Patrick Saona

We need a custom thumbnail for twd

Blue

I'm glad you all like the thumbnail. Much appreciated 🤝

Mel

This series was something!!!

Katlyn

Not so fun fact….the pile of clothes the hospital workers made stacking all the contaminated stuff? It’s still there. Still. People who have visited the exclusion zone have photographed it. Haunting.

Katlyn

You were saying you were wondering how accurate this show is, my father is a nuclear physicist and he said it’s damn near exactly what happened, excluding the characters. Watch a documentary about Chernobyl after this. It’s equal parts horrifying and fascinating. Also, when your government tells you not to panic, you should absolutely panic.

Shari Todd

Dude with the birthmark is supposed to be Gorbachev - the leader of the Soviet Union in the 80s. Us oldsters remember seeing him on the news all the time - plus that infamous speech with President Reagan saying "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that (Berlin) Wall!)

Peter Shim

No you don’t understand that 18 miles is JUST the explosion, that’s bigger than any nuclear blast ever seen on the planet before and after. The radius of the radiation fallout is much much larger than just the initial explosion. It is an actual miracle that this wasn’t so much worse 🙏

Trina Landeros

This lady made me so mad, every episode. I need Brandon for her lol

Christian Perez

Just so you know Adison, since you said those three men deserve to go down in history: they were awarded the "Order for Courage" and "Hero of Ukraine" awards after what they did. Also, the General that Osafa commented was a "good leader" for measuring the radiation instead of sacrificing one of his men, General Pikalov, was awarded the "Hero of the Soviet Union" award for his efforts. It was not only brave of him, but very smart, because whether he knew this or not, his word could not be questioned by people if he said the radiation was much higher than people wanted to believe, whereas a common soldier could easily be doubted and disregarded. So, by going in, he confirmed without a shadow of a doubt how bad things were, and people had to believe him.

Mel

The fact that we are just( years later) learning about the it let you know the cover up.

Hanna

Everything was contaminated and still radioactive, why you see the real footage of people's homes everything left behind!

Hanna

Oh and if I remember correctly the helicopter crashed cUz blades hit the cables. Wasn't like a radiation thing when I first saw it I thought it just like melted LOL. There is video can find.

Gabi

In Europe, we learn about this event in high-school tbh.

Craig Brown

This picture is FIRE!!!!

jasmin

we knew what you meant when you said and infected and this series very educational pretty sure almost all of us watching learned more than a few things

Loving this so far, can’t wait for more! ❤️

It really is, I hope it's Photoshop and not AI

Every now and then a Chernobyl story hits my LinkedIn or Facebook page (I follow a lot of scientists & science orgs). Those dogs left behind after the evacuation were left to fend for themselves. Today a story popped up about the 'Blue dogs of Chernobyl'.. the mutations of the animals in the area are interesting reads. As a child of the Cold War, Mikhail Gorbachev's scar is etched in my memory. But for the record, I love being an engineer because around the world, scientists & engineers work together to solve these problems. I recently joined the nuclear industry through a start-up, and one of the engineers gave a lecture on their recent visit to a new plant in Slovakia. There is a solemnness in our work offices - I love it. but these disasters- Chernobyl, 3 mile Island and Fukushima are ever-present.

David James

Nah being known as "the foot dude" is crazy

Angel

The thumbnail reminds me of the fighting scene u edited yourself in twd 😭

Crystal

I think I first learned about Chernobyl back in high school (graduated 2009) when I first watched this series I felt my heart drop at how horrible they handled this whole situation.

Brooks Duncan

Ad and Safa were talking on how the nurses and doctors didn’t really wear any form of protection from the radiation. I think by the time they figured out that radiation was the cause, and how significant it was. It was now for the nurses and doctors, help as many people as you can before you eventually fall. Just horrible

Craig Brown

AI or not its amazing... don't care either way!

Kaye Gabrielle

Okay but why does the thumbnail go so hard lol

lily mccann

I hate that the pets were left behind… and worse - I think it’s covered in this series in an episode. Now the animals have reclaimed the area, so it’s kind of poetic. As someone mentioned, they have special mutations. Makeup artist did a good job on that Gorbachev birthmark btw lol. Also, thumbnail is 🔥🔥🔥

Eddy Kubus

Speaking on the would you go into the reactor. I have young 3 kids, and id have to say yes. If my sacrifice can make the world just a little better for them i will do it. It makes me think about the Japanese reactor that was damaged in 2019 and all the elderly people volunteered to repair it since they lived their lives.

KenyBeans

@47:02 yes it is a Federal job called Emergency Planning. It is a part of the Continuity of Operations. Covers weather, physical attacks and pandemic. Some are public and you can read them online.

Nuffinnbutthetide

Funny how all power stems from just boiling water 😂. Its a meme at this point

Cristina

This show is still so peak. Salute to those real life Big 3 and all the other real life people that saved millions 🙏

Megan Rose

Scotland is 2,000(ish) miles away. We were told not to eat beef, lamb, or dairy products as they had been eating grass that may be contaminated. Wild.

Mitzi McCoy

FWIW when evac is life or death they shut down the incoming highway and they reverse the flow of traffic. It’s really worth your time looking up FEMA preparedness suggestions and your local (city, county, state) office of emergency services plans. CERT is the civilian arm of this and is always hungry for volunteers. Community saves lives!

Anarchist Accountant

The part about the woman in the hospital telling people to throw clothes in the basement. That basement of the hospital is today the most radioactive UNSECURED location in the world. To step down there with the contaminated bodies and clothing is a fatal dose of radiation.

Tami Hart

Yes, Gorbachev had a very distinct port wine birthmark on his head. (Former USSR president)

Tami Hart

Works for Tarantino! 😆😆

Tami Hart

Absolutely!! Marie Curie is still radioactive too!! She’s in a lead coffin if I remember correctly

ojore gilkey

High levels of raditon will break down and destroy some forms of metal, and you have to remeber this was in the 86's so it wasnt exactly the top of the line as least not to today's standards. Also it was soviet Russia who by and large struggled in the ways that they did because they had generally inferior technology. Leading largely by pride, was basically the whole reason this incident occurred. Everything in that facility was very old and had issues and was bound to fail. Just like you see in the show. There was a strong since of pride and fear so as far as speaking up about investing resources into things that buricrats cant even understand was not on there agenda. Making Russia look strong, never weak, never making mistakes was there whole motive.

Jonathan Blaze

Wow, even better than the first episode.

Jess Here

You guys made me feel old as hell not knowing Mikhail Gorbachev and his birthmark 🤣 he's the genX version of Putin. Netflix has a miniseries about Fukushima and Three Mile Island. Both are worth watching.

Manospondylus

Aircraft maintenance is based on time not distance, flight hours and such. I don't recall distance ever being a factor considered for wear and tear.
