LATEST MODEL HEREThis page was the original release page, which I eventually stopped keeping up, but many updates went into it since

----

Hot threaded insert

m3 x 4mm Length x 5mm Diameter - https://amzn.to/3Z1Rwej

Or

m3 x 4mm Length x 4.6mm Diameter - https://amzn.to/42tuoHu

(a few older designs require 5mmOD)

----I'm not going by rev anymore but simply by dates, if you need old archive file let me know, but would highly recommend using the latest models.May ~ June 2023

Updated backplate, with front slot ADXL removed (wasn't used often, looked great but was more troublesome than helping), instead added mounting point on the top (with heat inserts), on which you can mount an ADXL345 directly

WAMBAM backplate compatibility, allowing top mounted linear rail, or just simply a alternative linear mounting option, with metal belt holder.

backplate has a bigger arch above the fans to fit the larger sunon fan more conformably

I've been updating models adding them to the zip, either by request or when I get a little moment. the major work is done, just the conversion to latest model and exporting the files takes time.

bambulab hotend mount is improved and compatible with previous bambu mainbody/backplate

Creality Spider v3 pro, has top mounted model for the linear rail model

FAN MOD, where the right fan cover is swapped with a tweaked printed fan cover (non destructive), but requires a dedicated duct and dedicated main body model, done by request for now, but will eventually add this mod to all hotend.

dual 5020 fan model on linear rails  now exist and I can convert any apollo supported hotend this setup (currently only spider v3 pro), found in the "Custom Apollo" zip

Apollo CoreXY (targeted for Ender Mercury ZeroG mod) now exist and I can convert any apollo supported hotend this setup (currently mosquito and rapido exist), found in the "Custom Apollo" zip

Rev44 - aprilRestructure of the file hierarchy, newer ducts

Rev43

Main body rev7 for nozzle cam PCB (updated almost everything, except one or two) - get camera mount from camera post, forgot to add it, will do on next round

New duct prototypes for rev 6 and 7, with larger opening.

updated a few other hotend that were not updated to rev 6, they are now at rev 7

lockdown alternative main body model for linear rail only that rigidify the main body fully, zero play left on the entire Apollo, it becomes one solid rock. Drawback is it takes longer to separate it from the backplate, but even with that model you can leave it without securing it and will be  as the non lockdown one.  Which is still very rigid.

new belt holder for linear rail, adds screw point for lockdown model and a couple point to attach an ADXL345 ( not sue if it's a good idea to mount an adxl there but will give test it out. By Al of these extra mounting point can be used for other accessories

Rev42

Rev 6 of the main body/ducts for most hotends (rev4~5 ducts will fit and work, just not visually in line ), rev4~5 files are still in the zip (under clearly labeled subfolder) - nothing currently functionally better compared to rev5 of the main body, just style. Only baseline height and UHF ducts for now, other odd ones will come soon.

Backplates are unchanged in term of compatibility between rev 4~5~6 of the main body

All rev 5 and rev 6 fan slots are wider (to accommodate slightly wider fan like sunon), rev6 improves a bit on it, and widens the tabs slot (based on recent feedback)

updated APUS extruder backplate for XG and Rapido hotendRev 6 on the left / Rev 4~5 on the right

Rev41

Beacon3d scanner/probe support (beacon3d.com) - works on X linear rail setup only.

New ducts for it, with back mounting point (2mm up, baseline and UHF)

(I haven't made the beacon mount yet for the 2mm higher ducts, but its no issue and will make it soon)

setting up a "group buy" on discord to try and get a 24~48h coupon (join if interested) - it's a long shot, but willing to try, just going to contact them saying we have X number of people interested that would buy it in the next 48h ( from the time we get the coupon ) and if they would be willing to offer a coupon ( I have no affiliation with them, so may not even happen, but it's worth a shot)

Rev 40

Rev 5.0 of the main body - dual vertical cable channel aka dual ears

inspired by a request on the ApolloMini

Not added to all hotend yet, feel free to request, but most common ones are supported.

100% compatible with current backplate/ducts/etc

APUS support for Dropeffect XG model

Rev 39.1

Added other Spider hotend support (round one, look at picture inside the hotend folder) - untested

Taichi now support dual Sherpa mini

Added wide fan main body alternative for multiple hotends (seems like 5015 Sunon fans are wider than average), feel free to request it if I didn't make it for your hotend.

