For the Devil Fruit picks, it could be a good idea to pick one for each type so a Logia, Zoan and Paramicia. Also, I would really reccomend watching 131. It is filler but it has some great character moments.

Amazing reaction! The Alabasta goodbye has always been one of the most touching. Also because Alabasta is the first long arc in One Piece, and we spent a lot of time with the same characters. Robin is a straw hat 👒 She deserves her spot in your Straw Hat Crew Love how you get ready when you hear the sad piano 😂 Real one piece fans, when hearing it, make themselves comfortable, take a deep breath, and move the tissue box closer.

Robins introduction ep. is one of my favorite episodes. the nonchalant way luffy agrees to let her join. So random and different to the "full arc to become a straw hat " story plot.

100% agreed on Pell's death fakeout. It's a fairly infamous writing choice in the community. You can sort of suspend your disbelief with Igaram for a number of reasons (Robin being sly, the explosion being relatively small and around water) but Pell is pretty difficult to do the same. Really surprised Mr. 2 hasn't made his way into either crew with his moment here! But there are tons of good choices.

I've heard that the episode of Pell flying the bomb away came out around when 9/11 happened in America. So oda thought it would be in bad taste to have Pell die from the bomb.

Pell's fakeout is generally met with heavy criticism even today. It's seen as the start of an infamous "issue" with One Piece where death is reserved almost exclusively for flashbacks. At some point it'll be appropriate to share what the community calls the fakeout phenomena in OP cause it does happen a few times. Oda did not originally intend to bring Pell back, but the 9/11 attacks in the USA took place around the time the manga chapter first released. Oda felt it was in poor taste and out of respect of the situation he brought Pell back later on when he felt it would work in the story. Butterfly effect.

the reason why arabasta felt well established before we even got to it was because it was part of the a huge saga. reverse mountain, whisky peak, little garden, drum island and ofc arabasta were all part of the arabasta saga. now we’re entering a new saga

Robin is indeed part of the crew now (officially asked and Luffy said sure) which is a real departure from what we've seen so far (Luffy asks people to join his crew and they refuse or agree)

@Carlie & Ange, I wanted to clarify something about the Pell's "fake death" plot point. So, originally, Pell was actually dead when the chapter came out in 2001 but the timing was unfortunate because then 9/11 attacks happened in the US a few weeks after that chapter. And Pell's character was blown up in the manga before 9/11 so it was really bad timing. Because of this, Oda went back and changed Pell's death to lighten the mood of the readers who were at the time shocked by the attack on the twin towers in the US like the rest of the world was. This was a very nice gesture from Oda at the time but as you can see, it left a massive plot hole in One Piece and the "fake Pell death" is a meme but the reason behind it is pretty sad. I remember being annoyed when I first watched this but then I learned the reason so it helps me ignore the obvious plot hole there and its an example of how real life events do sometimes effect the production of One Piece and other manga/ anime.

Deaths do happen, but not often, as Oda went on record saying he is scared of getting rid of characters. You might be able to justify Pell's survival later on, but for now, it does leave a sour taste on an otherwise spotless arc.

drum island is also my personal favorite off this saga.. alabasta arc is good too, ace's intro and vivi's goodbye give me goosebumps, but the climb is this saga's peak for me personally it's still a top 10 moment of the whole series

Oda initially wanted to start One Piece off in a recent arc that just ended. Therefore the deaths and return of characters may be foreshadowing for the final saga.
