EDIT: We’re seeing a lot of people commenting about how Konosuba would go over our heads because of the genre and us not having experienced isekai tropes yet. Would this really diminish our enjoyment of the show?

Hey guys! We'll be finishing Oshi No Ko next week so its time for another poll! We're looking to replace it with a more light hearted anime to keep a nice balance on the channel! These were our favourites from your suggestions.

Re:Zero fans, we will get to it eventually. We'd say after MOB. It'll be great to catch up before Season 3 drops next year!

Comments

Alchyy

But Mob is already a light hearted anime. Re:Zero would balance it

Josh Knoebel

Another poll with 2 shows I enjoy that will not win. Curse you recency bias! 😂

Centric

Dress up darling cause u guys never reacted to any fan service/romance so I think u guys should watch that

Silver

As much as I'd absolutely love reactions to My Dress Up Darling and Konosuba, I don't know how they'd feel about the level of fanservice in both. But damn I wanna see them freak out

MrYinYang

This is a solid selection of light-hearted anime. My personal guilty pleasure is My Dressing-Up Darling. But Bocchi will probably win due to its popularity

Josh Knoebel

Also, I would definitely *not* put ranking of kings in a lighthearted poll... The art style is cute, but...

Josh Migos

Ranking of kings easy

Dan Millan

I just finished Konosuba, funniest anime I’ve seen in a while

iJonShuffle

If the watch Konosuba or My Dress Up Darling I'll be so surprised, based on its lewdness.

Josh Knoebel
>>112726059

They seem to do fairly well with it. Both of them love to joke about their waifu/husbando lists, and Ange has been permitted to watch Daki and Mitsuri without too much argument from Carlie 😂 And it's so wholesome and cute. I really wish it had a chance, but Bocchi is too recent so it has the attention and I'm guessing it'll win.

Nathan Mathews

Konosuba is unironically one of the best shows for raw comedy. Truly a treat

K_How

My Dress Up Darling is an amazing romance anime. Yes, there is a level of fan service, but I would say that such "service" is done in a tasteful perspective of a high school boy who treats the female lead with immense amount of respect. The fan service isn't just shoved in the viewers' faces, it's shown from the protagonist's point of view and he is very respectful about it. He's not perverted or creepy. He's incredibly polite and respectful. The female lead is just overly comfortable in her skin and likes to tease the male lead a bit. It reminds me of my highschool days. I wasn't a pervert, but it didnt' stop me from noticing my classmates. I implore CnA to not be afraid of the "fan service" in My Dress Up Darling. It is done well, and the sweetness of the show will outweigh it many times over.

Алта

Omg I really don’t think konosuba would be appropriate

Silver
>>112726059

True. I like Bocchi and Ange would definitely love the music aspect but I just like other things more lol. But im fine with any of these

Degenerick

since re-zero is an isekai its only natural that kono suba wins since its also an isekai (isekai is japanese for world and the genre basically means they go to a new world usually of fantasy and explore it)

FTN Chicken

Even though I’ve literally watched Carlie & Ange react to shows with live-action sex/nudity, it still feels awkward recommending a show with as much adult humor as KonoSuba Won’t stop me though XD

plug-in panda

they didn’t even seem comfortable with what little fan service kaguya had, i love konosuba but i think that’s gonna be an awkward watch for them

PackerMan

Come on guys, Bocchi needs some love.

Leo Zamudio

Guys we all know Bocchi would be their favorite anime, let’s all vote for the pink thing

plug-in panda
>>112726411

other way around. konosuba is a parody. that humor mocking isekai will be totally lost on them

rileya

Hoping for a Bocchi clutch somehow, never seen it before but I dropped Dress Up Darling and Konosuba after a couple episodes each. Ecchi and lewd stuff with teenagers, shows made for teenagers(at least it felt like it), didn’t really appeal to me at all. I keep hearing Konosuba is one of the funniest anime comedies but after not laughing for 3 episodes… Ranking of Kings was pretty cool at first but I gradually found myself dozing off more as it went further. Maybe I just sound like a hater now T_T

plug-in panda
>>112726464

MDUD would be a lot better but i think it’s obvious bocchi is what they would enjoy the most

John Spartan

Lol, you were too bashful to Kaguya's "fanservice", I can't imagine how'd react to My Dress up Darling and Konosuba's

ItsYukiMe

Bocchi would probably be cute (haven't seen it yet). Personally I feel like the fanservice in My Dress-Up Darling makes sense in the story because of the characters. Hope it gets a chance!

plug-in panda
>>112726667

people are voting for it thinking it’ll be funny but it’s just gonna be awkward reactions for the whole series

Philipp Scheuer

I like how the name of the main characters of the two shows at the bottom is Bocchi/Boji

Noctis

bocchi the goat, konosuba is great but for a couple who havnt watched alot of isekai a paradoy of an isekai would be a weird start

rileya
>>112726639

I did like the characters in Dress-Up Darling and I remember the show being very pretty, though. Main two were cute.

Carlie & Ange

Guys, we’re seeing a lot of comments of us not being “okay” with fan-service. It’s fine, we’re grown ups and are okay with it lmao 😆 our favourite show was Game of thrones. Im sure thats more full on than any of these 😂

plug-in panda
>>112726928

that’s good to know then. still a weird start since konosuba is a parody of isekai though 😂

Leo Zamudio
>>112726928

Im just tryna use every argument in my favor to get you guys to react to Bocchi lmfaooo

Astrea Stars
>>112726667

Wait fr I completely forgot they skipped kaguya’s OVA. The fan services in dress-up and konosuba are way worse 😂

AP

Konosuba gang assemble 💪

Racc

i don't think that the show that makes fun of the isekai genre should be their first isekai

Bob Bob

If KonoSuba wins. You should maybe start with Megumin Spin off. Then KonoSuba S1 and S3 is coming next year.