Rev 38.1

tweaked ducts (2mm higher, baseline and UHF) to be easier to print (no need to reprint)

baseline ducts are now the one with 2mm clearance (instead of 4mm)

added side mounted M8 probe mount

Rev 37

Thanks to your patronage I was able to get the Fusion360 subscription, making things a bit more efficient - So wanted to thank you so very much!!!

I removed old models of the Apollo from the updated zip, but will leave an ARCHIVE zip (rev36) just in case, which has older revisions within it.

This is Rev4.2 tweaks to the main body and backplate (backward compatible with rev4.1 and rev4 of the body/ducts, which has been around since Rev26 of the Apollo zip )

Updated the heat insert holes ( looks like a crosshair), which broke my fusion file, so spent the last couple weeks fixing it and breaking it again, and fixing it once more (has 1200 timeline steps so it takes time)

Hotend model is now stamped on the body and backplate

Added a little squirrel hidden stamp for fun

tweaked the backplate front, just for aesthetic

Removed Ender 6 mounting point for a cleaner look, and less confusion (can always add them for people wanting to test it on ender6, still unsure of compatibility )

Will be adding support to BMG, sherpa micro and Vz-Hextrudort-Low to all hotend (if compatibility allow), and of course the "classics", orbiter 1.5/2.0 and sherpa mini

Everyday (if I can) I'll be adding rev4.2 of main body and backplates (over 300 files to export), it will stay as revision 37, and will just add round1,2,3... , until I update all the hotends then jump to rev38.

list of currently updated/added hotend to rev4.2 for the main body (along with updated backplate):

1of2 has Creality and Phaetus, 2of2 has E3d, Mellow, bambulab and others

Added a few STEP files, probe, and E3dv6

If you are planning on (re)printing feel free to let me know which model, otherwise I will be working on this in a random order

Rev36

New belt mount for linear rail (same that was posted separately)

front flat duct for 2mm lower for better visibility

front flat duct for 2mm lower model with back cutout to be removable on ender3 stock plate

All main body have been updated with new heat insert hole profile (labeled rev4.1), to support 4.6mmØ OD threaded heat inserts, now going to export all the backplate and accessories with this same profile (that will be in rev37).

I'm hoping it still works with 5mmØ insterts, if not, in the "old revision" subfolder you will find the rev4.0 of the main body which definitely works with 5mmØ OD

(my printer is down currently so haven't been able to try myself yet)

Rev35

by request - Added support (stock plate / wheel only) to Mosquito for creality (can add rail support by request ) - BMG / Orbiter2 / Sherpa mini - untested, may have minor issues as it's a weird hotend, if so please report, thanks -

by request, for wheel setup, added normal duct with back cutout to be removable without apollo disassembly (need print support)

Rev34

fixed UHF left duct

added CRtouch for UHF setup

Rev33

broke the zip in two piece instead of by hotend brands

The BLtouch and CRtouch are slightly taller, lowering the probe by 1.5mm and 2mm respectively

also added quick print 2mm spacers for the BLtouch/CRoutch instead of using nuts (you can also scale them in z in your slicer as needed)

Rev32

zip was getting to big, so had to break it down in parts, you'll need the CORE zip and one of the HOTEND zip for your setup

updated side mount bltouch/crtouch/m12 probe to work on wheel setup

Rev 31

Added support to Creality Spider Pro (orbiter 2.0 and sherpa, other extruder by request)

included some step file (which were posted here separately)

Rev28

Vz-Hextrudort-Low Exrtuder support - Mosquito

This is not common enough, so that will only be done by request.

https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DEI30F1  (should come back in stock someday) - can possibly be printed ( https://github.com/VzBoT3D/Vz-HextrudORT/tree/main/STLs%20and%20BOM ) and uses guts of BMG from what I understand.

