You said kind of hard after today, but literally today proved his point that shane was the one that was reckless and unable to keep his cool. Shane is a murderous rapist. Having a couple of valid points, that Rick also made, doesn't change that. At least Rick was able to keep his cool under pressure when things weren't going well, and use his head. Shane wasn't. The whole thing proved rick right.

You have to remember that Shane is only still on the farm because Rick talked Hershel into not throwing him off it so Rick has become responsible for Shane in a way. Rick wants Shane to follow him so Shane doesn’t do something else that could cause problems & have them lose staying on the farm especially with Lori pregnant. Your comments about Shane being ahead of everyone & accepting that you have to do things differently because the world has changed was interesting. When I see Shane make a decision, though, it always seems to be the easiest option - kill everything - whether that’s walkers in the barn, Otis, this young kid, etc. There’s something else that kills everything so easily - Walkers!! A soulless, brainless monster. I understand a person has to change but I would hope that we would keep some of our soul otherwise what’s the difference between us & the walkers. We should have to think at least one night on whether to kill someone or not. Also Rick, Shane & the kid wouldn’t have been attacked by walkers if Shane hadn’t thrown that wrench into the window. Shane caused the danger in this particular situation. Of course, all of this is only my opinion lol

This is why I love The Walking Dead so much, it breeds such great discourse on what the right thing to do is, what we'd do in the world and so on. The problem is the word "right" depends on a lot of things. If you're living in this apocalypse, is your goal 100% survival? If that's it, morality has no value, then just become a warlord, pure pragmatism. Why appease Hershel, just murder his family and take the farm, problem solved. Shane is "ahead" in the sense that he's shed the burden and restrictions of his old soul, I think when he murdered Otis. Rick deep down agrees with Shane about Randall, but he still has his soul intact, so he's struggling to follow through. I don't think that makes him a bad leader. I think it makes some decisions fraught with more risk but well... a leader with no guardrails at all? Who knows what that would be like... Can't wait to watch more with you guys.

Lori isn’t like a rock, a foundation. She’s legitimately the opposite of that. She flip flops on Shane and Rick all of the time, she can’t keep track of her kid, she goes on nonsensical suicide missions and she isn’t a real partner to Rick. Granted there are some things you hadn’t seen yet at this point, but you guys need to open your eyes more to see what’s in front of you. Also, it’s disappointing that your conclusion is “Shane is ahead of his time.” I wish you were smarter than that. There is a lot that’s going to happen in the show, and a lot of transformation that a lot of characters will be put through. But when it’s all said and done, your conclusion should be that if you become a person like Shane, there is no point in living and we will all extinguish each other.

For me, keeping it succinct, Rick is wrong sometimes but his reasoning is for a greater good and he thinks long term. He wants what’s best for the group as a whole, he’d give his life for any of them, and he’d do anything to keep his family safe. Shane is often right but his reasoning is selfish and all about right now. Even with his love for Lori - which I believe he truly feels - it’s about him and he doesn’t really care what Lori wants. He’d throw anyone in the group to a herd of walkers just like he did Otis to save his own ass. He doesn’t think about what will happen tomorrow, which in his defense, tomorrow is less of a guarantee than it’s ever been. But even in his quest to keep Lori and Carl safe, it’s less for them and more for himself. He even said, “I didn’t keep them alive; they kept me alive.” It sounds sweet on the surface but underneath, it’s pretty telling where his priorities are. Him. Just him.
