Personally only season 2 ep 0 is worth watching the other OVA is quite pointless just in between episode filler

I would also say that this anime is uncomfortable for a reason because it is answering a broader question which is can somoene as depraved and scummy as Rudy change ? ( the question is important because such people do exist) And it's great that the change can't happen instantly like we would probably want but it's a very very gradual one with sometimes "one step in the reight direction followed by two steps back". So yeah even with season 1 Rudy has only made the most minor of changes into becoming a decent person.

Yes Rudy's original parents were very caring and supportive, regardless whether they could have done anything better it's not for lack of desire. How well people cope with trauma varies, and Rudy unfortunately is notably bad at it. This episode beautifully shows his progress. He's still bad at persevering but has made the small but critical growth necessary to get back up on his own and press on, if only for the sake of someone else. Eris's communication skills are a similar situation. For all the improvement she's made she's still extraordinarily bad at reconciling the difference between what she means vs what people will understand.
