anti-semetic Jewish stereotypes. SMH

flyingbread
>>106825727

"Why are they on the Island??" The show: we literarily just explained 2 minutes ago. "This a whole new show" The show: SOO, here is where Reiner, Annie, Bert, Zeke, Ymir and Grisha are from and why they are doing what they are doing. We will also show you where the Titans are from and what's causing so many of them to be on the Island. Oh and we will show you guys that the Island is actually very small compared to the rest of civilization and that this society that has been your sole focus is actually an oppressed minority that another nation is trying to commit genocide upon. "Yeah well it doesn't explain anything about any of the characters. Literarily EVERYONE on your channel and comments: HUUUUUUH?

L8er Bìtch
>>106830884

Yeah, the whole Jewish Nazi thing is literally just a sample of what's really happening, and here they are equating to real world 1930s-40s, they just don't seem to have good literacy, cos if they can't tell the difference between a real world story with fictional elements, and a fictional story with real world elements, then I don't know what to say, they won't ever be able to enjoy the show, and we won't be able to enjoy their reactions You have no idea how sad this makes me, I was rooting for them man

KratosRager
>>106827995

Spoiler. But technically they already know that since they’ve finished season 3

Anna Kyruin

When i first watched this episode i had similar concerns to Nerdy and Claroos. The hollocost is not a subject to be taken lightly and i do feel it is problematic the way that iconography is being used as well. However... i do believe that the totality of what Isayama created in the remainder of the series does have some very good and grounded themes and writing they both will appreciate, and that the work as a whole is on the balance worthwhile despite the fact that dropping these themes at the third season of what has been heretofor an action horror anime, does feel somewhat hamfisted. I absolutely agree with Nerdy that the series stops being fun to watch in the same way it was earlier, but i believe it becomes compelling in an entirely different way now. Looking forward to seeing how they both respond. Also cut them some slack y'all.. good grief their discussion was not that out of left field tbh.

Trevus Simon

Calm down, you guys missread a lot of things and forgot a lot of informations

PKS

I wish they don't watch Deon Slayer, Death Note, or other such story based reveals shows.

PKS

Bloody Britishers made Indian wear bands who worked in British Army or Police. Why do you know about only one history?

Gu

I'llhaven't watched and might not but ,It was Nazis all along .. that sounds like the big reduction that undercuts the scale, implications , lore, unexpected twist taking place this ep. Originally I may have been like you expecting the story to take a direction of more fantasy focus however that would have its own challenges bringing satisfying narratives and ultimately may have been less impactful. So now we know why there wasn't everything "revealed " prior. Also u can grasp what kinda show this is envisioned to be and understand why you don't see " enchantingness". Rather with the basement reveal I was.moreso in awe and horrified yet still in awe it's not easy to continuously write in such consistently placed problems of horror after 3 seasons. Secondly while aot def came out way before maybe look into the dark trio of anime nowadays it's kinda beginning to show that the Japanese /south Korea have a preference for horror based storytelling , I believe you can also see this from live action works.( Even if SK like "all of us are dead" which has a slot of blood )

ZQ.Yellow
>>106830884

@PKS Demon Slayer? Realy? That show has so many kinda filler scenes/epsodes, also the plot is too simple and the protagonist has too many explanatory monologues just ruin the show, I don't think it's a show for adults

Stefan

N+C officially midwit tier reactors with SJW takes on the show. They've already seen episode 21 from what I understood, so they've already heard the owl say "The only truth is that there is no truth", which implies the information pushed out by Marley might also be, surprise surprise, propaganda. Muh blood libel, muh nazis, muh social justice. It's so midwit you guys, holy hell. Just stick to something simpler if you're not ready for heavy subjects without immediately tweaking out. Go watch some pew pew shows without any real subject matter.

