thank you SO MUCH for actually understanding aryas character arch and not diminishing that moment to JUST “arya stole jon’s moment” i can understand arguments for him having that moment but i do think it’s such a cool way to complete her whole arc and im sick of people acting like it’s insane and random choice for her to be the one

I love Arya, but to have all the buildup between the Night King and Jon for so many seasons and to not even have one fight together, was very disappointing.

When this aired it was release in the middle of the night in my country, got up early and watched it before going to work in the morning which was insane, felt traumatized for that whole day lol

Goes without saying, awesome episode. The music really was a standout in this one. I get the various opinions, but I was thrilled it was Arya in the end. They invested so much into her story line and we got a great payoff.

Kinda long rant on the gripe about S8: The fact that Arya delivers the final blow is perfect. Truth be told, most of the main beats of S8 *are* good. The gripe (at least for me) is that while the overall narrative is great, the means of it coming to pass feels rushed, and in many places, illogical. Take the Battle for Winterfell in this episode: it makes NO sense to send the Dothraki out, or to fight outside the walls. The switch between wraiths rushing and killing everyone, to the quiet, horror-movies vibe with Arya avoiding wraiths inside, is great scenaristically, but makes no sense either. Arya somehow "appearing" behind the Night King is 100% shock factor, 0% logic: make her drop down from the weirwood tree, for example, that's easy to do and explain how the got the drop on him, but the way it is setup... Overall when watching this episode, I find myself wanting to get drawn in, but end up being pulled out of my suspension of disbelief at each scene. So, all in all: great ideas, very poor realisation IMO. And same for most of the season.

The showrunners were under the microscope on this one. They had 20 million people at the time trying to guess who would have been the one(s) to take out the Night King. Jon, Danny the Hound, Jamie, Theon, Tyrion? We are beyond the books. I also suspect that GRR Martin did not share his "plans". Actually the Night King might be something the TV show made up to boot. Love the ending music. A few wishes . . . Wish Jon got the Dragon just before it lost the reanimation magic. Kind of wanted Jamie with Jorah protecting Danny. I wanted Bran to do more as the Three Eyed Raven besides just flying the birds a bit. Would have been really cool if he could have helped by whispering words in their ears directing them to safety, warging into some people/ the dead?, warg into a shadow cat or other big critter to help out. I know I bet money was a factor for not doing some of that. That and time. It was long enough.

i agree :) i didnt see GOT when it came out, like the rest of the world :p So i guess its been disapointing for many of the fans. Especially the Arya thing, her basicly ending it all like that, i def got the feeling most fans hated that.. to me, it makes sense.. Her og Jon ofc.. but it makes sense that he is on the battlefield fighting like a madman.. and Arya being sneaky, smart, and protecting Bran.. She is amazing and if it couldnt be Jon, i think Arya is the perfect choice.

I didn't know a SINGLE person who wasn't excited AF it was Arya

Spoilers since this is completed on here so if you’ve only watched along til this point, this is your warning: Up until this episode, I was still majorly in love with Game of Thrones. There were moments that annoyed me in s7 and 8; Arya and Sansa bickering was lame and Dany was such a brat. Most of my gripes were around Dany and everyone acting like she’s a goddess even though she’s just a typical Targaryen. Her not understanding why no one worshiped her like they did in Essos even though she freed those people and gave them the choice to follow her or go their own way whereas in Westeros she expected them to already adore her and gave them the choice to bend the knee or die. She never did a single thing in Westeros to break any wheel, she just wanted to be the wheel. Which could be fine, if we had more of s7 and 8 to develop this decline or rather this realization that that’s what she always was. But it’s this sudden shift that didn’t feel true to anything about previously. But up until episode 3 I could get on board w everything. I personally loved Arya taking down the Night King. It felt earned to me, I know a lot of ppl say it wasn’t but she wasn’t in Braavos for a week or two, she was there at least a year, maybe closer to 2. Even Jaqen said she was ready to be no one at the end, she just decided to be Arya instead. She did earn it. It’s when the show started focusing on Dany’s decline and the frustration of seeing all who adored her continue their adoration when she does the full 180 and blatantly becomes all she says she opposes, I’m hating every second of that. That we’re told this was always what was happening when it wasn’t! It was a fast decline from season 7 on. Too fast. We should have either seen more of her hypocrisy as hypocrisy and not just mistakes early on or it should have been a slower devolution. The last seasons were rushed and it was clear that Dany hadn’t been set up the way she was supposed to end. It’s so clear that Martin can’t ever finish it because even he knows there’s no way to get there that makes sense with how he set it up. You can’t set up a near-Mary-Sue of a character and then the last second be like, jk she’s evil! The lore works, I do get it. But the story was so rushed and bullshitted to get there, I actually became embarrassed that I was a fan for a few years. On rewatch, it’s less painful and I can go back to appreciating what a beautiful show it was. But I’ll never not be disappointed in the execution of the final 3 episodes especially. This was definitely the last truly epic and moving ep of GoT imho.
