Dear Kyiv Independent community,

We’re getting ready to publish the ninth edition of our written Q&A about Russia’s war against Ukraine. As part of your membership benefits, this recurring Q&A gives you the opportunity to ask us anything about the war — with our journalists and editors answering your questions on our website. You can check out two of our previous editions here and here.

Just like our past Q&As, we want to hear your questions about Russia’s invasion and provide you with answers. Whether you're wondering about Ukraine’s drone strikes on Russian targets, Russia’s recent missile and drone attacks on Kyiv, or what stalled peace talks and shifting Western support could mean — we want to hear from you.

If you have any questions about the war, please comment below. You can also message us on Patreon or email your questions to our junior community manager, Asya, at a.chernova@kyivindependent.com.

We will collect your questions and answer them in a Q&A format on our website. We won’t publicly identify who asked the questions.

We look forward to hearing from you!

How do North Korean troops get transported to Russia? Do they bring their own weapons with them? Do the Russians command them? And how do they communicate (Russian or Korean)?

Also, in what ways is Europe really filling the gaps left by US failing in our commitments? Can they do everything that's necessary if they want to?

This isn't a question about the war but I noticed your RSS feed no longer supports full text. I enjoyed reading directly in my reader and I'm wondering if that was an intentional choice or if there's a different feed URL to use beyond the default one.

I’ve heard there are lots of Russian spies in Odessa. Also in Kyiv? Do you think that the assassination of a Ukrainian security officer in Kyiv the other day was done by Russia? Thank you for your outstanding work in utterly awful circumstances.

And is Russia running out of its "Asian" population of possible soldiers and will have to resort to the white Russians? How much is Russian doing this style of meat grinder fighting because it actually wants to depopulate the country of non-whites?

Fran

Won't the destruction of the shahed manufacturing facility in Iran and the drone assembly plant in Russia cut Russia's supply of drones?

I asked previously about an Australian volunteer fighter with Ukrainian Armed Forces who stepped on a landmine, lost his leg, had to crowdfund private medical treatment and return to Australia to recuperate and in spite of all of that was still wanting to return to Ukraine and risk his life again. Another civilian volunteer from the UK who lost his leg in a drone attack on his vehicle said he was lucky to get help from a medical charity and was staying in Ukraine. Do foreign volunteers not only risk their lives but also savings if they get injured as they are not covered by the public medical system and private cover policies are limited?