Gu
>>106824937

I think people are just cringing at the dumb takes. They're allowed to have dumb takes but we're also allowed to.cringe at them

Khalayx

I'm skipping the last 8-9 minutes of discussion on this one. They still have a lot of misunderstandings about Titans that I suspect they may not realize until the first episode or two of season 4 (if they end up watching it). Given that I just spent the last 3 seasons complaining about people spoiling by overclarifying in comments, I'll try not to be a hypocrite. We'll see if we end up getting to have these discussions or not but I personally think a lot of this has more to do thematically with nationalism than with eugenics or the Jewish holocaust. Important to keep in mind this was created from the Japanese perspective and not a Western one. Anyways, we'll see where things go from here.

Not even tryna be mean but y’all really try to sound so smart and above everything that’s happening but u just look low iq in the process if u really pay attention to what’s happening and put stuff together it makes a lot of sense tbh along with some mystery to let u guys fill in the blanks on ur own 👌🏽

I never said you have to agree. It's just funny how mad you guys will get over this lol

Ideophagous

A few things that were already explained in the show or are easy to guess: - Only Eldians can turn into titans - The Reiss/Fritz family are a special bloodline of Eldians, who have the ability to wipe memories and use the Founding Titan to its full ability - Some people are immune to the memory wipe effect of the Reiss, namely Orientals and Ackermanns. Whether they're Eldians or not is yet to be explained in the show - Reiner and co are brainwashed Eldians - Marley can't attack head-on in an all-out war because they're afraid that the King in the Walls will retaliate with the Founding Titan, unleashing millions of colossal Titans imprisoned within the walls (it was explained in this episode). Reiner also explained in season 3 episode 15 (when Marco was listening in) that they were trying to provoke a reaction from the King by making relatively small attacks, in order to locate him and steal the Founding Titan from him. - Marley has become the dominant Empire in the world after they won the Great Titan War more than 100 years ago, and is currently afraid to lose that dominance, hence their urgent need for more resources and the control over the Founding Titan. Also: The history of Eldia vs Marley loosely takes inspiration from Jews vs Nazis, but it's best not to push the analogy too far. As you'll see later there are other sources of inspiration from real history, and many elements already presented in the story are inspired from the real world. Marley is pronounced "Mare" in Japanese, which may come from the Italian word for "sea", while "Eldian" is pronounced "Erudia", could be from German "Erde" = Earth. "Ymir" is the name a giant in Nordic mythology, and later other parallels with Nordic mythology will be presented as well. The concept seems to be more like "Roman/Italian vs Germanic/Nordic"-like people, not Nazis vs Jews. It's a story about racism and collective sin, with themes that resonate until today. Dott Pixis is inspired from a Japanese WWII general, Eren's and Reiner's Titans from real-world MMA fighters, Shinganshina from a village in Bavaria, Germany. That doesn't mean Shiganshina is that very same village in Bavaria, or that Dott Pixis is supposed to be a copy-paste of that very Japanese general. Similarly, Eldians are not THE Jews, and Marleyans are not THE Nazis. They both, Eldians and Marleyans, at some point in history have behaved in an oppressive manner towards the other, just like almost every other nation in the real world.

Agree with this comment. The first three seasons are fun. The jury is still out for me with the last season but the themes are certainly interesting. But the transition is very jarring, they are basically two different shows, and I can't imagine reacting to this live. I'm doing my best to give these two credit for that reason. That said, between AoT and their Wheel of Time bookclub, I've started to get the feeling that maybe these two should just avoid content with highly controversial elements. Maybe because they tend to be extremely focused on plot structure and character arcs but don't explore themes very much in their discussions. But their reactions to both series are still ongoing so we shall see.

>>106837496

this!! i think for now they have the idea that the show is an exact kinda analogy/representation for ww2 and the nazis and the jewish people and i can obv see why because of the nature of the imagery and subject matter which is definitely uncomfortable (and i think its meant to be) but i think it would be a shame if they just dropped the show based on this assumption

PKS
>>106836595

she has better understanding, but he just goes with presumptions and then get confused when story does not match his presumptions.

