💔 🥔 Sasha’s death hits way too hard. That second shot was so close to Jeans head too. I always forget how close we came to losing both the shock of seeing Sasha took so much of my focus. Such a sad episode.

Yeah, she was always supposed to die. In the case of the anime, it seems clear he wanted her death to be more impactful by having Gabi to it instead. I'd love to know if he had Gabi in mind already at that point, or he decided to make Gabi the vehicle later.

She's a brainwashed child that just saw her comrades get killed right in front of her. Zofia, Uldo, and many other Eldians. We don't care about them as much because we haven't seen them develop their characters. But that's what is so cruel about war. We don't care about people we've never met. It's so easy to disassociate and distance yourself from the violence if you don't see them as equal and all having lives, families, and futures of their own.

I’m impressed you guys were already thinking ahead wondering if all the Eldians on Paradis would think similarly about the goal and methods of this war. While clues were sprinkled in (ex: Floch not caring about collateral damage and focusing on the victory while Jean scolded him to keep collateral damage to a minimum and was focused on the 6 dead soldiers instead of the victory), I think most of us were just completely too emotionally shocked from Sasha’s death and Zeke’s betrayal of Marley Marley to think about more immediately.

I think many people appreciate her as she was the glue that continuously brought the Scouts back to their humanity and sensitivity to life with her comic relief/simple human quirk of loving food. Over the years the Scouts had to watch so many comrades die, kill titans who they eventually learned were humans, and even kill other people in S3. We are mainly told the story from the scouts point of view so we go through a similar experience of trauma. For Berthold and especially Reiner, their haven for all the stress and trauma was in pretending to be a soldier. For many of the scouts (and many of us), it was Sasha, even if it was on just a subconscious level.

Yeah, that’s how good the writing is. If the show started showing us the Marleyan’s side these past few episodes, we would’ve been cheering for Gabi. Just goes to show how it’s all about perspective

Gabi gets a ton of hate, and it's kind of unfair. She's a literal child (10ish years old?) forced into an ongoing war, fighting for the grand prize of being a second class citizen. She's been force fed propaganda from birth, and she just saw first hand irrefutable proof that the propaganda is real. The devils of Paradis just murdered thousands of innocent people for no apparent reason. Exactly like Eren.

Russel, I appreciate the head canon, but nothing even remotely like that is expressed by any of the characters in the show. She certainly could have been written that way, but she wasn’t. I mean hell, in the 2 episode we got of her this season, she was as cold as Eren.

Hi Cory, yeah I completely agree she wasn’t explicitly written that way/the characters never express she had that kind of role and impact on them. But like you said, she has an uncanny ability for people to get so attached to her. Aside from the obvious (explicit) things we see from her like her humor and pure/straightforward nature, that theory would be my guess of why so many people get strongly attached to her!

Haha it’s funny because after I watched season 1 I assumed every character was more or less ‘cookie cutter’ and that the plot was super focused and linear. While he definitely can improve his minor character writing, he fooled me so badly as both a few characters (Reiner, Eren, Gabi) and the plot itself had such a circular development

You need to rewatch the show from S1. Sasha is the clutch queen. She saved many people that many couldn't do in the nick of time. In S1. She saved Samuel from falling during the Colossal Titan attack. S2. She saved Armin from being obliterated by the Colossal Titan's explosion and falling unto Eren and Armored Titan. Mikasa and Hange suffered quite badly because of that. She also saved that little girl from her village. She was also the person entrusted by Erwin and Hange to relay messages during the battle. S3P1. She saved Mikasa from getting shot by Dimo Reeves in the warehouse. She also saved Armin from being killed by Eren and Historia's kidnappers. Here in S4, she singlehandedly took down Carlo, the artillery unit in Cart Titan. She did nothing? She is a clutch queen with a bubbly personality.

It’s amazing how wonderfully this episode parallels the first. The absolute amount of devastation and lack of knowledge of the enemy's plan on Marley’s side is a reflection of Shiganshina. It’s even more tragic when you realize that this attack was in LIBERIO. The home of the Eldians in Marley. Meaning that it was mostly just Eldian blood being spilled in both attacks. They truly are just tools of war and meat shields in the eyes of Marley.

That's not true. If he was the one that created it 100 years ago* Only King Fritz (and his off-spring) would be subject to the vow. Zeke comes from a different lineage of royal blood not tied to Paradis. For the same reason King Fritz ancestors would not have been bound by the vow either.

I dont think its a silly thing to do as Gabi lost her friends and as she said everything she ever fought for was destroyed in an instant. If the same thing happened to you, u wudnt be able to keep ur composure and regroup, not to mention shes literally a kid. People hate Gabi for the same reason they love Eren. As u said Gabi is literally Eren from 1st season but we love Eren

Eren is also the main character that we’ve grown to love over the course of 3+ seasons. Gabi has displayed similar characteristics to Eren but all we’ve really seen her do is try to throw away all her potential by running blindly into the scouts all to kill the person that spared her. Which happened to be the potato queen herself. We by no means hate Gabi, but this might help clarify our stance! Im sure with more time, we’ll love Gabi!

I think it's important for a lot of us to understand that Carlie & Ange are still in the process of watching this anime, and do not have the same knowledge that all of us do with a lot of these new characters. In that same light, their thoughts and feelings on these characters could very well change over time, depending on how the anime develops. We will just have to wait and see, and there is no reason to become rude or disrespectful to one another. With how understanding, fair and compassionate Carlie & Ange typically are when it comes to a lot of the different perspectives/philosophies within this anime, there's no doubt that they will be able to continue that pattern.

@Ivan - Screen time ≠ Character development A character can be developed with almost no screen time. Take Marco, for example. Had very little screen time throughout the anime, but had such a huge impact on the other characters AND the ongoing plot of the anime. He was a kind human, who instead of talking down to Jean in S1, he encouraged him and helped point Jean in the direction of the person we know him as today. Character development doesn't have to only be a multi-layered protagonist/antagonist that we've followed for multiple seasons. It can be as simple as a character in a show/movie/story making a good or bad decision.

Yeah they attacked first in this specific battle, but who started the entire thing? The King left with the entire almost Eldian population, and yet Marley attacked them years later, unprovoked. Finally going on the offensive doesn't make Eren & his friends the aggressors or "attackers". You have to be a complete pacifist to believe that.

Damn, I remember when I first saw Sasha spare Gabi's life and I said out loud "That's gonna come back to bite her in the ass". I didn't expect it to be that bad tho!! O_O I was expecting someone else to die and Sasha having to deal with the guilt or something like that.
