"Where are early access audios?" I hear you asking. "Didn't Velvet say they would be out unless she got hit by lightning?"

Well, good news! I did not get hit by lightning! Thanks, lucky stars!

Bad news...

(Please excuse potato photo quality, my phone was whittled from a Ponderosa pine by a prospector in 1848.)

My recording space shares a wall with a bathroom, and one corner is up against a shower specifically. Wednesday morning, while I was sitting down to work, water started cheerfully spurting from between panels of acoustic foam.

"Huh!" I said to myself. "That's weird! Why is that happening?"

I went to pull down the foam panel to see what was up.

And the drywall fell off.

It fell off.

It fell the fuck off.*

I blinked at it for a few seconds, then gently pulled up the corner of another panel. More wall flopped away and hit the floor with a soggy fump.

It was around the sixth panel that I realized my week was not going to go the way I hoped.

Turns out there was a pinhole leak and the drywall behind the shower was...not? I mean, I knew my walls were thin, but I was sort of laboring under the impression they were at least 90% wall? 80% at the outside?

Nah. The "drywall" behind the shower was mostly repair fabric, patching plaster and foam board, which has been slowly turning to gloppy oatmeal behind my sound treatment. You may know this particular shortcut as "the cheap flipper/landlord special." I assume the person responsible is in league with the devil, and I will be hunting them for sport at my earliest convenience. Stay tuned for "The Most Dangerous Game: Terrible Handyman Edition!"

I have no idea how long repairs will take, especially with everything else going on. I've spent my free time over the last couple days moving everything to the other side of the space, cleaning up, and taking more of the Not-Wall down so someone can come in and fix stuff whenever. There will be a resulting slight dip in audio quality for a bit just because part of the room is no longer treated. My production schedule is also haywire -- or, more than it was, anyway. (Today's public audio will hit early access tonight, and YouTube tomorrow, ftr.)

But it's okay. I shall persevere! Streaks of terrible luck have to end sometime!

...they do have to end, right?

Right?

(ó﹏òq)*With apologies to Ron White, it's been a long week

Oh my jeez dude that's horrible. I hope things aren't a nightmare to fix or a fortune to fund, and that the landlord gets their comeuppance. Happy valentines day πŸ₯΄πŸ˜

Drunkmonkey

As a monkey with a terrible run of bad luck in the last 3 weeks, my heart goes out to you sweetheart. I hope your landlord figures their junk out. Now for the joke that might break the seriousness, this is why I recommend against water cooling computers lol.

Drunkachino

Ah shit, get some floor fans pointed at that wall, last thing you need is mold.... It'll get better, keep your chin up. We're rooting for ya.

Unicornosaurus

That really sucks, had the same type of thing happen in my last apartment, raccoons had dug up some roof shingles above my place and didn't know anything was wrong until I realized the carpet was kinda soggy, lucky I was working construction at the time so I was able to get some off-cuts of wood and and drywall to fix it up before I had to replace the carpet.

Oh VV that is so awful - I'm so sorry. 😒 Don't worry about us, you've got good reason to be busy and hopefully things get better soon. That landlord better be fixing things ASAP, because that sort of damage can be considered a legal issue due to negligence and risk to you. Might be worth looking into your local housing authority, if possible.

The gloppy oatmeal imagry was gross but powerful. Sorry to hear about the continued bad luck, in my experience the universe has to tire out eventually from continuously kicking ya while yer down. Things will improve very soonℒ️, just you wait and see, Boss!

That valve is connectedwith sharkbite fittings. While they are to code and perfectly legal to install ( in mich) they are prone to leak when moved back and forth, if. The shower valve is properly attached and secured this shouldn't normally be an issue. That aside i cannot help but wonder why the put a sharkbite valve on pex lines in the first place, pex is as plug and play as plubing gets. Oh well. Id recommendrunning a bead of clear silicone caulking around the trim plate and and tub spout if it is a tub/shower, it will prevent water from water from getting behind there if it runs down the tile.

Battlizer

If you do need any advice i am a plumber and can point you in the right direction. It is the least i can do for someone who provides audios that have helped me more than id like to admit.

Joseph Brown

Yeesh, that is awful. Sorry to hear that Vanilla. Take a break if you need it to clean everything up. You don't have to feel pressured on the audios if you need more time.

OrangeMarvin

I respect how you can turn all this frustrating BS into a very entertaining writeup.

ChaplainBald

Man that f*ing sucks. No need to apologize Vel. Since the wall fell off, the pipes have been leaking for a good while and that wall has to be replaced. Drying is no longer an option. It could be your phones camera, but to my eye it looks like there's some blak mold already growing there.

Crispy Donut

Gotta admire Velvet still having a good sense of humor about the whole affair, it must've all been terribly frustrating. Stay strong!