PKS
>>106830884

It is a Shonun so for adults only anyways, but yeah its a simple story, but this guy will pressume and has capability to ruin even that. That what all I meant, I am no where comparing the brilliance of storyline of AOT or DN with DS. I laugh when I even think, how they will watch Death Note.

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106829232

Bert Reference 🤍 I also can't understand especially when they can't fathom the fantasy aspects of the show 😅 I understand the rest yea they don't like that sort of narrative, they don't like to be teased perhaps... Sure. But what confuses me the most is why they nit-pick at random stuff in a fantasy story😅

Minerva Ravenclaw
>>106830790

I was shocked when they said that this episode didn't give them answers... I mean I don't know 😅 what what their questions again?

Ideophagous
>>106837496

As a non-Western myself, I didn't grow up being consitantly told how awful Nazis are,* so even if Marleyans were literally Nazis (which they're not), it would not have bothered me much. Also while a lot of anti-semitism exists in my home country, we also had a large minority of Jews historically, and their descendants still have a strong attachment to their original country (even though most of them migrated to Israel), and the feeling is mutual to a large degree. But I can see how this would feel uncomfortable to Westerners, and how Isayama had to play on a delicate balance to not upset any side. I think he may have wanted to criticize Japanese "sins" in WWII, but he could not because it's too sensitive a topic in Japan even today, so he went for the next best thing, from his perspective. I think it's important to keep in mind that this show was produced in Japan, by a Japanese artist, mainly for a Japanese audience, which does not have the same cultural background as someone from the West or elsewhere. But in my opinion, Isayama still made an incredible job invoking universal themes that are relevant for humans from any background or epoch. *I have to emphasize here that Nazi ideology is evil to the utmost degree, but there are many awful ideologies and regimes that have done similar evil acts, but are talked about less if at all, simply because they're not from the West, or because the atrocities they committed were outside of Europe and North America

PKS
>>106825727

I might be called hater, but I was saying from beginning, he presumes a story in head and then it does not matches the actual story arc and he gets confused. AOT is so brilliant that it is too complex for him.

PKS
>>106824638

Man, Marvel is fantasy genre, no complaints there.

People liked the reactions at first due to being different and then got invested, then watching them try to force their opinions and own story arc on the wrong side lane, thats why people get mad.

@Aaron Wittwer: I mistakenly paid for the Patreon almost a month ago and now I’m riding out my subscription as I express how displeased I am with their AoT content.

Why are we throwing around alt-right nonsense buzz-words like "woke" and "SJW"?

Stefan
>>106837496

@Ideophagous I'm from the Netherlands, which was occupied by nazi Germany from 1940 to 1945. Our country has a public holiday dedicated to our liberation from the Nazis on the 5th of May every year, where we are reminded each year what atrocities the nazis have committed. I'm not blind to what happened or the parallels the show is drawing, but I'm also not so dedicated to hating the show that I immediately draw the conclusion that N+C are trying to draw, which is "The show is trying to create a world where the nazis were right by saying the blood libel propaganda of the nazis was true", which is an insane leap to take. It's like that meme where an African-American girl is watching a performance of artists from Montenegro in the Eurovision song festival, and she asks herself "Montenegro? Is that... a joke on black people?!". It's such an uninformed leap.

Stefan
>>106834845

I'm Dutch, so for me SJW means someone who tries to see the worst in everything as they fight for someone that never asked to be fought for in the first place. I'm all the way left when it comes to politics, even in an already left country.

Wangus
>>106828575

It's not "woke" to hate nazis my guy. What's with all the weird, alt-right, anti-woke nonsense coming out of the woodwork on this one. Like I also am frustrated by their reactions, but it has nothing to do with "wokeness", and more to do with them blaming the show for their own lack of attentiveness.