Dooly
>>112726704

You’re missing out if you haven’t seen Bocchi. You owe it to yourself to watch it

FTN Chicken
>>112727121

It was my first isekai, and I turned out fine. That being said, this was my argument against One Punch Man, which really kind of works better if you’ve a more classic shonen like My Hero Academia or something

Ecodude
>>112726059

To be fair, despite that you can argue that the fan service in my dress up darling is well done it is kinda wild compared to any other thing they watched and it will make them unconfortable, their exposure to real fan services is kinda lacking lol but maybe it is time for them to fully embrace the anime experience 😂😂

Dooly

Bocchi is a perfect anime.

plug-in panda
>>112727121

yeah it’s not that they wouldn’t enjoy it but it’s much funnier when you understand what it’s making fun of. plus it may give them a different impression of isekai that would affect how they view rezero or others in the future.

Dooly
>>112726639

The manga is awful. The whole romance subplot was pretty much dropped after a certain point so you’re not missing much.

FTN Chicken
>>112726667

To be fair, I feel like the fanservice in the OVA doesn’t match with the rest of the show, whereas in My Dress-Up Darling and KonoSuba its integrated into the story and humor

paladar blade

I would love a reaction to my dress up darling but I love konosuba more.

FTN Chicken

For how often Bocchi is mentioned in the comments of these posts, I’m pretty surprised at KonoSuba’s clear dominance in this first hour of the poll

Ecodude

Maybe you should watch other isekai anime before watching an Isekai Parody like Konosuba to fully enjoy the series and understand a lot of the jokes 😂

nick foon

Let’s go Bocchi! I think you’ll enjoy it more than Konosuba right now, even though that’s also a good watch 🙏

Astrea Stars
>>112726928

There’s also a difference between real adults vs underaged teens in anime being sexualized though.

Astrea Stars
>>112726928

If y’all say so, I guess I’ll have to suggest Highschool DxD or Prison School next time then😂

Adan Aban

Come onnnnn, it’s so hard decision, bocchi is the best anime to music and the fandom proposed it by ange, but KONOSUBA is one of the best isekais. Hard decision 🫠🫠

zzip711

Konosuba might be a bit over y'all's heads to start with (not taking a dig or anything) cuz you haven't watched a lot of isekai. I'm fully on the Bocchi train

MADHOUSE

Agree with the people saying to check out konosuba another time. Will be a great time regardless of if you’ve see other isekai, BUT it’ll be a better experience (funnier with the isekai cliches) if you watch it maybe after watching 1-2 other isekai shows. It’s really not a big deal, but just worth noting. Now, I need to decide between Bocchi and Dress-Up Darling 🤔

정빈 이

Really hope my dress up darling wins! Other shows are also all good, but slightly worried about KonoSuba that they might miss some inside jokes and troops of Isekai.

John Spartan
>>112726667

And I don't think that's a fair argument against the OVA, yeah, the animators decided to turn up to eleven the fanservice for the first skit, but you still get 2/3 of normal and canon skits.

Nethzil

Dang it ! Lots of great Choices, I am in Favor of Bocchi or Konosuba, voted Bocchi for now :)

AsterJ

That has to be the most difficult vote I've ever made, there were 3 god tier options..

NanoPIX

voting for bocchi because ange is a musician, konosuba and dress up are also great, so its win win win for me. Well ideally id like for all 3 to reacted to.

plug-in panda
>>112727895

hold off on konosuba until they’ve seen more isekai it will be funnier for them then.

plug-in panda
>>112727628

if you love konosuba more you should wait until they’ve at least seen an isekai so the jokes about isekais will make sense to them

Ordinary Guy

All of you KonoSuba voters, Bocchi gonna come through so shift your vote to My Dress Up so we can overtake 😂

actuallie

Not another tie!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣It will be a total nightmare!!!

plug-in panda

You would still enjoy konosuba, but you would objectively enjoy it more if you’re more familiar with isekais.

Malik Ford

My dress up darling come on guys don’t let me lose twice

Mten10th

Don't let them keep you from watching Konsuba. It's great. Seems like the people saying that to you are just upset their pick isn't winning.

Noctis

Big yes on update

Fernando

Konosuba is perfectly fine for them. They aren’t stupid. Sure they may miss some trope references and maybe a bit of what makes it satirical but it’s still drop dead hilarious regardless, they’ll love it.

zzip711

Show is still fun, but I think it'd be MUCH better once you have isekai tropes more down, you'll be much more aware of what they're parodying and poking fun at. I think better all around for your reactions and the channel in general. Just my opinion!

stupeyca

My Dress-Up Darling: Annoying fan service. Konosuba: Annoying fan service and trash characters. Bocchi the Rock!: A bit boring, but wholesome and you get to laugh from time to time. Ange would like this one since he's a musician. Ranking of Kings: I haven't watched this one.

TetraLuna

I think Konosuba would be enjoyable to watch either way, but would def just overall hit better knowing some tropes and common things that normally happens in isekais. but like i said, I think it’ll still be a fun watch regardless (coming from someone who voted for bocchi lol)

Dankster
>>112727895

Honestly even if they hold off on watching Konosuba I doubt it'll end up making that much more sense, it mostly makes fun of the tropes you'll see in average copy+paste power fantasy Isekais, while the popular Isekais that will get recommended to react channels like Re:Zero and Slime, don't really follow the tropes all that much or subvert them just like Konosuba does, so even if they wait to get more Isekai "experience", chances are they're not gonna end up watching the type of Isekais that Konosuba is parodying.

MishkaTho

It would be enjoyable but it would be better if you watch some other isekai first ☺️

FTN Chicken
>>112726928

Astrea, There’s also a difference between teaching a kid to swim with floaties and dropkicking them into the deep end of a pool XD

ItsYukiMe

Answering the Edit: Holding off on Konosuba until you guys see more Isekai (like Re:Zero for example, great coincidence) would probably be better.

