Dear Kyiv Independent community members,

Thank you to those who sent in your questions for our last community event, a Q&A with deputy chief editor Oleksiy Sorokin and news editor Nate Ostiller about how the U.S. elections will impact Ukraine.

Oleksiy and Nate discussed the political situation in the U.S., how Washington’s foreign policy affects Kyiv, and the current state of the war.

We’d also like to hear your ideas for our next Q&As. If there’s a topic you’re interested in, let us know by leaving a comment below or messaging us on Patreon.

I love the fight you're making as a dying breed of independent media. Americans like me are incredibly frustrated with our political system, which has been corrupted and controlled by a small number of very wealthy people who control the major political parties and media. Most Americans are too uneducated to see through the home-grown propaganda, so they vote for the corrupt when they're told it's the only way to avoid the person about whom blatant lies are told to scare them. When we try to elect new leaders who say they'll take action to get money out of politics, add term limits, etc, the corrupt machine really starts spewing money to prevent their election. Honest candidates can't get enough exposure from media like those funded by the powerful interests that control the media. In the rare event we get someone elected, if they don't give in to corruption once in office, they end up either being ousted at the next election by money-backed lies, or they eventually lose hope of making positive change and leave politics.
