The end of the book is much darker. Katniss is severely burned and psychologically mute, she was kept in solitary confinement while she is tried for the assassination of coin (found not guilty by reason of insanity basically) she attempted to starve herself to death during this time. She was going to commit suicide with the nightlock pill Peeta stopped her just as she bit down (on his hand drawing blood) it's only after Peeta is deemed cured of his hijacking and returns to 12 that Katniss shows signs of life again. The movie is good but does not really show how broken Katniss was at the end.

The next book Sunrise on the Reaping is going to be the next movie adaptation. The story follows Hammetch. Have you watched the prequel to the series yet??

Both the following movies ('Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' and the upcoming 'Sunrise on the Reaping') are prequel stories. Ballad follows a young Snow before he became president. Sunrise is Haymitch's story and games.

were you guys still planning on doing ballad before sunrise on the reaping this coming year???

When will yall react to the prequel?

I did my own riot when Finnick died. Refused to continue reading for almost two weeks. Then, I started again just for Prim to die. I was SO angry.

Btw, Effie is barely in the 3rd book. I understand why they have her in the movie. We didn't get to know Katniss's prep team in the first two movies the way we did in the first two books. In Book 3, it's Katniss's prep team in 13 rather than Effie. We do see Effie at the end of the third book, but Katniss sees her as a shell of her former self (1st person POV, so not necessarily the case, but Katniss might be right). And Haymitch and Effie definitely don't kiss on the lips. I wonder if that was even scripted or if it was improvised. Overall, as Josh Z says, the end of the book is much darker than the movie. Much like the other movies, the physical consequence of what's happened to them are almost not present (Peeta's lost leg, Katniss and Peeta's burns, etc) and while they still have deep trauma in the movies, it's even more in the books.