Silver

I watched Konosuba before knowing it's supposed to be a parody of the same genre and still laughed my ass off.

MrYinYang

With Konosuba, the parody of isekai tropes will be funnier if you have some isekai under your belt. A show like Mushoku Tensei (my personal all-time fave) considered "the godfather of modern-day isekai" can introduce you those tropes with a compelling story. It's like watching the "Scary Movie" parody franchise without watching any of the "Scream" movies

Mten10th

Again: ignore the people telling you not to watch Konosuba. If it wins, you guys will have an amazing time watching it. The people complaining are only doing so because they want you to watch something else, which will be fine if something else wins, but watching Konosuba if it wins will be more than ok for you guys.

정빈 이
>>112728923

Absolutely right. You could enjoy without it and still be hilarious, but definitely will miss some jokes.

plug-in panda
>>112729195

we’ve all said they will still enjoy it. but they don’t know anything about isekai. they would enjoy it way more after watching isekais.

plug-in panda
>>112729085

right and that’s true it is still funny but it’s objectively funnier if you understand isekai

Mirrorline

Nah they're lying. They just want bocchi to win. Konosuba is still a funny adventure anime. You can still watch it and it will be a good introduction to an isekai genre. There's a lot of trash isekai so I'd rather you guys experience isekai from konosuba then the other trash isekai.

FTN Chicken

Answering the edit: If you enjoyed One Punch Man despite being fresh to the classic shonen genre (not counting Dragon Ball) then you’ll enjoy KonoSuba (in fact KonoSuba rarely references other isekai shows, unlike OPM) also being familiar with the fantasy genre like The Witcher is more than enough background you need to enjoy

plug-in panda
>>112728953

@aaron they don’t like underage fan service which is why we didn’t get kaguya OVA. that makes MDUD problematic and megumin problematic as well lol.

Mten10th
>>112728923

Not for you to make that judgment for them. They will be fine watching Konosuba if it wins. Let's not be selfish. @weaponized panda

Leo Zamudio

Yes it would affect your enjoyment, Bocchi should win automatically 😎

Mirrorline
>>112729195

There's so much trash isekai tho. They're arent gonna watch rezero yet and I dont think they're gonna watch mushoku tensei or start a longer isekai like sao. So konosuba is fine to start with.

Degenerick

nah, watch konosuba i think those who dont want it to win are just trying to discourage yal from watching it. if anything its the best show for yal to get introduced to the genre

plug-in panda
>>112729420

how is watching a parody of isekai the best isekai to start with that’s actually insane lol

Dankster
>>112728923

But what tropes are they gonna experience that Konosuba parodies if they watch Re:Zero or Slime first? Cause let's be realistic, those are the only ones that they would realistically end up watching at some point. So they might as well watch Konosuba first.

Mten10th

If Konosuba wins, you're in for an amazing time. Don't be swayed by the people who selfishly want to disregard the results by making claims they can't possibly know.

blargerer

You might miss some jokes but you should mostly understand konsuba fine.

Roboton
>>112728960

That can be mostly remedied with some quick explanations. If they know what mmorpgs are that's already a big help, for example.

Noctislolig

Damn, Ranking of Kings seem to be criminally underrated. I guess it wouldn't really fit as a replacement for Oshi no Ko but neither did Mob for Vinland lol

Mario Piña

I actually think you’ll be fine, not that big of a deal

MADHOUSE

To answer your question: I think if you have some understanding, or familiarity, of JRPG's, Eastern MMO's, or the isekai genre, it really adds to the humor and overall enjoyment of Konosuba. Like One-Punch Man, Konosuba makes fun of specific concepts and cliches within those media, and if you guys are familiar with them, I'm sure it'll make you guys go like, "Oh, I get that joke". Is it a requirement to have prior knowledge of any of the things I listed? No, it isn't. Personally, I would recommend this show after Re:Zero, even though I wouldn't call RZ a typical "isekai" show. It'll help introduce you to the isekai genre and what it entails.

Roboton
>>112729195

The Isekai genre can quite easily be explained to understand where the jokes refer to. It's pretty formulaic. If they have knowledge of rpgs/mmorpgs that's also already a huge help to understand elements of the show.

AsterJ

Basically, all you need to know is that an isekai translates to "another world" in Japanese. It has turned into its own genre over the last few years with literal dozens of "reincarted in another world" titled anime popping up every season. Some of the tropes include: Harems, overpowered protagonist with otherworldly knowledge and savvy, competent party members that keep the mc from dying, etc. Usually in a fantasy setting of some kind. About what you'd expect. That's all you really need to know going into Konosuba. Watching it after Re: Zero would work just as well but it's not required to have Isekai knowledge. It's a blast and funny as hell regardless

plug-in panda

konosuba fans better not mald in the comments when they miss isekai trope references lol

Ordinary Guy

If you enjoyed Kaguya, you will enjoy My Dress Up. So stop the poll and watch My Dress Up Darling at once! 😂

MADHOUSE
>>112729195

I agree with your point about the RPG's and MMORPG's. If they have experience with that, then it should be a chill time. BUT do we even know if they've played any? Maybe they mentioned it in a prior reaction discussion, but I don't recall, besides Ange playing CoD games (I don't even know if I'm correct on that lol). Also, you said the jokes are pretty formulaic, but in their OPM reactions, they definitely missed obvious references. Not to be half-assed with my opinion, but it probably will be fine if they watch it without any prior isekai/RPG knowledge. On the other hand, I think they should watch something that relates to the parody beforehand. I love Konosuba btw, so I really do want them to react to it... but, it just doesn't feel right to have them watch it now, if that makes sense.

AsterJ
>>112729859

We won't, because most of us watched Konosuba with little to no isekai knowledge going in. That just makes the re-watch even better.

Ari

It could be better to watch one first, but I agree that it would still be enjoyable. It more makes fun of rpg and fantasy concepts than isekai shows.

