I wouldn’t get too caught up on the Jing stuff, it was more about needing an earth bender who listens to the Earth. The jing stuff isn’t a literal mechanic of earthbending, more so a philosophical concept.

Also, as far as why Toph is as good as she is. I guess ya'll missed it in her explaining it, but she was taught by the badger-moles how to earthbend, and like we learned earlier in the season, they are the original earthbenders. Being taught by the original bender of an element, you'll turn out much more skilled than the average person. That and what you guys said about having more time to train etc.

Yeah when she talks to Aang and you get the flashback of toddler Toph she mentions how the badger moles train her. But she does mention it again in season 3 in the part you’re referencing

Nick is right, that scene isn’t in this episode. There is no mention of badgermoles in their conversation, and no flashback to toddler Toph. Toph mentions that she “sees” with vibrations via earthbending—which is why she’s so good.
