Dear Kyiv Independent community members,

Thank you for your continued support! At the beginning of the year, we did a Q&A on Discord with our deputy chief editor Toma Istomina, where she answered your questions about how our editors and reporters do their jobs, as well as life in Kyiv and current events in the news.

We’re excited to schedule another “Ask me anything” style Q&A with our editor-in-chief Olga Rudenko.

You can join Olga on our community Discord server on Thursday, July 11 from 7-8 p.m. Kyiv time. Olga will be answering your questions about our work at the Kyiv Independent and how editorial decisions are made.

One of your benefits as a Kyiv Independent member is access to our exclusive Discord server. We set up our community Discord just over a year ago, after hearing from members that they valued a safe discussion space, without trolls or bots interfering.

As of now, we have nearly 1,400 people on our Discord server, including both our community members and the Kyiv Independent team. We have channels set up there for sharing resources on how to help Ukraine, suggesting story ideas to the editorial team, learning Ukrainian, and even sharing memes.

If you haven’t joined yet, we’d love to have you there! Here’s how:

First, you’ll need a Discord account if you don’t already have one. You'll also need to connect your Discord account with your Patreon account, with these steps: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/212052266-Getting-Discord-access

Next, you’ll need to use this invitation link: https://discord.gg/m7xnGz5k8Z

If you aren’t yet familiar with Discord or need any additional help joining our community server, just let us know. You can reach out to community manager Brooke at brooke@kyivindependent.com.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

It was really nice to interact in real time with Olga from KI. Closer contact helps strengthen commitment. Maybe more discord discussions, and even better, Zoom meetings!, could be a kind of public event people in other countries could sponsor, so the people and situation of Ukraine could become more real to more of the public.
