As you said this is an incredible episode. Another writing masterclass from Ben Edlund, its amazing how he can write this and also Monster Movie. I remember waiting for his episodes as you knew they'd be something special. So many revelations, the breaking of the first seal, Cas beginning to question his purpose and of course we finally discover how Sam is getting his powers. It's devastating to see Dean so broken.

Can you imagine... the weight and guilt on Dean's shoulders from breaking in hell after "only" 30 years, then compounded by the fact his father held out for a fucking century which is beyond legendary, but would make Dean feel like even more of a failure. And then toss in the fact he technically started the race to the apocalypse. So unfair, so brutal. And now he has to end it? Insane!

Project Senpai

I can't even begin to imagine how Dean must have felt in this one.

Cas is such an interesting character. Angels seem to be only meant to obey orders. Almost programmed like robots. But you can see that Cas feels things in a way most angels don't. He's on a journey, and it'll be interesting to see where he ends up. It's like he gets close, and then he remembers that disobedience means falling and he takes two steps back. It makes sense. From the angels perspective, the first Fallen angel was Lucifer. I can see why most would be horrified at becoming like him, but Anna is an example of an angel that fell but didn't turn evil, so it must be possible. Time will tell.
