Dear Kyiv Independent community members,

We need your questions for our next episode of “This Week in Ukraine.” The topic this week is Ukraine’s recent struggles with air defense.

Earlier this week, Russian missiles hit Kyiv only seconds after the air alarm sounded, leaving people no time to seek shelter.

Between March 21-25, Russia launched 190 missiles, 140 Shahed-type drones, and 700 aerial bombs at Ukraine, in a new wave of attacks attempting to take out the country’s power infrastructure. Though Russia has failed to achieve this goal, Ukraine’s supply of air defense munitions continues to shrink.

To send in your questions, you can leave them in the comments below, message us on Patreon, or email our community manager Brooke at brooke@kyivindependent.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

Episode 11 of Season 2, “Ukraine’s drone campaign against Russian oil infrastructure” is linked above, with the community question starting at 23:40. The episode is available on YouTube and on listening platforms.

Thanks for this episode. It explains so much. For questions about Ukraine's air defense: 1. To what degree do we know where all the missiles and drones get launched from, and how many launch sites are fixed as opposed to mobile? 2. Ukraine is doing an excellent job of shooting down incoming missiles, but are there offensive measures Ukraine could take, such as: jamming missile or aircraft navigation systems or hacking them so that the missiles return to where they were launched; or, intense drone strikes on fixed launch sites to make them inoperational; or, is there a way to blockade the incoming supplies of missiles?
