Option 1 is closer to the correct pronunciation of her name "MAo MAo"

one interesting detail. when I was watching this episode for the first time, I thought the other ladies in waiting would be rude and sneaky to MaoMao, cause that's how it usually goes with these things. I could see Carlie thought the same. but they were actually nice, totally subverting the trope that women have to be snakes towards each other. one of the many things I love about this show!

as for the whole Jinshi thing :D he is trying to seduce Mao Mao obviously, as he is intrigued by his charm not working on her. yes he's a bit, uhm, forward. but it's all just implied, due to his status he also may not directly court her.

Yes!!! Apothecary does an amazing job showing how multi-faceted female dynamics are especially in the situations these ladies are thrust upon

Yup yup Jinshi got a piece of that chocolate snack and did that to distract Maomao. Not that his methods are excusable 😅 but I'd say his choices/actions are indicative of the environment he's been in. Maomao about to hit him hard with reality tho: his seduction has its limits! 😂

Option 1: MAO MAO!! 😁 like a cute little ALPHA kittie. RESPECT THE NAME!😝 Love u guys

The kidnappers were posing as Maomao's family when they sold here to the rear palace and as her "family" they are still responsible for any debts Maomao incurred so they got billed for the expensive vase Maomao "broke".

Her name is only distinguishable from the word "Cat" by the tone and kanji used to write it. It doesn't translate to Japanese well, but it is why some people seem to say her name differently.
