Yeah, I believe the writers of the show really wants us to root for the black. They made Rhaenyra a Daenerys 2.0 while she has a very different personnality in the book. Same for Aegon they made him a joffrey 2.0 while he is not a rapist in the book. I think thats the choice they made. Aegon is supposed to have the strongest bond with his dragon and the most beautiful one but its never shown here

what r u on about, they made daemon much more cruel in the show doing shit he never did in the books ie killing his wife ignoring his second wife and physically abusing his third wife. on top of that they made aemond killing luce an accident which in the book it isnt. greens are becoming way more sympathetic. the only green they have done sort of wrong is aegon aside from that everyone else in the green are grey.

Well everyone sees whats suits them I guess. I think the greens have a lot to complain (Alicent - Larys scene for example, criston cole character) while Rhaenyra is seen as the ideal queen in the show. (talks about duty, spare laenor etc)

the book is told from the perspective of unreliable narrators, wouldn't really take it into account when talking about character traits.

I understand the confusion over Daemon doing his lil bout of spousal abuse. I have yet to see your ending discussion but perhaps I can help explain what was up there. Firstly, this episode was directly written with the aid of GRRM, and Daemon is one of his stated favorite characters. So this must be in line with his imagining of said character. Sidenote: GRRM has had bad opinions of his own characters in the past so I guess take this with a grain of salt. Secondly, we have witnessed Daemon acting incredibly violently and rashly when brought to anger before. Thirdly, Daemon is a very bad man, or at least one who is capable of doing very bad things (pick your poison). We witness him massacre civilians, murder his wife, groom his niece (I know that targs and stuff but still he DID do that), murder an innocent bystander as part of a larger conspiracy etc. Fourthly, Daemon is abnormally agitated/emotional in this moment. He just lost a child (the still birth), people whom he hates (Otto and that crew) have stolen what he believes is his/his wife's AND he believes these people killed his brother to do it. And now he is witnessing his wife whom he has killed for already twice, display the same "weakness" and spout the same sort of "drivel" (his opinion) that his brother did. From Daemon's perspective, his brother was weak and this brought about the current situation and his wife is about to throw everything they've worked for for so long away due to the same weakness. I imagine Daemon, even if he loves Rhaenyra deeply, on some level was like "Hell yea I get the throne after all" and we know how touchy he was about being the Heir. And now he learns that the heirs are all told the super special secret and Daemon wasn't, meaning Vizzy T never intended to actually have him inherent the throne in a serious manner. So that's another reason to be pissed. Basically, there is long built up anger and pain over decades of his life that comes out all at once. Also, men like Daemon? They can't just "turn off" being violent and impulsive. There's a bit of a romanticized "bad boy" trope where the dangerous man isn't dangerous to those he loves, but in reality that is simply not true. Some spousal abuse is entirely in Daemon's wheel house, its not antithetical to his character. People who abuse their spouses don't "Hate them" and still in fact LOVE them, but they still do the abuse. And from Rhaenyra's reaction this is the first time he's ever done this, so it'd be easy to chalk it up to extreme emotional duress. Men in Westeros are not taught healthy outlets for their emotions lol. You can enjoy the character without thinking they are a good person. I still like Daemon's character. But he's a shitty person. Pretty much everyone in the show is a shitty person, and/or, is shown to do very bad things. Daemon is not a "likeable" dude unless you think "murdering civilians without any sort of trial, murdering his innocent wife, killing an innocent man for his own benefit" are likeable traits. He's charismatic and interesting, but he isn't a "good" person.

"...now he learns that the heirs are all told the super special secret and Daemon wasn't..." I really think this had nothing to do with it, because he appeared to brush it off as though he believed it was some irrelevant prophecy. I also think he will continue to stand behind that belief. He has also shown on a number of occasions that both Rhaenyra and Viserys are important to him, very selectively. I agree that he has a lot of pent up emotional stress, but the action that Daemon took in that scene, still doesn't feel earned. I will say that despite that, it would make for an interesting turn of his character. I think it falls in line with how he's acted previously, as you mentioned, and I think it can additionally be seen as him losing himself since Viserys was like the glue of the realm and his family. My closing thoughts are really that everyone knows Daemon is a bad guy, and I think that doesn't need explanation to understand. However, that scene still did not feel justified, even though it 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 be more interesting for his character.

They literally changed two things that made Greens more villainess. Which was The greens usurping the crown for their own purpose and ideals and Aemond killing Lucerys. Now, both of them are misunderstandings.

I have not read the book, so what I saw in the show is all that I have got. ☝️ I agree with almost everything Conner wrote. Daemon is and always has been a loose unit with a massive lack of anger management. I don't think he is capable of completely leaving this at the door step when he comes home. This is not how that works... I absolutly think he loves Rhaenyra in his way and that under normal circumstances there is no violence in their relationship. But the current situation isn't normal at all! The ammount of emotional stress is far to much for him to hold it back. This is oc no excuse for his behavior, it is just the reason for it. I'd say this scene actually shows his love for her in a weird way, because almost everyone else who would have been his counterpart in this scene would probably not have been part of the show anymore afterwards... He truly struggles to deal with emotions which we have seen several times by now. The way he acts with the stillborn baby and Rhaenyra in the earlier scenes is just another. So for me this is not out of character at all. Maybe I will see it in another way when I read the book though. 🤷‍♂️ This show has been much better than I expected tbh. So many great actors/actresses. Incredible cast. Especially love Rhaenys, Otto and Viserys (whom I didn't not like very much at the start). I tried to stay in a neutral position in terms of the both sides and I think that helped me loving and hating both.

