Dear Kyiv Independent community members,
Thank you for your continued support.
We’d like to announce the topic of our next Q&A (which was chosen by our community members): Russia’s attacks on critical infrastructure, Ukraine’s energy crisis, and the situation in Kyiv.
As you probably have read, Russia has created a humanitarian crisis after weeks of attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, which have left millions of people across the country without electricity, heating, and water — amid subzero temperatures.
The energy crisis started on Jan. 9, when Russia launched hundreds of drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, at Ukraine, leaving hundreds of thousands without power — as well as disrupting Kyiv’s water supply and cutting off heat to about half of Kyiv’s residential housing. Since then, Russia has relentlessly attacked the country’s critical infrastructure: about 70% of Kyiv was left without power over the first couple of weeks of January, and over half a million Kyiv residents have left the city, according to the mayor.
Next week, business editor Lili Bivings and reporter Yuliia Taradiuk will answer your questions about the current energy crisis in Ukraine. From the response of state energy companies to the reality of the situation on the ground and what it’s like to live in Kyiv, we’re waiting for your questions.
