its typical for the evil guy (vaatu) to betray the other evil guy (unalaq) but it wouldnt make sense rlly since vaatu lost vs wan only because wan was bender + raava, so vaatu needs a person to fuse with to make it even

I am genuinely curious who the hell told you season 2 doesn't have the romance nonsense. It absolutely is so much worse in season 2.

This romance stuff is not for me. I really didnt like it when I first saw this series years ago. But I just have to remind myself that this show features young teenagers and was written for teenagers to young adults, romance is a contemporary issue that those demographics face. I know most people see this season as one of the weaker ones, but it gave us the first avatar story and iroh in the spirit realm so this season does have it's redeeming qualities

I actually think that Unalaq doesn't see good and evil equivalent to light and dark spirits. in the first few episodes, Korra makes a throw away line to Unalaq about when he is gonna teach her to fight "evil" spirits...to which he responds "there are no "evil" spirits, there is light and dark in them all." So to him, having Vaatu trapped in the spirit world and the spirits and humans separated is NOT balance. to have balance, the spirits and humans need to live together and also, light and dark need to coexist....Now, I don't agree with this, but this is how I see Unalaq justifying his extreme endgame!

For unalaq it seems like he cares more about the spirits than people so his reasoning for wanting to free vaatu is probably just the ultimate form of that. I'll become a better avatar who brings true balance to the world. Which to be fair when both raava and vaatu were free there was some sort of balance but still.

I can't wait until the best season of this whole show. Season 3 and the villain is soooooooooo good. I personally think it's better than the rest of the TLOK series and the ATLA timeline.