Rev27

new left duct option with more visibility

Led strip 12m x 30mm mount (needs double sided tape)

mgn9h for stock hotend

LGX lite adapter (use sherpa backplate)

overall cleanup of the zip, and updated notes

Mellow Fly sht 36 mount for orbiter 2 and sherpa (based on https://github.com/MapleLeafMakers/FLY-SHT36_Mounts ), with new chain mount to fit it.

and probably a few other minor things that I added but forgot what they are

Rev26 - start of rev4 of the main body/duct

Included rev4 middle block model and rev4 duct for all hotends, and UHF ducts (rev3 is in "old subfolders")

To install these, you first slide it flush from the back for the "hook" to grab on then screw it in the fron

Rev25 - latest rev3 of the main body/duct

Stock hotend backplate improvements (used to be based on Revo CR, but now fully custom)

Included early rev4 middle block model and rev4 duct (for now in subfolders as they are still untested as of now) (rev4 as in 4th major revision with of the middle block)

M12 probe side mount

Added BMG mount for stock and revo CR

Bowden adapter (using Orbiter 2.0) added to zip (unchanged from other post)

Minor fix to main body on all model, front fan bottom mounting point were off vertically in relation to the top mounting points by 0.6mm, small enough that it wasn't noticed or reported, but noticed it today, and fixed it

rev18 -> 21 - Start of rev3 of the main body/duct

NF Crazy Plus

Mosquito MAGNUM

updated middle block (technically Rev3 for my own internal revision number), from the separate post, mostly just side probe, and zip ties, so no need to reprint if you don't need that.

middle block has many zip ties holes.

Side mounted BLtouch / CRtouch

Updated duct to match the new middle block (old ducts will still work), new ones are should be a teeny tiny bit stronger on the front clip, they are otherwise the same

rev4 and rev5:

Overall cleanup of the model (removed unnecessary mount point for rail model, and removed the left mounting hole behind the fan)

tweaked from fan to hotend opening on some model.

Dragonfly BMO

UHF ducts for dragon UHF and Rapido UHF (will very likely be worked on some more, but should be usable as is, and will be easy to swap later)

----

I think it has reached a point where it is safe to use, at least from a general point f view, new models with added hotend may have issues, in most cases shoudl be workable, so we are now entering the BETA phase (will delete the zip from the older post, and eventually deleted the post themselves)

And just like the Saturn, heat inserts M3 x 4mm long x 5mm OD

And M3 screws of different length, M3x6, M3x8, M3x10, M3x12, M3x16, M3x20, M3x25, M3x30 may be used depending on your setup.

Only generic adxl is supported: 16x20mm with 15mm M3 mounting hole separation.

----

Screw behind left fan isn't needed and hard/impossible access anyway, so no heat insert needed on the linear rail  backplate either

Order of install

- heat inserts

start with main block aka fan-block

- led lights (wire will go behind the right back side of the front fan)

- front fan (secure bottom screws) - make sure to not pinch led wires

- left fan (secure bottom screw)

- bltouch

- route wires to go behind the right fan

- install right fan (secure bottom screw)

- install ducts, and secure each with screw

that's it! that whole block is one piece, and easy enough to remove all at once to check hotend

now the backplate

- don't forget the heat inserts for adxl if using those

- mount the adxl345 if using it

- make sure you understand how the hotend will be secured, easier to understand before the plate is mounted

- mount the printed backplate, for stock backplate and stock like hotend (dragonfly BMS included) make sure the screws are long enough to "bite" into the backplate. for linear rail just make sure the screws are the right length, not too long/not too short.

- mount your hotend (some hotend you have to install then 180 degree , rapido make sure wire come out the back right at an angle)

- add fan block carefully while routing hotend wires. shoudl have a small snap to hold itself.

- secure with the top two screws, and top side fans (so if you have any issues with your hotend those are the four screws to remove the fan block + extruder)

- figure out ptfe length between hotend and extruder. roughly the same as saturn (there are minor vertical adjustment on some hotend position, like the dragon)

- mount extruder and secure.

----

Supported extruder:

squirrelf3d

ah sorry about that, good to know, Let me see what I can come up with

Daniel Dyntar

Not your fault, seller refunded money. Thx for help, if I can use nohole type, it will be great... Nice day. Daniel

squirrelf3d

Glad the seller refunded you. In rev37 round 8 that I just uploaded, I also added a mount for your 7bit led that will hopefully work. Under Core files -> accessories -> led -> 7bit jewel with soldering pads Give it a try and let me know! I made a model using a nut, and the other just screws into the plastic. (also included a STEP file)

Olivier Fontaine

Do you know if the CR10 V2 and V3 are supported just like the CR10? I know the gantry plate is mostly similar other than a small feature to access the X axis limit switch. Thanks!