Tempered Glasses

Just remember, this poll is a life or death decision with worldwide consequences.

AsterJ
>>112729859

I am however, changing my vote to Bocchi because it's just as funny at times and Angelo will really appreciate the music aspect

plug-in panda
>>112729893

this man is trolling, if you dislike underage fan service my dress up darling is full of it

FTN Chicken

I appreciate that the comments to these polls always devolve into a sort of low stakes psychological warfare

CornCobBob

They're all pretty good. Either way you're going to have a good time. I'm pretty sure My Dress Up darling, though a fan favorite, is kinda riskay. Still wholesome though.

Ordinary Guy

Ranking of Kings people! If you want to enter the ranks, shift your votes to My Dress Up and we will have a guaranteed win for sure! 😂😂😂

plug-in panda

RoK voters: take your vote out of the void and repurpose it for bocchi ❤️

PackerMan
>>112726928

Isekai is a whole pandora's box of tropes all of which are straight parodied in Konosuba. Some of Konosuba's jokes to land, I feel one needs to be versed in these tropes. I exclusively seek out isekai at times, and I think you should go for a straight laced isekai before jumping into Konosuba. Also, in terms of fan service GoT presents them in a manner that is matter of fact. When it comes to fanservice anime it will do everything from framing to camera angles to artstyle, in order to show you that this is meant to rope in the horndogs. If you want reference compare it to the first third of the Kaguya OVA.

paladar blade
>>112727628

I would have to disagree because yes the show makes jokes about Isekai but they are self explanatory plus the mc explains in the joke what he expects and what's wrong with what's actually happening.

Mango

Bocchi for the win

TheCeoOfAnime

Without knowing the tropes some parts may seem confusing. Konosuba is a parody of the Isekai genre after all. Not sure if it will dimish your enjoyment but you probably won’t get the full funny pardody experience

plug-in panda
>>112730287

wouldn’t guarantee a win, even if you got all 12% (you won’t, some people don’t look again after voting) you would be barely edging out konosuba. the only true guaranteed win is if even half of the RoK votes shift to bocchi.

Dooly
>>112729420

It’s like watching Spaceballs without having seen Star Wars

matthew bremmer

Love konosuba but don't care, Marin supremacy!

paladar blade

I would say it wouldn't for even if you don't immediately get what the joke is alluding to the mc gives context of what the stereotype is suppose to be and how wrong the reality is failing his expectations. If anything I'd say there is more videogame element jokes then Isekai in regards to stats, classes, quests/jobs, and party members. All in all it's a comedy that's not strictly geared towards only people who watch Isekai genre anybody can watch it and get a good laugh out of it. If some jokes go over your head that's ok cause as I mentioned there is a couple of Isekai jokes but they are explained by the mc so you will understand.

PackerMan
>>112729315

Dragonball was enough of a reference for OPM. They just need to watch one straight laced isekai before Konosuba. They won't necessarily dislike it, per se, but we'll be underwhelmed by their reaction.

Degenerick
>>112729420

Because as a parody they know what to expect without seriousness involved. and its fun.

paladar blade

Furthermore i would argue that both konosuba and rezero are both part of the isekai genre but the only difference is that rezero's mc mentions minimum isekai elements in the first episode, while konosuba's mc constantly bring's up isekai elements to explain the jokes throughout the series as needed. So if you do choose either one as your first isekai show it merely depends on whether you choose rezero( a dark anime which at least for me was painful to watch, not because it was bad quite the opposite this is a great show, only because of what the mc of rezero has to go through in that show; think of how dark attack on titan was an you'll be in the ball park in my opinion) or konosuba( a comedy anime that has jokes about isekai/videogames/life, also lots of fan service. like legit this mc does some questionable things where you can't help but be horrified at his behavior and may find it humorous at the same time.) So would you want to watch a tragedy(rezero) or a comedy(konosuba) that's the difference between the two.

Osiac Adrian

Wait. No... How can I choose? I want all of them. xD

Leo Zamudio

Ladies and gentlemen, today I stand before you with a vital message. It's time to break free from the ordinary, the overrated, and the expected. Let us embrace a new era of brilliance and cast our votes for the unsung hero, the undisputed masterpiece: Bocchi The Rock! Join me in making history, for Bocchi The Rock is the anime greatness we truly deserve. Thank you, and may Bocchi reign supreme!

Alex Chen

Can you imagine another tiebreaker? 😂

Christiano

Lol you won't need to use head for these shows they're chill af

Cr33pit

I didn't realize Ranking of Kings was this underrated... Was definitely my favourite anime that season.

Leo Zamudio
>>112731922

I loved ranking of kings but Bocchi all the way, if Bocchi wasn’t on here I would def vote for RoK

Astrea Stars

Just think of it like this. If you watched a parody show or film before the one it's actually parodying, would you still enjoy it? Possibly if you have a great sense of humor and the show doesn't completely rely on using satirical humor and references that relies on you knowing the context about it. Would you enjoy it better if you had seen the parody of it afterward? Most certainly, yes, you would have a more enjoyable watch than if you hadn't as you get more jokes and references. But just because you don't get some jokes don't necessarily mean it's a ruined experience, just a worse experience though. I think that's how Konosuba will be. Y'all might need to warm up to it a bit to the comedy, but I think y'all will eventually get into the rhythm of Konosuba's humor and I'm sure some people will explain some jokes in the comment (though I do cringe when someone has to explain a joke). I can't say how much you'll enjoy Konosuba as comedy is quite subjective, and I can only judge your sense of humor based on your Kaguya-sama's reactions which y'all loved the comedy of it. However, the comedy between the two shows is quite different though. If y'all had seen an isekai or two before, I would've 100% voted for Konosuba without hesitation as I think it's the best show in this poll. Speaking from my experience, after watching many of that generic isekais every season, Konosuba aged quite well when I rewatched it and enjoyed it more the second time around, Don't be worried though, y'all reactions will be fun regardless of whatever wins.

