This week, we celebrated the most special Independence Day in Ukraine’s history. Today Ukraine is fighting for its freedom and independence harder than ever before.

We, the team of the Kyiv Independent, have our own role in it: We keep the world informed about the realities of this fight.

We take this opportunity to look back at our work over the past six months.

When the Russian invasion started in February, we were a three-month-old publication. Today we are Ukraine’s voice in the world and the world’s window into Ukraine. We report daily news and break crucial stories that challenge the narrative. We went from a tiny page with hundreds of followers to a media phenomenon with a 2.1-million Twitter audience.

None of it would have happened if it wasn’t for you, our supporters.

One of the questions I’m frequently asked is “How many people do you have?” When I say that we are a team of 26, people are usually surprised. “How do you do it with so few?”

Yet it doesn’t feel like we are few, because behind these 26 people stand all of you – thousands of people supporting us.

It is thanks to you that we can shed light on the horrors of Russia’s war against our country. Thank you for making it possible and helping us bring independent Ukrainian journalism to the world.

As we continue our watch, we ask you to continue to stand with us.

Together, we are making a difference every day, one story at a time.

You’re welcome. And Thank you.

You all are wondeful. Today's conversation with the duo who broke the "Sasha" story is an excellent example - no, an excellent MODEL - of transparency and accessibility by an organization. Any company could do this. You Did It. I say Bravissimi ! Proud to support, glad to promote, grateful you are there. Slava Ukraini. PS It would be wonderful to learn more about Ukrainian culture. It's the foundation for your strength, yes?

Keep up all your good work. As a British follower of your amazing will not to be persecuted by a dictator, I just wish as a Country we could do so much more than just support your independence. Thanks you for standing between Putin and Europe. My heart goes out to you all.

Dear Olga and everyone else on the team, Ever since mid-February, Kyiv Independent has been my primary source of information on day-to-day developments in Ukraine. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your great independent, in-depth reporting from Europe's front line against the fascist-imperialism of the Kremlin mafia. I, a Netherlands-based Brit who worked in journalism and human rights advocacy for nearly a decade, salute you all for your courage, your dedication to truth in a world inundated by propaganda and disinformation, and your important role in the noble and just fight to liberate your great country. Know that the entire free world stands with you and have no fear: INDEPENDENT SOVEREIGN UKRAINE WILL PREVAIL! Each passing day brings you one day closer to victory and the restoration of peace! The independent, freedom-loving Ukrainian spirit is indomitable and indestructible, and all empires decay into dust and ashes. Слава Україні! Love from your supporter, friend and ally.

Keep up with the good work. Justice and freedom will win finally. Slava Ukraini.

Thank you for your amazing work, for keeping us informed, and simply for SURVIVING, thereby giving the rest of us who care about the future of democracy reason for hope, and reason to keep on fighting to preserve it wherever we are! My thoughts and very best wishes are with you all the time. Since Putin's re-invasion of your country in February, we have held a demonstration in my small Maine town every Sunday, for peace in Ukraine and for the end of Russia's genocidal assault on your country, people, culture, history. We will continue as long as your brave struggle continues!

Thank you for such good, honest reporting. Some day soon, I hope the most the war is over and the most important feature of the day is reporting on the borscht eating contest.