squirrelf3d

The CR10 v2/v3 stock plate is missing major mounting point. But the easy fix is to get an ender3/pro backplate (cheap on amazon/aliexpress), If you want to go with linear rails, then shouldn't be a problem and should work well as the belt setup is still basically like an ender3

Olivier Fontaine

Perfect! I'll go that way! Thanks for the answer

squirrelf3d

and if you need any tweaking in term of X endstop, let me know

Olivier Fontaine

I can’t find which rail to get, I was going to order MGN12H, is that okay?

squirrelf3d

that's more than ok that's exactly the one to get (MGN12H), just need to make sure the length is good. on ender3 with a 235x235 bed (220x220 printable area) it needs 300mm long rails. I believe the CR10 is larger if I remember correctly.

Olivier Fontaine

Yeah I’m pretty sure it would need at least 400mm

squirrelf3d

yeah that sounds about right! Also you probably already know, but just in case and just to clarify you don't need the ender3 metal backplate when going with rails. The Apollo mounts directly onto the MGN12H rail carriage.

Daniel Dyntar

Hi, where to join Beacon3D group buy. Pls link. Thx. DD

squirrelf3d

Sounds good will add you to the count. Still a long shot, haven't contacted them yet, want a large enough number as leverage to get a discount. But if it goes through I'll PM first before posting it. ( in case they put a limit count to the discount )

squirrelf3d

As for discord it's in through your patreon user account settings, there should be access that way.

TjackStefan

Not sure what the cause is, but it feels like there isn't the same amount of air coming out of the left fan compared to the right one. Tried switching to another and its the same

squirrelf3d

There should be a little less air pressure coming out of the right one since the right fan isn't as close to the duct output, so there is a small difference. This was more noticeable with the Saturn, which is why the overall ducts are bigger on the Apollo to reduce the air friction and flow restrictions. But in then end they still balance correctly for air to just go down, if you stop one fan the air column just shoots to ones side, but with both running, the air column just goes down vertically to the print below the nozzle. But almost sound like you are saying it's the opposite on your setup, if so then something else is wrong, you didn't wire the fans in series right ? They should be connected in parallel.

TjackStefan

I think I might have figured out what it is, I think it might be the wattage. On amazon the left fan which is a Winsinn 5015 is 2.4w and the other random brand is 3.6w.

squirrelf3d

oh different fan model make total sense, even at similar RPM slight different in fan blades shape themselves can make a difference in pressure

David Duncan

Hi, Great work Squirrelf. I've recently joined and and I want to print out the ApolloLander for my Ender3. Just wondering if there are assembly instructions somewhere, or should I just look at the instructions for the SaturnOrbiter. My setup will be using wheels, the Orbiter 2 and stock hotend.

squirrelf3d

I'm planning on making one, but been low on the to do list as most setup are straightforward. There are text files in the zip with some info and some renders for threaded heat inserts location ( which are now also visually noticeable in hand as they have a little crosshair ) But you'll find out that it's pretty intuitive ( definitely more so than the saturn, you can still take a glance at the Saturn doc but don't follow to closely but you will likely find so good info, and trust your intuition) The major things for the Apollo are 1/built and secure the backplate with hotend onto the printer ( two long enough hotend screws going through hotend, printed backplate and metal backplate if on stock wheels ) and a side screw into the backplate ( screwed from the front on ender3/3pro and from the back on ender3v2 + heatinsert ) For stock hotend since the tube is hard to slide in and out prep that first and have about 8-10mm ( actual length needed is closer to 7mm above the top of the Apollo ) of tube sticking out of the top of the Apollo backplate with hotend in place. 2/separately build the main body/ducts, fans and any underside accessories ( led and or camera ) and probe 3/Attach that mainbody/fan block to the backplate/hotend and secure it with two screws on top. Add the remaining two screws securing the side fan top screws ( which doubles as securing the left side probe) 4/ trim the ptfe tube between hotend and extruder to the correct length ( just place you extruder on top and whatever that gap is, chop that amount off ) and secure your extruder Depending on the extruder and it's orientation ( orbiter 2 with motor back model of the backplate ) you can separate the main block without having to remove the extruder. So it's only 4 screws to get full access to your hotend at any time. But if you have any doubts even very minor ones don't hesitate to contact me ( DM or discord )

David Duncan

Thanks for the quick and detailed response.