Jay Craig

+2 for sync up if you dare, I lol'd

wheatfat

Oh dear... I think if they'd taken the show more seriously they wouldn't be laughing at it so much or be so surprised by the serious tone right now, but they really do seem to think they're just intellectually above it, which is frustrating. I can't help but think if they ever rewatch this show they'll kick themselves for being so arrogant, but we'll see. That said, I think people are angrier than they should be over this reaction. On some level, yeah, it's frustrating. Like "It's either been giving us racist points or it's been giving us wrong information." Where's the option for "We came to the wrong conclusions"? Some of the things they think are the case just aren't at all. Claiming this reveal has "nothing to do with the last three seasons" while also saying how much it recontextualizes everything and slowly realizing how much you can infer about previous events now is a little bit incoherent as well. Otherwise, I really can't complain about where they're at. Maybe they just haven't liked the show for a while and they're just here for the views, maybe they missed stuff or have interpreted too many things wrong, maybe they're just doing that thing where they decide they don't like something before it even has a chance to play out. Who knows. Looking forward to the rest. **If either of you two are actually reading this, this is a BIT SPOILERY in the abstract but it's worth mentioning that this story does not go on to make statements about real world groups or real world historical events. With the context of knowing everything from here up until the end, I can safely assure you that the use of WWII imagery appears to have been a simple attempt to quickly and easily portray the current oppressed/oppressor dynamic between Eldians and Marleyans. That's it. Whether or not it was in poor taste is something people still argue over, but the story never gives us any reason to believe it's anything more than that. Additionally, the show will frequently and explicitly make the case that races of people are not inferior or superior to one another and war, genocide, etc. are absolutely awful (even in a world like this one, where each has legitimate cause to fear the other). Now it's not like the show is going to cut to black and literally say all this in text, but this is my interpretation and seems to be the common one.**

wheatfat
>>106842086

Yeah, I agree. I think they've given a bit of a knee-jerk reaction here but they've shown lots of media literacy with other shows, they're intelligent people, and it's fully possible they'll get it. I don't think this reaction at all warrants some of the nasty comments.

wheatfat
>>106828575

There's a subset of cringelords in the AoT fandom unfortunately, that's where they're coming from.

wheatfat
>>106824638

They actually have displayed really great media literacy in the past so this has certainly been out of character.

wheatfat
>>106822865

To your "everybody sucks" point Minerva, isn't it kind of interesting that because there are evil people in both groups she says the whole world should be destroyed? Like, she'd condemn all the innocent Eldians and Marleyans who are good people for the sins of other members of their race, all while saying original sin is stupid because it ignores individuality. Lmao.

Ideophagous
>>106837496

@Stefan I agree that it's a strange leap, but it fits within their general tendency to quickly dismiss anything they don't understand in the show as a "plot hole". AOT has its faults, but most of what they disagree with or criticize isn't among them. I don't know what went wrong exactly, but either they were overhyped before they started AOT, and were disappointed because it didn't fit their conception of a "great story", or they're just not into the narrative structure of a mystery show (where you don't get any answers immediately, only small clues along the way at best). I think you also need some humility to accept that you don't have all the answers, and to withhold judgment until the end, and simply take the show for what it is, a humility they displayed neither vis-a-vis the millions of fans who have watched AOT until the last available episode, and enjoy its narrative, nor vis-a-vis Isayama himself. Of course, they are entitled to their own opinions, and are absolutely free to dislike AOT. I just wish they had deeper and more insightful criticism of the narrative, which you can only do by 1/ paying very close attention to the details and reflecting upon the themes, and 2/ giving the show the benefit of the doubt, i.e. instead of "xyz makes zero sense", they could approach it with the attitude "I hope xyz will be explained", or "I will check back because xyz may have already been explained, or is easy to guess". You can tell they don't care about the show that much, because most good reactors actually take notes or rewatch the episodes before they do analysis or recap, or get a mod to filter comments, so they can get some feedback and corrections along the way. Maybe they don't want to spend time on it, which is fair, and maybe part of their frustration is that they can't see what's good about AOT on a surface level, but also can't be bothered to do a rewatch or make a deep dive into it, because it's not the type of time investment they usually like to make.