Haven’t read the source material yet but it seems that Daemon didn’t choke rhaenyra in the book so as far as I’m concerned that scene never happened

I think that the reason I viewed the interaction a little differently is just because the show has made a massive point that Daemon is violent, cruel and aggressive, but to everyone EXCEPT his family. That’s the reason I felt that it was a little out of place. I definitely do agree with all your assessments of Daemon though. Definitely not disputing that at all!

MasterOfPuppets
>>94248718

You are right the show painted him exactly like this. I just think this impulsive and aggressive way can't be switched off and on completely. He truly loves Rhaenyra and Viserys and would not harm them willingly, but here he loses control due to the circumstances. Not that this would make it better. I would also think that he will regrett it later. But overreacting is not out of character for me if it is properly explained. And it is for me🤷‍♂️

Daemon was never that much of a full lovey dovey family guy(mabye his family over all others) but he was scheme & skeevy never fully respecting his brother and planning to rule through grooming his neice.

So a lot of the book readers didnt like how the showrunners interperated the Aemond vs Lucerys scene. In the book Aemond goes after Luke with the full intention of killing him because he is a remorseless and vile human, after killing him he goes to find the body, cut out both eyes to give to Alicent as a gift. Not sure why the showrunners have taken this non guilty approach with Aemond as it would've cemented Aemond's character truer to how he is in the books. I dont think his face at the end there showed any remorse, he was merely thinking about how much he's messed up and basically started the war.

Mukatutu
>>94267194

Isn't the book written in a "third person" perspective by some Maester? The way I see it they have some creative freedom to show what "really happened" vs what the Maester was told/knows but still be faithful to the books. And so far from what I've seen a lot of book readers acknowledge the difference but are fine with it because it's a more realistic approach than him a full on comic book villain from the start. I'm sure they can develop that "remorseless, vile human in further seasons. He did just cross a line, albeit unintentionally. This also makes puts value into what Viserys was saying earlier about Targaryens and how full dragon dominance is an illusion.

Conner
>>94267194

It was his fault. Dude woulda been found guilty nowadays of manslaughter or 2nd degree murder or something. I agree with Mukatutu, unless Aemond comes out and says "it was an accident" in universe it would appear to everyone that he killed Luc on purpose. He threatened him in front of witnesses then chases him on a dragon and Luc dies. My prediction is Aemond is going to own it even knowing it was an accident, because that's preferable than him saying "I couldn't control my dragon". His pride wouldn't like that. So later, the maesters write what witnesses and Aemond himself says happened. Its also important to keep in mind that GRRM had a direct hand in writing this particular episode, so this must be the actuality of the event, its just incorrect in the "in universe" account later down the line.

Conner
>>94249915

My guy how would some Maester dude writing the book after the fact know he did that or not. The book this story comes from is written "in universe" meaning a character in this world wrote what happened. Only Rhaenyra and Daemon knew this happened and obviously they aren't gonna tell everyone. Also GRRM had a direct hand in writing this episode, meaning this did, in fact, happen.

I think both Carlie and Ange would be dragon food by now if they existed in the world of ASOIAF. Way too nice for this duplicitous, evil world!

Bryonna Yates

I know I'm a bit late but I have a few clarifications to make for you two! Rhaenyras baby was born with scales and had dragon features. Like Daenerys' baby in GOT is said by the witch that delivered him but he died. I guess this happens sometimes with Targaryens. They are said to have bedded dragons and had dragon ritual orgies in the past. Vermithor is King Jacaerys'(King Viserys' father) dragon. One of the unclaimed dragons Daemon was talking about. One of the older and bigger dragons in the world. Aemonds eye has been replaced with a sapphire! How cool right? I felt Aemond was toying with Luke too and Aemond probably felt some guilt. I do think he is thinking "oh fuck, I just killed my nephew whom we are on the verge of war with and my mum wants peace and this won't help". Will he refute the murder or use it as tool for power? Daemon choking Rhaenrya did seem a bit out of character and Rhaenrya doing nothing about it pissed me off. Why didn't see punish him as queen? He has had NO repercussion this entire show. He literally can do ANYTHING he wants and it's frustrating.

Carlie & Ange
>>94350039

Thanks for clarifying Bryonna! We too found the Daemon scene a little jarring on all accounts. We didn’t think this sort of behaviour of his applied to members of his family but it obviously does. Maybe Rhaenyra’s reaction or lack there of was because it may have been assumed to have happened before? Which would be even more horrible.

Bryonna Yates
>>94350039

Oh the lack of reaction could very well mean it's happened before. She did say that he has "gone to madness" in her stillbirth scenes with her boys. Viserys really was holding that man together, I think.