Victor

I'm currently running the Mars Orbiter and I was looking to upgrade to the Apollo; what piqued my interest was the inductive probe that in this design is mounted behind the hotend fan. I am using a Dragonfly BMO that unfortunately does not seem to be supported at the moment.

squirrelf3d

The inductive probe would preferably have to be an M8 one, the M12 ended up being too long, not impossible but very impractical. I wanted a capacitive M8 but didn't find one to use with G10FR4 surface I use for petg. And the BMO I can add support today. (edit: work is done will export tomorrow)

Richard

Would you be able to support the Rapido UHF (in UHF configuration)?

Victor

awesome, thank you for the swift response! I will have to figure something out for the 12mm probe, and I'll also look for some 8mm ones. thanks again!

squirrelf3d

Sorry one more day, fusion is giving me trouble. Tweaked a few things and broke more stuff that I have to fix before I can export.

Richard

Thanks for the quick response! Excited to print the final result

Charly

Would you be able to support the Mosquito hotend?

squirrelf3d

Yes I can do that! I'll try to do it this week otherwise by the weekend :)

Charly

Great, thank you very much! I'd love to go for the direct rail mount option but I have MGN9H and judging by the renders it looks like you're using MGN12H, any chance to have an MGN9H option ?

squirrelf3d

Latest update has the ducts for UHF. They will be tweaked at a later date, but are fully usable now. Also added an untested bltouch front fan mount for it that I will likely tweak asap. if you need a crtouch mount let me know. (but I'll include it on the next round of update anyway)

squirrelf3d

latest round has BMO support, but not for the 8/12mm probe yet, had to fix all the other stuff first. But I will add 12/8mm mount to test it out. I also want to use a probe myself. Now that I don't have magnets anymore (had some in the early alpha) 12mm probe may not be as bad as I made it sound

squirrelf3d

mosquito being attached on top should not be a problem at all so will do one for mgn9h :)

squirrelf3d

rev4 zip, the duct for UHF had screw length issues. so make sure to get the ones from rev5

Charly

Awesome, can't wait to try it out! Thank you again :)

JR

Any update on support for Mosquito/NF Crazy? I'd love to try this new printhead out :)

Charly

I'll give it a try this weekend, thank you!! And I see that you've even included the MGN9H version, awesome!

Adam Kovařík

Would you be able to support Revo Voron ? Or is ther any significant downside compared to Revo CR ?

squirrelf3d

Yes I can add support to it. I had a backlog request for it, so was going to eventually happen but can move it up the todo list. No idea between the two I never tried any Revo.

Mario

Hi Squirrelf, great work! I started to print the parts and I discovered that the file: Dragon ST - HF - e3-e5 stock backplate - Orbiter2.0 - e3_backplate_Orbiter2.0_back_motor.stl is missing the 2 holes for the extruder mount. Please fix it in the next release.

squirrelf3d

So sorry about that and thanks for letting me know! I thought i had caught them all, I'll fix it right away. ( fusion keeps betraying me )

squirrelf3d

New revision is up ! Turns out I had already fixed those in my file when I fixed the e3dv6 from rev16. just had not noticed they were missing it in the dragon.

Евгений Поправка

hi! my printers are running bmg extruders and I curious is it possible to use bmg with apollo somehow? They work fine for me so I don't see a reason to replace morots\convert to sherpa now, but want to go with linear rails and mosquito

squirrelf3d

I haven't yet made a mount for it, but definitely can work on one.

Евгений Поправка

and another question about mosquito magnum, should there be any kind of obstruction in the duct for extended melt zone? never seen anyone use it

squirrelf3d

Yes there needs to be one for the magnum style. Will make one if that's what you have. The dragon HF has the same concept compared to the ST.

Евгений Поправка

O thanks! Is it a big change for incorporating bmg? I am working on converting ender to rails… you are fast

Robert Taylor

Is there a guide for how to install the linear rails on an Ender 3 v2 and what parts we need to buy?

squirrelf3d

You'll need about twelve M3x8 bolts, and same amount of t-nuts ( makes sure they are M3 and for 2020 extrusion ). As for the linear rail you'll need 300mm long MGN12H ( H is for the size of the carriage ), prefer stainless steel rail as they won't rust as easily if at all. I'll make a dedicated post to help out. Until then you can join the discord if you haven't and myself or other will happily give you a hand.