James Usher

Re Konosuba enjoyment - Yes it would imo but comedy is subjective so you might still love it... Konosuba is literally a parody of normal Isekai, most of the comedy derives from knowing what Isekai is usually like. If you still want a top tier comedy though, replace it with Grand Blue Dreaming ;)

Carbon
>>112730643

Same Konosuba is more... funny than heartwarming for me. I also love Bocchi but it's painful sometimes, and then there's Marin who's out there giving everyone a good time.

Addstir

I'm telling you for a FACT: Konosuba works fine. I beg you, ignore these other comments, yes it is partially a parody of other isekai in the sense that it makes fun of them a tiny bit. But the humour works fine on its own as is. All you need to know is that isekai means "other world", and usually a character dies and is reincarnated into another world or is teleported there. Trust I won't spoil you, as a golden jellie too, but to explain a very tiny example, they can gain "levels/experience", Have you ever played a video game? Same thing. You'll be FINE without having seen any isekai, trust me. People are either saying your enjoyment will falter due to not wanting it to win, or they simply are overvaluing the isekai gag. Whatever wins I hope y'all enjoy, but you'll be fine with Konosuba, don't worry.

Kevin T

Yes I don't think Konosuba would be a good watch until you've seen at least 1 or 2 Isekais. It goes from funny to mid/bad very quickly if you don't get the tropes. Bocchi all the way!

Addstir
>>112731610

"The unsung hero" > The highest ranked on the list...? Literally, the highest performing anime rating sites of the bunch, the unsung hero is konosuba of these choices...

Saami

To add to the Konosuba debate. Isekais are nothing more then an anime take on your generic medieval fantasy rpg. If you guys have played or have passing knowledge of any rpg or mmo in this category you are good to go, this is the main point you should consider (some of my friends who aren't into anime enjoyed the konosuba exactly for the "game" aspect with no previous knowledge of anime or isekais). Additionally to the point that "you should experience other Isekai first", Kono mostly parodies your generic mass produced Isekais, which you will probably never get to see on this channel (unless you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel) RE:zero for instance doesn't really examplify your average Isekai. For now I'm casting my vote on Bocchi as a safe choice since I'm curious to watch it as well. I'd be happy for you to watch Kono next or down the line as well, in the end it's your guys' judgement call.

Leo Zamudio
>>112731610

Lmao true I just asked chat gpt to write this, but even tho Bocchi has the highest ratings it’s the least popular out of them all, even raking of kings has 500K + votes on MAL

Addstir
>>112729859

There's literally no way any of you are serious about typing stuff like this... I've seen over 500 anime, a ton of isekai, and the isekai references aren't that big for the show. It's much heavier in gaming references and gag humour? People thinking they're gonna watch it and be confused about everything is just blatantly thinking of them like it's their first game, anime, or anything "nerdy"?

Addstir
>>112732827

Take a read through the comments and reevaluate what you watched, cause either you're spreading misinformation and never saw it, or completely ignored what the show actually does. It's jam-packed with nerd/gamer jokes, not isekai references. And nearly all jokes as part of the gag humour are self-explained anyway. They'll be beyond fine, I'm fine with you not voting for konosuba, but don't spread misinformation.

Addstir
>>112732642

Most of the humour is gamer/anime-focused, not isekai, and nearly all jokes are self-explained. There's close to no isekai parodying that needs other isekai to be viewed first. As others have even said, Re Zero isn't parodied and is likely the only isekai we'll see here for ages anyway.

Carlie & Ange

I feel like we’re in some sort of Isekai because im sure in a previous life THERE WAS A POLL WHERE THE DAMN THING ENDED IN A DRAW…. Please not again

Addstir
>>112732416

I like the ending portion of your comment, but the beginning is mostly wrong. Do I think they'll enjoy it more after watching generic isekai (NOT RE ZERO)? Yes. When will that be? Literal years down the line, probably. That being said, the humour is more gamer-focused than isekai. I've seen it once alone and 2 times with reactors, neither reactor had ever seen isekai, but had played games, and 1 couple DnD, and understood most jokes. Please rethink the whole show and question whether the isekai parody is really the biggest part of it, or if it's more gamer-knowledge-heavy.

Kevin T
>>112732827

Yeah, no. Its premise and the majority of jokes are based off of other generic isekais, which do draw from games/etc., but what makes them funny is the expectation from other isekais not the gaming elements themselves. Obviously it's not difficult to understand if you're watching it without viewing other isekai, but it's definitely less funny since that's the main gag.

Addstir
>>112733065

I'll watch anything regardless, love you both (not a fan of Bocchi but it's still something to watch dinner with I guess lol). But I don't envy another damn tie where the results are announced via "this many people different"

David Jonsson

Some of the humour in Konosuba is subverting expectations of the isekai genre. In that sense, yes it may diminish your enjoyment.I think a lot of the situations themselves will be funny in their own right but there would be an extra layer of why it was funny if you're more familiar with tropes.

>>112732416

Addstir, yes RP video game-like mechanics with leveling and skills system is one common trope of what makes a generic isekai generic. However, it is a bit absurd to say that Konosuba and other generic isekais are primarily gamer-focused. Here's a list of generic isekai tropes: stupidly long title, MC is a NEET high school gamer getting isekai'd by truck-kun, a harem where every girl with different trope archetypes (tsundere, kuudere, dandere, etc) crushes on the MC but MC is too dense and doesn't realize, slavery is always okay, rescuing a slave girl that ends up in the harem, TONS of fan service, a European medieval fantasy world, unfleshed world-building (literally the same-looking generic town every time), some powerful demon lord MC needs to defeat, having OP powers and ultra-rare skills right off the bat, incompetent leaders, and the list goes on and on. Most of these tropes Konosuba parodies so saying Konosuba is more-gamer focused than isekai is entirely false lol.

