Dear KI community members,

Thank you for your continued support.

On Wednesday, Nov. 23, another massive Russian missile strike left millions across the country without power. Even though it's reported that 50% of consumers have had their power restored, there are still shortages of electricity and problems with internet connectivity in Kyiv. Thank you for standing with us during this time.

We'd like to give a warm welcome to our 127 new members this week! Your support sustains our work. We wouldn't be here without our readers.

Here are some highlights from the Kyiv Independent over the last week:

We have power stations in the office now! Today, two power stations were delivered, and one more is on the way. We can use the stations for charging laptops, keeping the wifi on, and even powering the coffee machine. Pictured above is the Kyiv Independent staff unpacking the power stations in Kyiv on Nov. 25.

We reported on the fifth massive Russian missile strike on Ukraine's energy system. On Nov. 23, almost all big thermal and hydroelectric power plants were damaged, and the following day, still millions were left without electricity.

One rocket from Wednesday's attack destroyed a residence in Vyshhorod. Alexander Query and Kostyantyn Chernichkin covered the destruction in Kyiv Oblast and spoke to those whose home was destroyed.

The first train from Kyiv arrived in liberated Kherson this week. We heard from Kherson residents gathered at the station what it was like to reunite with loved ones they haven't seen for months.

We also covered how life is returning to normal in Kherson. Asami Terajima's piece looks at daily life in liberated Kherson, despite the city not having electricity or water.

We interviewed Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, who is in charge of making Ukraine a member of the EU. Estimates are that Ukraine's admission may take a decade, which Stefanishyna says is "far too long."

Since the full-scale invasion began about 1,000 Ukrainians have been released from Russian captivity. In Daria Shulzhenko's story, three women, who are still awaiting the release of a family member or partner, share what it's like to know your loved ones are in Russian captivity.

This week, Belarus Weekly looks at Ukraine's warning that Russia is planning a series of staged provocations against Belarus' critical infrastructure, in order to blame Ukraine for a "false flag" operation.

Thank you for standing by our side as we bring independent, locally-sourced news about Ukraine to the world.

Thank you for helping us to smell the coffee. ☕️ what is the view on how to stop the drone strikes? These appear to be the deadliest threat and take the least troops. Will Ukraine have to take out the launch locations? Is that even possible?

Thank you all for keeping us informed
