Okay, Maggie didn't do anything y'all. Lol it's never openly explained but it is hinted that Maggie is mad at Michonne because she refused to aid Hilltop when they were going through a severe sickness outbreak. And considering Maggie stretched her people and rations for years to help Alexandria with the Saviors against her desire, Michonne doing that to her and her people pissed her off. It's why Michonne is the one who feels guilty here and why Judith included Aunt Maggie. Because Michonne didn't help her when they needed it, just like she didn't help Carol and her people.

Now you'll know why Michonne is the way she is. She went through something really traumatic and yes Daryl was there but he didn't get the sh*t beat of him and had to kill kids to defend herself and her unborn child. Michonne have never done anything wrong in my opinion. Those kids needed to be put down because they would have gone on to do the same thing to unsuspecting people.

Michonne did give Hilltop supplies and Tara took more than she was given, she said so herself and why she didn't go back to Alexandria. Also Michonne told Carol they was welcome to stay in Alexandria since she knew the Kingdom was falling apart, because why keep putting a bandaid on the Kingdom?

Sadly.. it's kill or be killed. And she tried over and over to get them to just walk away, but it gets to a point. They were repeatedly going for her belly, the belly that her child was in. Trying to kill them. And it got to a point where you have to do what you have to do. I sadly would do the same.. and when they are going towards your kid, your communities kids.. "where are my kids" she said, not just Judith.. you have to save them all. Would never want to do THAT but it gets to a point and sadly.. don't blame her and.. unfortunately If I say god forbid like l'm in a zombie apocalypse 😂but if all those chances I gave aren't working.. I'm sorry I gotta do what I gotta do 😪

@Cleo Griffith She gave them supplies but not nearly enough. It was blatantly stated that it was thanks to the Kingdom that Hilltop survived the worst of the disease they had going around, along with Tara taking more than Alexandria gave. Michonne did offer them to go to Alexandria, because she wasn't willing to let Alexandria do the trade fair, which would be not only for Kingdom but help bridge the distance between all the communities. I love Michonne but she isn't perfect. She made understandable decisions in the aftermath of immense trauma and grief, that still hurt people she loved. She feels guilty for a reason, because she knew she could and should do more, but her fear stopped her.

@angela florez Maggie didn't cause this. The bridge isn't the reason the communities were separated. The bridge just made it easier for trade to come and go which is important but that is separate from what happened here.

Jocelyn was never in trouble. She staged needing help to rob the community and grab its kids. She really didn't think she would see someone from her old life, that much is true. She has clearly done it repeatedly, and Adison figured out that the parents were indeed murdered so the kids could be recruited.

She never "turned on" them, she was practicing isolationism. Cutting Alexandria off from everyone didn't mean she actively worked against them to hurt them.

Not to mention her racket or excuse for the council where Negan & Gabriel & Siddiq pinned down exactly what was going on. The Terminus story was brushed by fast imo, they showed how the ppl we met had been a group like us, arguably better because they were trying to bring people in to build them to help initially until very bad your pain took over and just locked them in the train cars and will repeatedly break the women and whenever they wanted. That then what made the group so ruthless, and I wish that they had actually properly convey that and not thrown as an afterthought in a side comment by Mary and then the after credit scene.

She did help, she just didn't help in the way they wanted her to. She offered let the Kingdom move into Alexandria, but they didn't want to do that. She gave Hilltop medicine and supplies but they weren't satisfied with it so Tara stole more. Michonne didn't want to overextend Alexandria and risk everything after all the trauma that befell being open and welcoming.

She didn't cut them off completely. She restricted entry for brand new survivors and she vetoed traveling across broken terrain unless absolutely necessary. She still wrote to at least Carol and Kingdom which means some travel was still happening between the communities, she gave them medicine just not as much as they wanted, she offered to take all of Kingdom into Alexandria but Carol and Ezekiel declined, she allowed entry for those that she knew who were visiting , and when the new survivors came (Magna's group) she even relented enough to escort them to Hilltop.

I know this is an old comment but I'll still answer. I believe the branding served two functions as a way to indoctrinate the children. First, it teaches them to dehumanize other people (anyone not from their in-group) as if they are animals which in turn allows them to be desensitized about any violence they do against others. Second, it also probably serves as a test to see which of the kids are more susceptible to indoctrination or "learning" as Jocelyn would put. I wouldn't be surprised if kids who couldn't brand others get called "weak" or "broken" and then are summarily killed or abandoned.
