Dear Kyiv Independent community members,

Thank you to those who attended last week’s exclusive screening of “Shadows Across the River,” the latest documentary from the Kyiv Independent’s War Crimes Investigations Unit.

The film investigates Russian war crimes in the occupied territory of Ukraine’s southern Kherson Oblast and tells previously unknown stories, including about the murder of Ruslan Rusnak, who was taken from his home in the village of Hornostaivka by Russian forces and tortured to death in November 2023.

The screening was followed by a Q&A with the film’s author Danylo Mokryk, where he answered audience questions about how the documentary was made and if there’s any possibility the perpetrators will face justice.