David

They really display erratic woke SJW behavior. Let me explain. 1. They appear to not like being called out and say they are wrong in their takes. Even if their viewers point out valid proof on what they got wrong. 2. They don’t appear to be open minded enough to even consider that they may have missed something or some plot and character moments went over their heads 3. They are very sensitive for almost no reason. 4. The need to be right

ItsThatGuyIAm
>>106828575

I haven't really wanted to say this, but I tend to agree with the "too woke" take. Throughout the show (and also book club), it has seems as if they're getting too hung up on the mere presence of problematic themes to really parse how those themes are being used to tell the story, and to see the inherent criticism of those themes in the story itself.

>>106852305

They aren't having the same experience as you, that doesn't make their experience "wrong". The "woke" and "SJW" labels are just so silly at this point. Words and distinctions become meaningless if you apply them to literally every point of view you disagree with. In case you aren't aware "woke" originally meant that the person was defying the accepted reasoning of the dominant culture and applying critical thinking. "SJW" was invented as a slur to sideline people who advocate for equal rights and representation in online spaces. Certainly there are people who practice what is academically referred to as "paranoid reading" and read negative or racist things into text which is actually benign in context or intent. That is a thing, but the way terms like "woke" and "SJW" are being applied so liberally without any thought as to what those terms mean or their historical context is honestly pretty irritating. I invite you to define "woke" and "SJW" in a coherent way that doesn't just mean "someone is criticizing something I like, or disagrees with me"

L8er Bìtch
>>106837496

@Ideophagous. Well spoken mate, nailed it on the head, this is exactly what I was trying to say, it's a fictional world taking inspiration from real world elements and events, the whole Nazi Jew thing stop at the arm bands and "internment zones", and a few images used in the Season 4 opening theme

Anna Kyruin
>>106852305

In addition (1) Literally nobody likes being told they're wrong, especially in an insulting way (2) They literally say that there may be more context that they're missing -in the video- (3) You're just demonizing having strong feelings (4) Literally everyone wants to be right This looks like a formula to dismiss literally everyone who disagrees with you.

Well they showed an imagine of planes in the episode so that’s why I think they think that Marley has planes.

Aaron Wittwer
>>106852305

For real, I haven't seen anyone throw around "SJW" on any other videos, but these comments have multiple people dropping it. I don't know where they all came from all of a sudden. Like, even if you are frustrated by their reactions here, I wouldn't have imagined anyone who would so casually drop "SJW" and "woke" would pay money to be part of the patreon of a duo that are so clearly left politically. Like it's not even SJW behavior to just misinterpret a show. Thay's not even what that means. So weird.

PKS
>>106829232

First is that he does presumptions and when the actual story line does not match he gets mad and confused. Second, they want to look at it exactly with some story or event of past exactly, but the show is not like that, it takes inspiration from 1000 things, and they don't like it. Like they got stuck at Nazi and Jews, not realizing that Britishers also used bands on Indian soldiers, etc. Third, they focus on wrong stuff or get confused so much that they do not see the intricate details in the show, that where Reiner and co came from, why Marleyans use them, and lot of other stuff. I think they will not be able to comprehend that there is no protagonist and antagonist in this show.