I can’t believe ranking of kings is losing

Stef

Bocchi is short and sweet, also about music, best fit!

Matvii

Konosuba is funny as hell, but I definitely would still go for bocchi

Robin Gonzalez

The humour in Konosuba is definitely more oriented towards people experienced with the genre and its tropes (and otaku humour in general) since the series is basically a parody of the genre. You simply will not enjoy it as much as you could, which isn't fair to you or to Konosuba. There's 30+ episodes and a movie of content currently, which is a lot to get through and not appreciate fully. Bocchi's humour is much more relatable and down-to-earth. You'd absolutely appreciate it more than Konosuba. Given the music themes, the anime would fit Ange like a glove. Not to mention the fact that it's one of the best slice of life anime ever made and oozes quality throughout. It is quite literally a must watch for any anime enthusiast if you ask me.

Talon

Konosuba is entirely relatable to anyone and pretty much the funniest anime ever made. I personally feel that the Bocchi fans are just trying to force the issue because they started out losing and are trying to sabotage Konosuba. Bocchi is incredibly short compared to Konosuba, and they could nearly watch it in one sitting.

Thilde

Both Konosuba and My Dress-Up Darling would make for awkward reactions imo.. I'm not a huge fan of the other 2 (Ranking of Kings was great tho) but I'd personally much prefer those

FF at 15

I watched Konosuba as my first isekai. While I did enjoy the show, I do wish, now that I've watched a lot more anime, that I waited till after I've seen some others to get more used to the genre as I'm sure I would've appreciated it a lot more.

Zana

BOCCHI THE ROCK IS AMAZING

le

Ranking of the kings please 🙏 my dress up darling was kinda uncomfortable to watch at times with the insane amount of fan service of underage kids…idk if that’s a good image for their channel either and I personally haven’t seen the other two so I can’t comment but I know ranking of the kings is good and insanely wholesome

SolarOnion

Definitely don’t get what people are saying about Konosuba needing more knowledge to enjoy. Its a funny show in its own right and doesn’t take an expert to enjoy

TomNook

Ranking of kings is not really light hearted and as great as konosuba is it’s better if you experience some other isekais

Robin Gonzalez
>>112736012

I really have to disagree, it is not relatable to everyone. Many of the jokes and gags are underappreciated if not completely missed if you are not into otaku culture.

Robin Gonzalez
>>112736608

Not necessary to enjoy it, anyone can enjoy Konosuba, you just won't enjoy it as much as you could.

le
>>112736171

Insanely awkward… the fan service is just…

Nkls

More people need to give Ranking of Kings a chance. Its such a beautiful show with a lot of heart. Also Vaundys song for the 2nd op is just perfect.

ThaDoubleB

I personally think Konosuba heavily relies on knowing the tropes of the genre. Without that knowledge it really won’t be that enjoyable, there is ONLY comedy, the story and stuff is pretty nonsensical.

Talon
>>112736012

It's not really even that otaku though. The isekai only really matters during the first episode since Konosuba's world is more video game like than anything. I think people are under estimating their ability to pick things up, but whatever.

Carlie & Ange
>>112733065

We’re not going to do that every time. It was just that the battle between re:zero and mob was so crazy and last for ages. This poll wont go for as long. But these options can still show up in the future!

please konosuba 🥺 or there will be no shows for me to watch your reactions 🙃 re;zero and konosuba are the only ones i have seen.. and mob but its not that good for reactions. i guess i have to do like 30 accounts here and vote for konosuba 😂

ThaDoubleB
>>112736012

It really isn’t THAT funny outside of the parody element. People heavily into the culture seem to love it, but outside of that, I’ve rarely see anyone enjoy it. Plus it is laden with fanservice.

Mango

Leave konosuba for later and watch Bocchi now :,)

Aiyuu

Konosuba is a very light hearted anime but it will be an insanely uncomfortable fro those two to watch due to the enormous amount of fanservice scenes. My dress up darling is wholesome but has a lot of fanservice too. Ranking of kings or bocchi the rock would be the most suitable.

JustGab

Let Bocchi the goat win

Matthias

man first code geass and now ousama rankings seriously ? anyone here actually care about good anime ? i mean konosuba is funny and i heard great things about how bocchi the rock is relatable and all but damn ousama ranking is top A tier anime with such a great story, beautifully developped characters and such a unique artistic direction.

Tomy

for people saying that they wouldnt enjoy konosuba or understand it.. maybe let them decide. Also there is not that much to understand when it comes to isekai. chill people 😅

chu chulain

how can the most light hearted anime re zero not in the poll?

SolarOnion
>>112736608

Can you give me an example of what you mean? I’ve seen a lot of folks saying this, but they’re not elaborating. It just sounds elitist to say folks won’t get maximum enjoyment out of a show because they don’t have enough background in the genre. I don’t see where that’s the case in Konosuba

Disantos

Konosuba is sooo funny. I'am 100% you would greatly enjoy it.

Disantos
>>112737767

Ah.. I voted for Konosuba but you are right. Ousama ranking was one of the best animes i watched in recent years. But for their format of reacting i would enjoy konosuba more. Still everyone should watch ousama ranking at some point.

Matthias

wouldn't it be really funny if the poll was another tie

William Wellman

It's weird. Konosuba takes the Isekai tropes and cranks it up to 11, so I can see why some people feel the need to know the tropes.. but I also don't like that people recommend they watch a dumpster fire in order to appreciate a bonfire.

CK C

Man... bocchi and Konosuba are good, tough choice ngl I think I have to go with bocchi cuz I like the songs, But I think Konosuba have better story plot

Lightweiss

TBH, i can't wait ange put on his guitar and cover the OP song from Bocchi.

