One comment that has stayed with me, which I felt the same way.. that Otto’s death felt very anticlimactic? Awkward? But that that was the point— that the dance of dragons denies almost everyone a satisfying ending. I mean they’re literally at war. “The Dance is written as a tragedy, so many important deaths are abrupt, uncomfortable, or emotionally unsatisfying on purpose. Instead of celebrating victory, the story emphasizes how hollow it has become.” The post said! I mean it’s the fall of the Targaryens and dragons for a reason… 😭💔

Rhaenyra had every reason to want Otto executed. He started everything. He manipulated Alicent into marrying Viserys when she was only around 15, which destroyed Alicent and Rhaenyra’s friendship and created the rivalry that led to the Dance of the Dragons. He spent years undermining Rhaenyra’s claim and plotting to put Aegon on the throne despite Viserys repeatedly naming Rhaenyra as his heir. As soon as Viserys died, Otto and the Green Council moved immediately to seize the throne. Otto even ordered the Commander of the Kingsguard to kill Rhaenyra and her family before they could respond, but the Commander refused, cast aside his white cloak, and walked away. From Rhaenyra’s perspective, Otto was the man who started everything that unfolded.

The colour change in Alicents clothing was a fantastic touch. She wore blue before she married the king and after her fatherwas sent away she changed to green, the high towers banner colour, now if you notice after her making that deal with rhaneyra shes back wearing blue.... love that little attention to detail.

Call me crazy but I have no sympathy for Alicent... And the thing is, as a Daddy's Girl myself, I should be able to find it... But I simply cannot. Far as I'm concerned this was a step to them being even. Alicent has screwed Rhaenyra's father, after laying the groundwork to do so hours after her mother and brother were laid to rest,is screwing her ex-side piece, misinterpreted her father's last words (atp I think on purpose)thus stealing her throne,been directly indirectly responsible for 3 of her children's deaths... And so far the only losing Alicent has done is a grandchild and her father... (I'll believe Aemond is dead when I see it) And technically,as long as Healena, the baby, and herself can walk away, Rhaenyra's kept her promise as well... I don't recall Alicent ever bargaining for her father's safety and I think like Daemon said she has a knack for conspiring and we all know Otto on the loose would mean Alicent running to him and him figuring out a way to put the 3rd son on the throne and getting his job back as HOTK, and Alicent would be very instrumental to the task.So, basically he had to go and I'm really not mad about it.

Alicent also promised aegon to rhaenyra and she cannot take throne without killing aegon so she had to kill otto cause he was present in his coronation…

Rhaenyra did have to do it though, or else everyone watching would see her as weak. She killed Otto in place of Aegon (since that part of Alicent's plan clearly didn't work) so that her claim of the throne would be legitimized. If Alicent was prepared to give Aegon's life but not her father's (who for all Alicent knew could've been already dead), that'd be a little backwards to me.

Rhaenyra has worked to avoid bloodshed for seasons now. Saying at the beginning of the ep that she acts like only her children matter isn't right. She (almost) naively believed Alicent when everyone said she shouldn't because she wanted Aemond and Vhagar away to reduce bloodshed when she went to claim the throne. Also, we've seen her suffer a horrific stillbirth and watched her lose Luke too! This is the 3rd child she's lost and everyone in the room who let Jace go knew that!

Emma Darcy, they did their thing in that scene. The sorrow was felt and I couldn’t help but cry with Rhaenyra. This is the third child she’s lost 😞 and she was still reasonable and graceful to Jace’s enablers. Award winning scene.

Rhaneyra absolutely had to do that and I cheered for it. We could end the show right here honestly. Otto Hightower was a slimy clout chaser who pimped out his only daughter to the king, took advantage of the king’s illness to set up his house having control of the throne. Raised little monsters to sit said throne, was fired as hand because of the horrible job he did raising those boys, then got captured. He made his bed.

Just a reminder - Addam and Alyn (illegitimate sons of Corlys) are his sons while Baela and Rhaena are his grandchildren. Laenor (formerly married to Rhaenyra) sailed away and Laena (formerly married to Daemon) is now passed. Laena was the mother of Baela and Rhaena. So, given that, Alyn would actually be Baela's uncle not brother. Addam (with black hair who now rides the dragon Seasmoke) is also their uncle.

Jace was the heir to the throne they are actively fighting for her to win, they were absolutely wrong for letting him go into battle and defy her orders. Otto was the opposition in getting her throne taken from her, OFC he was gonna get his head taken! And ik yall like to crack jokes and it’s apart of who yall are as reactors (yall be having me weak lol) but by being funny yall miss out on immersing yourselves in the sadness/emotions the scenes are trying to convey

I am glad everyone is calling Addison out in the comment section. Dude really needs to go back to watch the show 5 more times. 😂 I liked Otto as a character. But the audacity for you to say Rhaenyra didn't have to kill him? He is the one that started this entire conflict with the political scheming. Also, Rhaenyra has every right to grieve how she did. Her son was the crown prince. Do y'all not understand the concept of politics in Game of Thrones? It's not that she held her son above other sons in the realm. It is the fact that he was her heir to the iron throne and it has been noted many times in this universe that a heir is necessary to ensure continued stability. With Jace dead, it can further emboldens others who share Targaryen blood. For example, Aegon or Aemomd's claim to the throne is stronger to some houses. You don't need to compare real world issues to a fictional world every time you don't like something. Sometimes you need to put yourself in these fantasy worlds and have an imagination beyond the one you live in. One last thing, y'all still keep talking about how you think Rhaenyra should give up the throne. Again, this is a fantasy world. Aegon the Conquer had a dream which proved to be prophecy regarding the dark cold winter coming from the distant North. The song of Ice and Fire. This prophecy was passed down for generations to Targaryen heirs to the throne. Visarys shared his dream to Rhaenyra. This isn't always about power or clout for some Targaryens. Go back to recap on Targaryen history. Some of them are known to be dreamers who see future events. Helaena is one of the Targaryens who has visions. Go recap some scenes with her. She speaks in riddles sometimes. She is a dreamer.

Otto had to get got. It could have been cleaner but it is what it is. He caused this uprising and sowed the seeds when they were young. Speaking of Sowing some seeds Daemon took full advantage of being lord commander of the gold cloaks and it paid off. What was once a slight to Daemon via Otto, has worked in his favor. Excellent stuff.
