I've been waiting for YEARS to watch this one. I hear my mom, aunt, & grandma constantly reference this movie and I have never known or really paid attention to what they meant in regards to it. Today is finally that day! Here is my uncut reaction to The Color Purple. LET'S GET IT!!!

"I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it" - Shug Avery. My favorite quote 🥹🤍

Gerald Cormier

yes! Glad this was a solo watch. Takes a certain level of maturity that is sometimes lacking here.

AllyBoo124

My discord was bugging when I tried to watch with you

AllyBoo124

Unrelated we lowkey might need a group tv reaction to the bear one of these days, I think the conversations could be really interesting

La Toya Sheri

Glad I was able to see u watch this live. This is my fav film and was on repeat for me many times before.

AllyBoo124

And Albert is a product of trauma but he loved shug so bad and wanted to marry her so bad but he didn’t love her enough and wasn’t man enough (I really don’t like this phrase all the time but I’m using it for now) to go against his father’s wishes and follow his own heart and marry her and raise his children. He is all types of bad and a coward

Sabrina Shaniece

I literally say this out loud whenever i see the color purple in nature…

Lewis Tuffin

Wsg Adison bro, think you’ll consider picking invincible back up soon?

Marrkaink

right right... now how much of that "maturity" did you find in this video?

everydaynegroes

A healthy amount in my unbiased opinion! 😂 C'mon now you know me, it's all about balance! -Adison

Camillionaire

This was definitely a rite of passage for you Adie! Now, it's time for Life , Friday, Boomerang my guy! I'm not going to time shame you or anything like saying it's been 84 years 😉. 🤭 Btw, It was priceless on The Titanic reaction when you finally got what the 84 years later reference meant 🤣😂. I about died laughing 😂

Camillionaire

I got a third daughter named "Lead" 😂🤣

Jen Bee

It would hurt every time seeing someone call Celie ugly even if it were true. But what always kills me is how untrue it is, because Celie is absolutely beautiful, inside and out. But I never see any reactors remark on that, so it did my heart good, Adison, to hear you call her smile beautiful and say she isn’t ugly. Like, FINALLY, somebody said it! 🥲

Despicable_Dee

Crazy i never knew this was a Steven Spielberg movie. Some of the music definitely gives Jurassic park 😅

Camillionaire

Ad was severely traumatized within the first 20 minutes of the film. 🫂 This is why they were telling you to be emotionally ready for this film Adie 🎥. It is one of the greats though. The sum of all its parts makes up for it in the end. 🌈🌝🌅

OnlyPlenty

Adam’s wife is the little girl that was friends with Olivia

Mon’a

Addison you need to watch the wiz next if you’ve never seen it before.

Roland Giles

Heh! Out of all the crazy, memorable scenes in this movie, the one that sticks out for me the most is that bad - and I mean, BAD - lip-synching of "God Is Trying To Tell You Something". Almost as funny as when Oprah beat the hell outta Harpo.

Candice T.

Adison, since you’re doing reactions to things that are on the longer side now you might as well just give in and watch Hamilton finally! (I’m gonna die on this hill)

Dee

Precious is a one time only watch, it's traumatising.

Brudaski

You should start watching the show Snowfall if you haven’t watched it yet. It’s a great series.🔥

kraekay

I named my dog Celie because of this movie and how beautiful and powerful this story is. I am SO excited to watch your reaction!

kraekay

Also, the new one is the musical version, which is my absolute favorite musical of all time. You should definitely check it out too!

Nene Cam

After watching this I feel you should watch Eve’s Bayou

AJtheBAE

Shug was telling Celie that she’s a virgin when it comes to passion. Not a literal virgin 😂

Donna LaPorte

I know you won't see this bro... But THANK YOU for appreciating this film and in particular Adam saying "Ma ma". Love you my guy. You get it.

patricepsg1

What’d you give mama? An eye patch? Pleeeease adison!!!! 😭😭😭

PatronPioneer

When Sophia talked about having to fight her brothers, dad and uncles. ..she meant sexually....maybe that missed you.

Jessica

Hello EDN! I love the channel. For Colored Girls, Precious, and my God, Higher Learning AHHHHH. Brother Brandon will probably dump on the T.V.

Jessica

Movie Suggestions: 1. The Long Kiss Goodnight (Sam L.Jackson) 2. Mindhunters (LL Cool J).

Vic

Yes, I’m here again asking for Two Can Play That Game 🙏

Vic

LMAO because I was so confused when you said “Stephen Spielberg made horror films” I was like huh?? 😭😭😭

Re: the baby at the wedding In the book, kid was crying & Sofia nursed him at the altar. Sofia had a bad ass family (though her pops wasn't shit) and she could hunt with a bow and arrow. Trust and believe she was wasn't worried about what ANYBODY had to say. The movie is a masterpiece, but it left out a LOT (including Harpo becoming a man in his own right and Albert's redemption arc) If you loved this, consider reading the novel. Re: "you sho is ugly" That's EXACTLY what it was, Adison. Mister had been running down Celie to Shug before they even met. Re: Harpo & Sofia at the Juke Joint Adison, you are correct again! There WAS another child in the book - a girl named Henrietta. But when Harpo says, "I got six kids with this crazy woman" towards the end of the novel, Sofia shoots back, "Five." Like I said, Sofia gave NO damns! Re: Celie and Shug after the juke scene In the book, Shug is bisexual and Celie appears to be a lesbian. I say "appears" because Celie shows no sexual interest in anybody except Shug, though she describes all men as looking like frogs to her. Shug and Celie were lovers and in the follow-up novel (The Temple of My Familiar), they lived together as wives into old age and died close together (a month apart, I think). Re: Harpo & Sofia's children Harpo and Squeak raised them. Squeak's role was greatly reduced - she even tried to help have Sofia freed (to devastating results). Basically, Sofia and Squeak came to an understanding that they'd both fallen in love with an ain't-shit dude. IIRC, when Squeak eventually left (she got with Buster), Sofia raised Squeak's children w/Harpo. Re: Celie's fertility. Recall what was said in the beginning. "And God done fixed her. You can do everything just like you want to and she ain’t gonna make you feed it or clothe it." Re: the ending scene Adison, you nailed it again! In the book, the children (and Tashi) spoke fluent English. And it made no sense for them NOT to, as Nettie, Samuel and Corrine were all English speakers. This is just a bad change here, as was the scene of the children getting scars. Also, when you said that it feels good doing good instead of evil? Won't spoil that in case you read the book, but...spot on AGAIN.

Jaye Daniels

And y'all will be together until "death do us part"!

Jaye Daniels

Celie really nailed it when she said that if Albert wasn't old Mister's "boy", he could have come up to be half a decent man.

Menia Battle

This is how men acted back in this time

We watched this movie in school, my senior year. I think it was in my history class. We watched Glory too. I had already seen it before then tho.

JB

No we mean “most” 🫩

Tata Vega sang the hell out of those songs

DFROMDAQ

That’s heavy weight champion Buster Douglas with Oprah in the juke joint.