Matthias

I watched bocchi since it's all hyped up. It's definetly good and a great piece to react to especially for ange. It has quite a down to earth comedy, the characters are quite likable and the music is good. In terms of visual it's normal it's what you expect from a slice of lice. So it's a really good normal anime. But please people do yourself a favor and go watch ousama ranking because it is so much more. where bocchi is a really good normal anime ranking of kings is a great unique anime it's not the kind of anime that you'll see every season where as bocchi even if it's clear that it is one of the heavy hitter of slice of life there was, is and will be a lot of similar shows. Finaly i'm quite partial to konosuba because every seasons for like 5 years now you always get some trashy run of the mill low effort isekai anime i mean it's insane how much they're milking the genre and seeing a show that actually poke fun at all of those anime feels good.

ThaDoubleB
>>112737767

Ranking of Kings’ story is okay. The animation is top tier, and the main duo are awesome. But the ending is pretty bad, and the 2nd half of the season is not nearly as good as the 1st half in general. It is definitely worth a watch, but really outside of the animation it isn’t THAT special. Code Geass is at least a classic.

MOB12

Ranking of Kings is easily the best show out of the options

BBT

Konosuba is not a big problem to understand. Having the knowledge about the Isekai genre only improves it, but it's not essential. The big problem with it is the amount of fan service. It's really a lot and done without shame. It fits the tone of the anime well, don't get me wrong. But fitting or not, you will be blasted with ass and boobs close ups at all times.

Merfhew

I've only watched one of these choices, Ranking of Kings, and while I'd love to see your reaction, I'd hate to put you in the same place I am: impatiently waiting for more episodes. It's gonna be a *long* wait before we see a potential S2. There was a Season 1.5 this year, which was nice, and they've announced that a movie is on the way, but the manga needs more time before the anime can adapt a S2. That's not to say you wouldn't enjoy it, but you'll have to be okay with cliffhangers. The questions we're left with, when compared to other shows, aren't HUGE... but having to wait on a show you really like, knowing it'll be a while for answers, can be hard at times. If you can dangle from a cliff for 2 or 3 years after the finale, then maybe it's not a big deal... but I'm struggling. lmao

StarlingOnCrack

Looks like Bocchi the Glock is winning this one

i guess it's coll that it is Bocchi becasue it's only twelve episode so in about one and a half month it'll be done and then we can all suggest shigatsu wa kimi no uso.

I'm divided about Konosuba, I don't think you'll not like because of the isekai tropes but the humor in itself, you might not understand/like it as you did watching Steins;Gate.

Leo Zamudio
>>112739680

Idk man, Bocchi goes above and beyond from a "normal" anime from a visual standpoint, they get so creative with the visual humor and the art is really really good

Anonymous

Konosuba is definitely geared more towards the otaku type, I don't think the jokes will go over your head I just can't image you getting much out of them besides an awkward giggle here and there. Honestly any of the other options would be better.

Galado Isma

Love konosuba so much but I'm voting for bocchi ^^

Matthias
>>112739680

well not really, most of this visual humor style already been done, i mean top of my head i can say school rumble, gintama, Asobi Asobase, strongest disciple kenichi, danshi kokosei no nichijou as well as great teacher onizuka or baka to test to shinkanjou. It's really a japanese humor style that existed for a long time, but on shows that are a little bit older most of the times. So i guess a lot of people are seing it for the first time in more recent anime like bocchi. As for the art, well if you look at everything done in 2022 Bocchi don't really feel like it's above the rest, i'm not saying it's bad i'm just saying it is not really memorable for the quality of the visuals they do the work but that's it. I would even say that the short 3D animation moment are quite plain and you can see the studio have trouble understanding tehir own soft but that is true about a lot of 2D studio in japan, wich is a hame when you se what square enix is capable of in the gaming industry.

Noel Chao

It's a shame more people overlooked Ranking of Kings when it came out, it had won Crunchyroll's award for "Best Boy" during it's release. Also the way the plot is given, it gives plenty of conversation time for theories. 100% voting for Ranking of Kings.

Taekom

Ranking of Kings, all the way.

Konosuba is a parody of a isekai, imagine watching a parody of a genre without watching anything from that genre before.

Ecodude
>>112741653

Right? I understand that they are adults and can handle nudity or sex topics etc but here we are talking about anime fan service 😂 there are a lot of weird camera angles and close ups, weird noises or situations, exaggerated jiggle physics with over the top animation just for panty shots or anime being anime regarding mother figures, sisters or brothers lmao its fine if you are use to it to some degree but MDUP and Konosuba are kinda wild if you are not 😂

Samir Larras
>>112741653

I honestly wouldn't even say it "fits the tone". It's just way too much and feels completely unecessary half the time.

Unholy

KonoSuba is in my top 10 just cause of how funny it is but I actually want to see Bocchi more so that works lol

Ordinary Guy

Told you, KonoSuba voters. We should unite and shift your votes to My Dress Up Darling. It's the only way for us to win this fight! 😂

Sydonis

I think there is humor in Konosuba that works regardless of experience with Isekai and it does have a lovable cast of characters, but at the end of the day, it is a parody of a genre you have no experience with. The problem with getting the experience with Isekai is where to get them. There is Mushoku Tensei, excellent show, but with some risque scenes that I feel would be crossing the line for you. There is Re:Zero, which in itself is a subversion of the genre norms and the rest of it is kinda just generic power fantasy garbage, that would make 14yo delusions of grandeur seem like a well thought out and nuanced story. I guess Slime or Tanya are somewhat decent, while upholding most of the tropes.

