Crazy the test was really to see how good John is at following orders because they want Hal gone. The Guardians are so flawed and reckless fr lol they're purposely tryna make Johh resent Hal so he'd take care of Hal for them.

Guys the reason this episode is low rated is because it does the most damage to the lore so how all other lanterns are selected is when one lantern falls the rings fly off find someone with strong willpower and ask them if they want to join the Corp having john be selected the way he is in this show, as if he was selected due to some prejudice against his race when the Corp is made up of thousands of lanterns from all over the universe easily one of the most diverse groups in all of DC is extremely jarring to ppl who know the lore there is also backlash for the "woke" content things like John's mother saying stuff like You ask a black man in America if hes scared, and his dad saying they dont notice us down here or up there i think that backlash over that off of face value is ridiculous they are well written characters who have a certain perspective that rings true with ppl who understand that perspective and thats great but the guardians would NEVER change theyre selection protocol over 1 biengs experience not saying they shouldn't but thats kind of the point they are extremely flawed, arrogant, and closed minded beings Sinestro's entire reason (in the books) for going against them is because he discovered a way to harness the yellow power of Fear and wanted to use it as a weapon and they completely shut him down and outcast him he conqured his planet using Fear became a dictator and attempted a coup because he believed the guardians arrogance and methods where failing the universe theyre arrogance and closed minded approach to things created theyre biggest threat