>>106852305

@Anna krurin not everyone has the write down complex wording of feedingback. I'm not really a fan of discussing real world social topics atleast here with his it's coming out from this. But I want to say woke would prob be making an overly big fuss about touchy topics (, real life history, right wing support etc) moreso there are some common beliefs of this mental bar it's subjective, but I think given the knowledge they are lefties coupled with nerdys takes for preference of Hollywood type morality that can be see restrictive, Airbender ,colorful character arcs , hatred for stoic characters, dislike for continual violence ,having to know antagonist motivations , needing some depth even in s2 ( this was their feedback), saying they were hoping for some hope even tho the end of s2 and s3 p1 was hopeful, like for enchantingness i presume ,"you can't deconstruct fascism for the cowardly ideology that it is" seeing these pattern of beliefs it's not ungrounded for them to have a strong disagreement with how CN apply their beliefs onto the quality of the work. Considering their takes and considering how unpopular they are I guess this opinion of them being overly caring for the visuals isn't without some moral disagreement from alot of watchers . While I prob share some standards I disagree with them here to some extents. I really don't get "in an insulting way "! When literally that has been a part of their behavior through season 1 , indirectly patronizing their viewers.

Stephen

Your people need to calm down, if you dont like their discussions then dont watch it. i personally only watch the reactions and im having a great time

Stefan
>>106852305

@Anna Kyruin Thanks for elaborating and educating, turns out I have been using it wrong (non-native speaker). My understanding was that a SJW was someone who attempts to be the defender of a perceived minority, despite their not being any minory to defend, or where said minority doesn't need/want any defending. "Paranoid reading" fits the bill much more perfectly for what I was seeing in their reactions. @Aaron Wittwer I was one of those people, but as you can read I was using the term wrong. I'm Dutch and misinterpreted how the term SJW should be used. Live and learn I suppose. I'm in no way right. Tax the rich, no guns, pro-choice, all that good stuff.

YMIR the one u think abt is completely irrelevant to the Founder Ymir, she is just named after the first Eldian Ymir

Peak

also it literally is explaining but you guys just arent understanding. Eldians are Erens people in the walls and The ones against them are the race of Marley. Theres many races in the world but ONLY ELDIANS CAN TURN INTO TITANS thats why they are called devils

Manny

Yeah y’all might as well stop watching at season 3 lol. The assumptions you guys have made through the show, and things that were treated as jokes and with sarcasm ruined it for y’all. Instead of letting the show play out, you kept trying to make it seem like you knew where it was going. Now that the show has gone a completely different route from what you assumed (by your own volition), you’re frustrated lol

Also, you guys keep saying “superior races”, when the show clearly says “superior nations”. SUPERIOR NATIONS! That is a key part that y’all missed.

Thanks for pointing them out to me. I know exactly what you are saying about your First, second and third points. But what I don't understand is why are they so pissed about showing Nazi and Jews? If they want to go there then they have to tell us clearly which side they are on, either Nazi side or Jews side because I don't understand why they are so mad about it.

Mitchell Edward Newton

It's not jewish people and Nazis. There is some parallel imagery with the armbands but Eldians are their own thing.

>>106852305

@ Anna Kyruin mature people would accept being told they're wrong when they're ACTUALLY WRONG. The sky is blue that's a fact, if you see it green that's wrong you have to accept it. Whether you like the sky or not that's your opinion which can't be wrong. But they are literally inventing wrong things and believing that these are canon. They're not doing a decent job with these reactions and when fans pointed this out, or at least gave them explanations they behaved in a very childish and immature way by dissing the fans, disrespecting the anime even Isayama Himself. They are free to do so still but then they should expect the backlash. This is totally normal. Their behavior has been insufferable towards the fans and not the other way around.

Gu

I think this can now be said about the acketmans, eldia betrayed the ackermans sometimes in the past because they realized they couldn't no longer wipe their memories , after being enhanced and tested on . originally meant to protect the king,They are human titans with an awakening, So the ackermans were persecuted in paradis. Point Kenny ended up in the underground ,When the king secluded himself in paradis mostly everyone is eldian but some descendants such as orientals we're also leftover and being different persecuted in paradis that's why mikasas dad who is an Ackerman met Mikasa mom who was an oriental because they lived very far away because they were afraid of percussion and being caught. ,