Eric Chandler

Isekai is just a mild but still horney harem that usually takes place in some sort of fantasy setting

BBT
>>112755259

and the protagonist is usually a shut-in otaku that have a faithful encounter with Truck-Kun and end up reincarnating in this new world full of adventures where he somehow have some unique new power/item/something that makes him the biggest hope of defeating the evil thing that is threatening this new world

Merfhew

I've only watched one of the poll choices (Ranking of Kings), so I voted for what I'm familiar with. Based on the comments I'm seeing, it sounds like you'll be in for a treat no matter what show wins (which is good, cause I don't think my choice will win, lol). If you see this and feel up to reading my novel of a comment, I'd like to ask for clarification on something. You mention wanting to balance the channel by adding a lighthearted anime. This has me a bit confused, because I think most of the shows in your upcoming lineup lean closer to "lighthearted" than the opposite (in my opinion, at least). When I say "most" of the shows lean towards lighthearted, it's because Violet Evergarden and Extraordinary Attorney Woo are shows I'm unfamiliar with. Maybe they're dark and depressing? Maybe we have different definitions of lighthearted (are you looking for shows with less violence, perhaps)? Or maybe I misunderstood your comment, which is entirely possible. At the end of the day, this is your channel. Please know that I'm not asking you to change anything, nor am I trying to pick a fight. I just hope to better understand your point of view. If you want more light hearted shows, that's your call to make, and I respect you for making it. I think you guys are great, I love your content, and I plan to follow the channel for a long time. Oh, and as a big Re:Zero fan, I'm excited to know that on your radar for the future. :)

Trevor J Lynn

If you are looking for lighthearted, I don't know if Ranking of Kings is the best pick. While the main character is wholesome, there are definitely some darker themes going on (great show regardless).

Merfhew

It looks like Konosuba is getting a S3 next year as well. There have been a lot of sequels, remakes, and returning shows lately.

Steve.

You really don’t need to have watched isekai to get Konosuba, that’s just snobbery. Sure it pokes fun at some of those tropes but it is not strictly necessary. Konosuba was one of the first anime I watched and not having seen another isekai did nothing to diminish my enjoyment, it’s funny on its own And to be honest, most of the isekai out there (like 99%) is garbage that you wouldn’t enjoy anyway, that’s why Konosuba exists to make fun of it. So what people are really asking is for you to watch something really terrible just to be able to get another show that makes some jokes about the genre, even though that is far from the show’s entire identity

this is one long ass username

Bro I’m going to lose it if we’re seriously going to have them react to Bocchi the rock……

Jonas

I think you will enjoy Konosuba too, some references might be missed but not as much as you had with Steins;gate lol Stillas much I love Konosuba I would love you to react more to Boochi the rock or My Dress-up Darling, they are sweet fun wholesome and funny shows

Jesse Fraser

Kononsuba specifically makes fun of the (hit by truck), get reincarnated in a different world, receive op powers from a goddess, have to defeat the demon lord and his generals. Many include a haram trope. The worst are basically male-self insert fantasies.

Cheyenne R Spina

Horimiya would have been a great addition or Furuba 2019

Aizensalami

schmitty
>>112765926

I voted for it too for the same reason, and I'll admit the thought of watching C&A watch the second episode especially makes me VERY uncomfy, but I don't think the fan service in that show is as egregious as other shows in that it's not for no reason (spoilers ahead). it serves to illustrate gojo's perspective and discomfort and sometimes acts as a means to advance marin and gojo's relationship, as opposed to something like fire force where it's literally just "this character's entire personality and contribution to the show is that she's always naked"

Santiago

If we're going by the original post about a light hearted anime, not having watching Isekai aside, Konosuba leans a lot more heavily on the comedy. If we're talking light hearted then Bocchi or dress up darling would be more in line with that genre. Wether people like it or not dress up darling has a ton of fan service and some people just don't enjoy that. I don't have a horse in this race (I don't like any of these shows) but Bocchi fits the light hearted request the most imo.

>>112755259

tbh the only isakai I really enjoyed was Tensei Shitara, although I didn't watch Konosuba or a lot of others, because the action and humor and the fact that it doesn't take itself very serious. The MC more or less has a harem in that one too tbf but the focus is not on that and Rimuru is a very a cunning and proactive MC that doesn't just get dragged into everything. not like it's a 10/10 but it's entertaining

KaijinGarou
>>112746478

I don't know. It definitely has an unusual MC and I like the contrast between the childish, fable-like animation and how violent it actually is. But other than that it didn't manage to keep my interest for too long and ended up dropping it.

BBT
>>112755259

What I described is basically the "base isekai". But with that base in mind, many good ones are build while subverting some of the points and doing something original. There is a reason for so many shows with this formula. It works. Not always, but it works often enough

StarlingOnCrack

The thing is, Konosuba mostly parodies the typical dollar store isekai, which you guys are unlikely to react to. You can sum up most of them and the tropes Konosuba parodies in a paragraph or less. Bocchi seems to be winning though and you guys will definitely enjoy that.

andrebadass

Merfhew
>>112814552

You aren't necessarily wrong, but is it really worth complaining about? Last-minute vote changes aren't unprecedented, btw, so I'm not convinced that everyone knows what they want. We saw this during the previous poll (granted, the Top 2 choices were neck and neck). Asking others to vote a certain way is not likely to change minds, but if people are respectful about it, I don't see the issue.

Michalovesanime
>>112765926

Everyone has a different tolerance to sexualization of minors, even in anime, to call it Amish is obviously unnecessary and unnuanced. .. I watched it but I def had moments where I was reminded of the amount of fan service that isn't necessary for the story. He isn't sexualized at all, it's just the girls which says something. Its a show about teen love and infatuation so a little bit is necessary ( that we may not explicitly have to see, things can be implied but this show chooses not to do that) but it definitely went over the "a little bit" scale. I say this while liking the show.

KaijinGarou
>>112814552

The thing is most people aren't respectful and just ask to vote for their show when everyone is paying a subscription here is pretty disrespectful IMO to begin with. I mean, saying that X show is obviously not gonna make it an ask for a vote replacement is OK but saying that it's not gonna make it and ask specifically for your own is quite disrespectful. Not to mention of course those who directly urge you to that because the one you voted for is shit or whatever... Not only disrespectful but sad too. Use your vote and let others use theirs...
